- A nice walk on downtown San Jose, Costa Rica on a nice Saturday morning and afternoon. I stayed at Holiday Inn downtown Aurola. Walked from Calle5 to Avenida Central. Visited the metropolitan Cathedral on way. Also the Central Market and National Theater for Performing Arts in separate videos.It was a beautiful walk with all the interesting stores, food, cafes, street musicians and the very friendly people. Would like to return soon.

@Rick San José tiene partes muy lindas y partes feas como cualquier ciudad del mundo, el dinero se gasta en educación por eso tenemos la mejor universidad de centro america, tenemos un porcentaje de alfabetización la cual es la mejor de C.A, lo mejor de todo no tenemos ejército y tenemos naturaleza, parque nacionales y lugares preciosos en todo el país.
El dinero que no se gasta en ejercito lo invertimos en educación y en proteger la flora y fauna
@Rick Jamás nos podemos comparar en esperanza de vida de la mayoría de países de Europa ni al más grande que está en Asia como Japón sin embargo tenemos la mejor de América Latina, no tenemos un 100% en alfabetización pero si estamos cerca con un 97%, Costa Rica tiene muy buenos médicos muchos extranjeros vienen a hacerse procedimientos de calidad y el médico de Costa Rica la mayoría trabaja dentro del país ya que no se ven en la necesidad de salir pero tenemos mucho profesionales en EE.UU haciendo bien su trabajo, crees que no tenemos profesionales en el extranjero? Busca a Franklin Chang y Adolfo Chaves que este último se está hablando de el últimamente.

I lived in San Jose for about 6 months in 2004-2005. I walked along Avenida Central many times, and recognize so many places in this video. Although some things have changed, this is the San Jose I knew.

@@FunintheSunFloridian claro amigo, te recomiendo medellín y bogotá, pero además te recomiendo ir al eje cafetero, sus paisajes son sorprendentes, con sus pueblos de salento y filandia en el quindío que son pueblos cafeteros por excelencia. te recomiendo tambien el pueblo de guatapé y la piedra del peñol que queda cerca de medellín, te recomiendo santa marta en especial el parque tayrona. cartagena de indias tambien es hermoso pero ahi si tienes que andar con precaución, ya que los vendedores ambulantes acosan mucho para que les compres y si eres muy ingenuo te pueden cobrar de mas por algo, asi que ten cuidado en ese detalle si vienes a cartagena de indias, pero te la pasas genial, espero haberte ayudado, saludos.

Gotta see it now, after the quarantine! What a shame!! So many stores closed. I love this walk and did it every Saturday morning and Sunday. On Sunday there used to be a lot of music going on but the Muni shut that down. Still wonderful. 20 years in Costa Rica and it still has it's charm. The Post Office is a sight to be seen and inside they have exhibits of old CR stamps
Haven't been there after the Quarantine. Covid-19 changed all my plans. I loved to walk there over weekends too and listen to the music especially the Maramba players. I have a full video of them on my channel. Can't wait to go there again.

Interesting seeing what downtown San Jose is like. Seems like a very metropolitan city with a lot of nice architecture.
We've been waiting for the land border between Nicaragua and Costa Rica to open up so we can visit Costa Rica as that was the next country we were planning to visit before the pandemic hit. Hopefully we can see it for ourselves sometime soon!
Yes, it is a very interesting place and a lot of things going on like street musicians, jugglers, all sorts of things. On the weekends it seems like everyone is out there. Very nice architecture, especially the National Theater., I was planning to go there several times this year but the pandemic hit. Hoping to go there soon when things become a little more normal.

Bonita ciudad, no tiene rascacielos como Ciudad de Panamá ni es tan grande como Ciudad de Guatemala, pero es la ciudad con el más alto nivel de vida de toda Centroamérica.

In San Jose , Costa Rica to do more videos, but got robbed in daylight. Someone snatched my gold necklace just a block from the Holiday Inn downtown. I reported to the police and hope they can find the robber and get the necklace back. There were cameras nearby. Thanks to the bystander who called the police and waited till they came. The police came very promptly and the policewoman was very nice and helpful. She even dropped me back at the hotel. For now, going to hold off on taking my expensive cameras out on the street. My fault also in wearing an expensive gold chain but did not expect it in the daytime. I am sure I will get over this and start doing more videos in San Jose and Costa Rica.
En San José, Costa Rica, para hacer más videos, pero me robaron a la luz del día. Alguien me arrebató el collar de oro a solo una cuadra del centro de Holiday Inn. Informé a la policía y espero que puedan encontrar al ladrón y recuperar el collar. Había cámaras cerca. Gracias al espectador que llamó a la policía y esperó hasta que llegaron. La policía llegó muy rápido y la mujer policía fue muy amable y servicial. Incluso me dejó en el hotel. Por ahora, voy a esperar a sacar mis costosas cámaras a la calle. Mi culpa también es usar una cadena de oro costosa, pero no lo esperaba durante el día. Estoy seguro de que lo superaré y comenzaré a hacer más videos en San José y Costa Rica.
Recuerdo cuando iba al centro de San Jose no me ponia ni aretes por miedo a que me robaran y salir lastimada. Triste experiencia tuvo lo lamento mucho. Ya no voy al centro por lo mismo es muy peligroso a mi parecer tengo meses de no caminar por ahi.
@@nataliamiranda677 Gracias por los comentarios. Fue mi culpa por usar un collar caro, pero no pensé que sucedería a la luz del día cerca de un lugar turístico. Había 3 cámaras pero no ayudaron a la policía a atrapar a los ladrones.
Si sucede a menudo, robos en esas mismas calles que se muestran en el vídeo, y asesinatos y violación de mujeres por la zona de las playas, así que quien venga de turista debe ser muy cuidadoso en todo sentido eso de que CR , es un país seguro es cosa del pasado.

