I saw it back in March here in Canada and I got to be honest, I loved it. It's an almost unbearably intense film that puts you through the wringer and expects to come out alive.

I am shocked that this is any good, considering it's a Sky production, and may well be checking it out.

Why do we see the video of Mark and Simon in the studio some weeks, but just a still from the film with the voices played in the background in other weeks?

This is one of the most upsetting films I have ever seen, upsetting because it is based on real events. I can not say it is an enjoyable film, what kind of person will enjoy such a film that is based on events that actually took place? It is however a story that needs to be told, and a film that honours the bravery and sacrifice of the victims and those that escaped. Like Dr K, I felt incredibly uncomfortable for most of the film. I doubt I'll ever watch this film again, it is just too emotional a watch, but I'm glad I saw it. Very well directed and scripted, but one misstep for me was Dev Patel and his shoes. Maybe that actually happened, but including it immediately brought Bruce Willis and Die Hard to mind, I don't think we needed to go there...

Just watched it and it was a riveting watch ,the cold hearted way the terrorist dealt out death was shocking and a world away from the Hollywood Die Hard type movie . Dev deserves an Oscar as he played the part in a human way with fear and honour.

Opposite reaction from me, I saw Dev Patel and hotel and thought it was a 3rd Marigold hotel sequel.

If you saw it on a small screen but you’re curious to see what it’ll look like on a big screen, maybe this will help:
It’ll be pretty much the exact same... only bigger.

Slightly too gratuitous, a good film and very engaging as a thriller. But considering the facts it’s following true events, I feel it might be too glorified as a piece of cinema. It is a true story but if you’re going to make that kind of movie, it feels at times like it’s a real life version of Die Hard. Focus more on the real drama than the horrible and disturbing horror of the events.

    • @NickHunter

Well to ignore the horror is to ignore the atrocity. While the film might shine a light on the horror committed by the antagonists the real spotlight is on the bystanders in the face of adversity, no?

Hard to reconcile the review with what I saw. I thought it was a terrible film. I fear their love for Jason is getting in the way.

I wondered if that might be the case, but I'll see it anyway and judge for myself.

Is that not why art is pretty subjective across the board? The reviews in the main have been pretty positive. Is it that alien that he has a different opinion on a movie to your own?
