    This is so freaking helpful. Thank you so much. We are moving to Oahu in roughly 9 months and I have been struggling to find service animal specific instructions.

    Now it's making me nervous that they are going to separate me and my dog for the check up. Even when I bring him in for a vet visit, they always allow me to be with him for whatever they have to do with him. Is there any way they don't separate us?

    Thank you so much for all of this information! I will be staying with my sig other while he is on Army orders for almost a year. If I visit, leave and come back again, do you know if I have to go back through this whole process?

    Did you have to pay the direct airport release fee($185)? And did you have to turn in the Dog and Cat Import Form (AQS-279)?

    Thanks for this. We have a trip planned for July so I have done all of the research and now just hoping all goes smoothly. One thing though ... they told me someone would meet me in the terminal and check my dog right there . ??? Do you think this is just because we will be on vacation and not moving there ? Was just wondering if I need to check on that detail again and see if I get the same response . That sounds a lot different than someone will meet me and take me to the animal quarantine facility . 🤷‍♀️ I have a Seeing Eye dog for reference .

    • @VisualMoss
      @VisualMoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! so sorry for the late reply, not sure if you still need my advice or not but they might be willing to meet you at the terminal instead of going to their facility since you have a specific seeing eye dog and they might be just trying to accommodate to you? i’m not entirely sure as i’ve never heard to that before, they always have someone come take you to their facility.
      but i hope all goes well!

    Good morning!! I just found your video on Hawaii entry. I'm coming in July for a family vacation. I have a service dog, as well, and I'm so nervous and anxious with all this!! Paperwork and testing will be stressful, but seems easy enough. My biggest fear after speaking to the quarantine office, is that they state I MUST be separated from "Sumo" while they take him to the back for testing. In your experience, is there any way possible I can accompany him back? We have never been separated!
    Thank you very much for what you are doing!!! It means a lot!!!!!!!

      of course! and by law, as long as it's been trained one task. but i've seen multiple service puppies fly on planes too and did perfectly fine!

    This made me wonder what my country would do in the situation of a traveller bringing a service dog. I’m from Australia and we have some of the strictest biosecurity laws out there and we are also rabies free. Pets have to go to a quarantine facility for a minimum of 10 days (unless they came from New Zealand) and owners can’t visit. Obviously they can’t do that with an assistance dog as they are also medical equipment. Something I might look into.

    • @VisualMoss
      @VisualMoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that’s definitely very interesting! i would know for sure that they would require a health certificate that is from a USDA accredited vet since that’s international and possibly a Rabies Titer Test as well? I know that laws in Australia for Assistance dogs is different then US Service dogs too.
      definitely something i should research on!

    what are some things you can do in Hawaii with your service dog?

    • @VisualMoss
      @VisualMoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i’m not sure what you mean? i’ve never really heard of specific things to do with a service dog. I mean in Hawaii it’s pretty much the same as anywhere else, they have rights to any public place.

    Ok hear me out if you go to Hawaii and your dog is currently vaccinated and the vaccine runs out do they offer the vaccine there or do you even need it? Like in my area its required by law

    • @VisualMoss
      @VisualMoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re talking about while you’re still going through the quarantine process when you send in the paperwork they only really care about the rabies vaccine. so as long as that one isn’t expired or close to be expired you’re all good! When we moved some of my dog’s vaccinations expired and they didn’t care as long as their rabies was all good. I just got them updated at the vet here after I moved. if you’re vacationing I would just recommend getting all of them updated before coming.

    • @servicegemsapphire4593
      @servicegemsapphire4593 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I just just got one of my girls vaccinated yesterday for school her vaccine had ran out a month ago but the vet clinic either didn't send out the paper to remind me or it just hasn't gotten here yet and I finally did remember. I had all of that saved in my old phone but then it drowned and I lost all the info

    I'm going to be visiting family and friends, not moving. Is the process still the same?

    • @VisualMoss
      @VisualMoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup! Anytime you visit Hawaii in general. even if you’re just visiting or vacationing. They do it with any animal that enters the island. The SD process is a lot simpler than with pets.

      When the dog qualifies under the Service Dog Program they get direct release! As long as you land in Hawaii to give them enough time to transport and check over the dog, or if you land at a later time then they keep the dog overnight.

      And do you by chance know any info on bring in service dogs into other countries. Such as New Zealand or Australia who have similar views to Hawaii.