I work for Ed Murdock Superstores and you can see the videos on their channel. What country do you think is safest? Nicaragua, Costa Rica or Panama? A lot of people like them all, but I was wondering which one has the least crime probably.
I would say Costa Rica is quite safe. I have been there at least 20 times in the last 3 years and never had any problems. Of course you have to be careful and use common sense like not going to some areas at night like the parks, downtown etc and not flash Jewelry . From what I heard pickpockets are common in crowded areas so I would keep you phone safe and your wallet in the front pocket. When I did this video in downtown San Jose the hotel staff warned me about someone snatching my camera. I was very careful walking around with my expensive camera and holding it pretty tight. I would avoid Nicaragua, the political situation not good there. Panama is not very safe either. I have been doing some research about going there for a video shooting, but so far what I read is not good. Another country to consider is the Dominican Republic which is relatively safe. I have been there before and had no problems. I thought of Colombia but a friend who has relatives there told me not safe right now as three of his in-laws were recently assaulted in Medellin and robbed and they live in a very nice area.

Costa Rica by Miles, I'm from Scotland and lived for a while in Costa Rica with no problems. Nicaragua is a much different experience but I still like it there. Much cheaper in Nicaragua too.

Did they finally put street names and numbers on the streets or is it still from the juanitas restaurant in curridabat 220 mts east 100 mts such and such?
I think they did as I was able to find my way back to the Holiday Inn downtown after I did the video shooting looking at the street names. I am not sure if all of downtown had street names. I am planning to go there again next month and will look closer.
It’s still like that. And it’s most likely to stay like that because it’s part of our identity. Streets and avenues do have names but most people don’t use them and if you do probably elders will be the ones who will understand you.

Sorry, I don’t know San José too much. I’m from Heredia and it’s really pretty. Downtown is small, though. You could go to El Fortín and go up (entrance is in Palacio Municipal) and have a nice view, then there’s Correos, Casa de la Cultura which has some history, Centro Cultural Herediano is really pretty too. And there’s much more really close. Also the bus service from San José to Heredia is good and not really expensive. About a dollar the ride. Also we just had a new mall a few months ago is called Oxígeno if you want to visit (it also has a nice view if you go to the top)

@@olegkalashnikoff2179 The problem is poverty in the country. Mostly everyone is poor and some people resort to crime to get some money. The majority of Costa Ricans are very nice and very honest people and very helpful. The police does not have enough resources to control all the crime in the country.

Soy tico, amo mi país y mi gente, pero odio y detesto San José. Es una ciudad desordenada, fea, ruidosa, contaminación visual, vendedores ambulantes, no tiene un estilo arquitectónico definido, etc. Si tuviera una ojiva nuclear, mi primer objetivo sería San José.
Deja mucho que desear como capital de un país.... No hay coherencia en las construcciones, calles muy maltratadas, no hay rascacielos ni estructuras coloniales que impresionen... Aparte de montones de basura y la vialidad pésima. Lo siento, pero les faltan décadas para poderse comparar con una capital verdadera, como CDMX....
Esa parte es fea...... Hay mejores lugares en SJ

It hasnt changed. I visited Costa Rica due to the massive advertising. Total disappointment. Lack of identity, so simple so very boring. Even visiting beaches nothing extraordinary not a plus in most resorts. Lack of attention to tourists, rice beans and bananas was all i saw.
After visiting hotels in Mexico, beaches, colonial cities, Costa Rica seemed so very far away to be called a must place to visit.

idk what you expect out of a beach.... do you wanted to sea a pirate ship fighting a kraken or what? if you ate rice and beans and bananas, thats totally your fault, and if you think thats lack of tourist attention, then you should head to any developed country, people usually don't like tourist at all.

Costa Rica is OVERRATED. Its not what you see in lots of advertising everywhere. Im sorry if you dont agree with my feedback about this country. This is my own experience as well as many other Mexicans who were there
Being used to outstanding and top quality customer service in most hotels and restaurants not to mention the world known extensive cuisine, Costa Rica seemed a total dissapointment. Nothing extraordinary going on there. Comparisons are not nice and fair especially if you compare a Central American tiny country such as Costa Rica with a world destination country such as Mexico.
Even the national airline Lacsa when it still flew. Mexicana when used to fly there had better newer jets with friendly and gorgeous flight attendants. I used to underestimate my country but after spending lots of dollars in that central American country, I started to believe Mexico is sure a monster when it comes to being a top level world destination.
