  • In this video we check out a pair of Austrian Audio OC818 microphones, and pretty much fall in love. AA and Lewitt are knocking it out the park right now, and looking to the future as well, and we love that!

    Can we all agree that the Austrians have gone mental at making mics and make the most innovative and beautiful sounding mics?
    Another great review guys!!!

    Austrian Audio make bloody good mics. Disclaimer: I'm Austrian. Additional Disclaimer: No fun being Austrian these days.

      Nah, you guys are fine in my book. The fact that you have a beautiful country and you, also, make amazing motorcycles doesn’t hurt, either!

    As someone who has a day job at a music retailer in Canada, and is trying to convince certain customers to go with these mics, it's nice to see a helpful, objective review..well done as always you crazy kids..

    It's so nice to see that some of AKG's most important employees (and some additional experts) kept doing what they are best at. And to me it seems like they achieved even better results without any constraints from the company's owner. They clearly follow AKG's heritage without it being a technological standstill.
    A pair of OC818s is pretty high up on my shopping list, as they seem to work very well for almost anything.

    My AKG C414 is and was my main mic for more that 25 years now and I really hope, that AKG realizes how much they screwed themselves up, letting these guys go, just to move to a less expensive workplace. And I'm happy that it seems to have gone well for these ex employees.
    Thanks for showing!

      Well, the folks at AKG (or what's left of it) are very aware of that. Seems like that can't be said for Samsung...

    • @ragebait988

      They’ll just buy Austrian audio or make a c414 that has the same feature.

    • @peterbrandt7911
      @peterbrandt7911 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ragebait988 Austrian Audio developed their own capsule and I'm quite sure, they didn't forget to get a patent, so AKG has at least to wait. And AKG itself was bought by Harman quite a while ago. ;-)

    been looking at akg 451's for ages but have heard the newer models are shit, so its good to find out about this company, and to see that they do sdc mics too. this mic looks great also ! being able to change the polar patterns is crazy stuff. thanks for the vid!

    I had to make it all the way back from Hurston for this, so you'll need to forgive the lateness. Still, posting while I'm in space.... nearly unforgivable. I'll let you off tho coz it's a good video

    I’m always pant-wettingly excited to watch reviews about bi-polar mics... oh, but then, I can also find them doldrumically depressing... look, you just don’t understand, okay..???!!!!
    Not sure I’d want various mics in my arse an’ all... I suspect it would be uncomfortable, and sound a little muffled.
    Actually, I do change my mind frequently about what would/will be my next ‘bestest’ mic, that I could see myself buying with my own very-limited spondulix... namely, the AKG 414 (‘cause I’ve used them elsewhere, for ages) the Austrian Audio OC818 as here (‘cause it looks like it does more, but with a similar-ish sound..?)... the Warm Audio WA 87 R2 (for a more Neumann-ish vibe, and cheaper)... or now, the Warm Audio WA-8000, which sounds great, even over TH-cam... but is about twice the price of the 87).

    • @mjklein
      @mjklein 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can find one, you might like the JTS JS-1Tube. 9 patterns, unbelievable price. I love mine.

    • @CheapoCardCompany
      @CheapoCardCompany 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mjklein Hi MJ... I don’t think I’ve ever used a JTS mic, so don’t know how they sound. I ‘suspect’ that it’d be in a ‘similar’ ballpark to my existing main mic (ancient AKG C4000 through a dbx valve channel)... so I’m hoping one of the above might be a step up... or, in the case of the Warm Audio 87, provide a different (more delicate..?) vibe.

      I (James) prefer the LEWITT overall for clarity , however the Austrian Audio mic has a silkier tone, and nicer low-end.

    I would buy these just because of the design. Looks trustworthy.
    Then I saw this, 3:55, and now I'm not so sure anymore. The graphic designer who made that should be called in for a serious chat. Oh, wait, it was the CEO who designed that?

    Price increase of 25% :-/ so less interesting.
