    Hi Shawn... Let me tell ya... you and Robert Rob are the only vloggers that really make riding your 883 a true adventure. Makes me feel like goin' out and gettin' one. I could listen to both of you guys all day. A real pleasure riding with ya out in the country "smellin'" that cedar and all. Feel like i'm right there with ya. Safe ridin'

    Can't stop drooling ! I'm 22 sure as hell far from having the cash to buy an iron , damn...must be a rly cool feeling to ride one.

    • @ShawnSmoak
      @ShawnSmoak  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh man, I know the feeling well! It seems as though I was that age yesterday...
      I can tell you this, it does get way better if you have dreams to do so! And, if you want something bad enough, and you let the thought of it tickle the back of your mind at all times, it will come to be way sooner than you can imagine! The pieces have a way of all coming together... Next thing you know, you're off dreaming about the next thing. I hate using this term, as I think it sounds like corporate cliché BS, but it's all about setting goals!
      Thanks for watching and keep the dreams alive! They do come true...

    Another good video, love it watching your travels while the wife is watching her TV, the roads in the states look much better than here in the UK. My son in law picks his new Iron 883 up tomorrow, looks like a good machine for cruising around.

    I am watching all your vids and enjoy them a lot. I like the way you talk and drive at the same time, makes the videos a lot more interesting. Living in Sweden, I am having a winter break as well and it is tough to not drive for 4 month.

    Found you off to the side in recommended vids. Subbed, you seem like a pretty cool guy. I know the feeling about storage was well. North eastern US right here, we get those 6 month winters too. Then 2 months of solid rain then it's too stinking hot and humid to do anything before it dips below freezing again.

    • @ShawnSmoak
      @ShawnSmoak  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      These long winters are almost more than one can take, but they make for the most incredible summers that it almost seems worth it... Thanks for the kind words astaschak!

    Been following your suspension upgrade videos for a while now. I only got 2 decent riding days in for January. Next warm day will be in February. So far haven't missed a month without taking at least a couple days to ride... oh, I'm all the way up in Massachusetts, so you know it's been cold! Riding a 2014 Iron, only real mods were drilling out the exhaust, and installing passenger pegs and a 2up seat. Love the videos and enjoy the ramblings, so keep it up, :)

      Thanks Alex! I'm one state up in Washington, but it looks the same in both states...
      My mom is Irish and I grew up knowing it at Autumn, and it is quite stunning here. However it's short lived because around the peak of beauty, rain and wind storms come through and wipe it all out each year.
      Thanks for watching and commenting Alex!

    I like that you have a multitude of bikes. I have been going back and forth on what bike to get when I finally buy one. I really like the Iron, but I'm afraid at 6'3" 220, the 883 won't be able to push me along at hwy speeds. How does yours do? (Also, I'm not a speed demon, especially on 2 wheels)

    • @ShawnSmoak
      @ShawnSmoak  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm the same weight and have no issues what so ever. Even went on a group ride with the Harley dealer and there were a ton V-Rods and I had no problems... Make sure you test ride one, as they may feel a little cramped at 6'3". Forward controls can easily fix that though...

    hey shawn! was wondering what is your average mpg for the 883. also what type of motor oil & filter do you personally use.

    • @ShawnSmoak
      @ShawnSmoak  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      My average over the past 10 months has been 49.73 mpg, to be exact... I use only OEM Harley filters with Motorex 4T 10w50 full synthetic motor oil and Royal Purple 75/90 gear oil in the trans/primary.
      Thanks for watching Jacob!

      It's completely stock other than a SE Stage-1 Flash and 1/2" holes in the muffler restrictor plates. Oh, and some suspension mods... 13" shocks and fork spring kit.

    I really need to stop watching your videos, Mr. Smoak. I keep getting the urge to ride again, specifically on a Sportster ;-)
    Yes, I agree with you. There's nothing like the smell of a wood fire on a cold day.
    Is it me or does the GoPro shoot better in darker condition than on sunny days? I was watching another video of yours, during last summer, and the picture quality seems better on this one. Whatever the case may be, please keep the vids coming. I enjoy'em :-)

    Hey Shawn Smoak , I've watched a bunch of your Iron 883 videos and just wanted to say thanks.. I've had my eye on it for a few months as my first bike and your videos have been helpful.
    Slightly unrelated but I wanted to ask you. I've heard the Iron has a lot of vibration issues, especially at higher speeds, is this something you would consider a serious issue or is it something you've even noticed?
    Also, I've heard of people scraping pegs going around corners, is this something you've found to be a serious issue?

    • @ShawnSmoak
      @ShawnSmoak  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the kind words Craig! For about the first 500 miles of break-in, the pegs seemed to be a bit buzzier than I've felt on my other Sportsters. But it just simply went away. Must have just been a breaking in thing... I ride 70~80 mph down the freeway quite comfortably. You feel the bike, you know it's alive, but nothing annoying or numbing at all.
      In stock form, the pegs did touch a bit early for my riding style, but I weigh 220lbs and ride somewhat aggressively... Switching from 11" to 13" rear shocks and installing a fork spring kit that allowed me to correctly adjust fork sag for my weight was a 110% improvement. I can rail this thing! I touch down no more than a standard sport (not supersport) bike does now. Kind of keeps me in check, if you know what I mean...
      I really appreciate you watching the videos and taking the time to comment!

    • @craigmormino
      @craigmormino 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shawn Smoak Thanks for the reply Shawn! I really appreciate it. I'm excited to go Harley shopping once the spring comes around.. It's an awful winter here in Upstate NY.

    Probably a custom iron 883, since the seat is a little longer, and it has this thing to attach is bag to.
