The more I listen to Gell-Mann, the more I think that his perspective on a lot of these physicists may be closer to the truth than people care to admit.
Glad someone sees his matter-of-fact narration as just that. Far too many people think it to be a useful exercise to place physicists of the past in unhealthy hierarchies.
There's a lot of online hate for Gell-Mann. I'm a former physicist and will admit to harbouring this prejudice ... at least partly based on the writings of Feynmann. The more I listen to Gell-Mann though, the more I like him.
He is the narcissist of the first order, totally arrogant and being in illusion of being great. He was a good scientist, so were dozens of others. He thought himself of too highly and others of too little, this will be apparent even for a child who sees his interviews. He has the temerity to talk about intellectual giant like Einstein, Heisenberg, Fermi, Von Neumann so lightly...
I think he mellowed a bit in later life. Funny. Good guy. But he had a tough streak. Feynman was a special case of amusing self centered genius. He mellowed too.
So now Breit was psychotic, too? Not eccentric, mind you, but downright psychotic! This isn’t even funny anymore! Is there anyone left that Gell-Mann hasn’t trashed?!

These stories are hysterical!

Aside from all his other talents Gell-Mann is a very compelling story teller

Gives new meaning to The Breit Frame.

What a diva😂

Yes, himself !
Me.
He gives Henry Margenau tremendous respect as a physicist educator.
Truly great men don't disrespect others.
