It does not look like shit! And it's a good explanation. I'm trying to build a recumbent trike for my son and I'm about to start on the suspension/steering. Did you use neck's from bicycles or scooters to attach to the spindles? I've never welded before but I bought a cheap welder and I've been scavenging parts(especially bearings- I've got 4 sets - not including the ones in the tires - from heavy duty to lawnmower wheel bearings...but the suspension/steering has me a bit confused. Any help would be appreciated.
I used a 1" round bar and and 1" pipe both from home depot and it worked great! I also had welded on a piece of tubestock to get sides to mount the tie rod to. If you need some mor help I can draw up a little diagram let me know
@@Gaznick lets pretend i am trying to explain the spindles and suspension to a friend of mine who is a complete moron (not me though!) HE doeant understand how to make the spindles and where they're attached. And my idiot friend also mentioned putting some shocks (little baby carriage ones) in there too. How would this boob go about that? Any info you could provide would be a huge help! ( and btw - im the moron!) If you have a drawing that woukd be great! Also would aluminum be okay for the outer body? Im using two square steel center pieces that im going to weld together to mount the pedals, unless aluminum would be atrong enough for a 70pound 8 year old? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I think having the steering pivot above is perhaps better, as it wont snag on anything you drive over.. there's always gonna be more space above a Karts floor than below it.. unless you flip the Kart.. ;) Nice work
That was a really good and a helpful video! the mechanism was simple and effective. Do u think this mechanism can be used in a Tadpole configuration Trike?
with steering you could have kept "the bar down design" but just swap the stub axles around except you've welded everything in so when it came to painting you struggle
Hey man I don't have a lot of things on this go kart hahah I just made it for fun not to meet racing specifications. I appreciate that you are a perfectonist but I jut wanted to have fun and help people out with a basic design. They have blueprints online for more in depth walkthroughs or whatever you want to call it.
You also don't have any caster ( for jacking effect on the inside wheel while you are turning), no King Pin Inclination ( to also help with jacking) and no ackerman built into you steering. That cart will push like a dump truck and scrub speed off like mad.
if you do the welding yourself it would probably be in the range of 350 to 400 dollars and thats all supplys included. Moto, clutch, seat, tires, plate steel, tubestock and not to mention the brake as well as cables. Id say closer to 400
Hard to say because I made the frame awhile ago. The steering assembly itself only really took me 6 hours to figure it out. It took rather long mainly because I had made a mistake and had to fix it lol
Yes! Please do not use those tires! Haha I ended up really messing mine up. They just arent durable enough. Atv tires or tractor tires would be best and I put this go kart together rather quickly
Yes I agree and unfortunately had to learn that the hard way when the rim snapped going around a corner and it just keeps rolling farther and farther way hahaha luckily i was able to salvage it but those wheels really suck
With your tie rods out in front like yours, you should be able to draw an imaginary line thru the tie rod eyelets and the kingpins, and they should intersect at the center of the rear axle.I.E., yours should be angled out almost touching the tires. If they were in behind the axle, they would need to be angled toward the frame.watch my video. 'goKart steering explained.Including Ackermann theory' Thanks,John Wade, you tube.
It's like him making fun off you because off the way you you talk he kinda reminds me off Mark Wahlberg😂😂👍 but, your right honnesly what is a go kawt you got me confused?
The problem is not the steering system. The real problem is bluiding a go kart in your parents garage with your parents nagging at you and saying this oh why are you wasting your money. Then going on about with all that money you could've bought an actual car. Then call you a cow and saying dont you have a brain at all. Then proceeds to throw your tools and stuff in the garbage the next day just park a fancy car that your not allowed to step in. Man this is how the video game industry is making so much money. People are forced to turned to video games to be sucked into a make belief fantasy world just to furfill thier aspirations.
sweet, thanks for the info.. really useful.... how did you make your spindles bro? got any site as a reference? msg me if u can b f****d :P keep up the update man... i just might copy cat ya lol
I like it when a guy doesn't try to sound like a know it all. Tells you what he did right and wrong. Good video.
This video is awesome!! You even got mark wahlberg to do the commentary.
Thanks! This really helped me make my own steering mechanism. I can't thank you more!
You're very welcome! Happy to help and thank you for the kind words 😎
dude, i don't know how to thank you man, i been searching for this fro like 2 weeks now for my human powered vehicle project in metal tec. thank you
That go kart just got knocked up a notch. Bam!
Loving the honesty in this video, "bearing looks like shit right now" lol, I also thought Mark Whalberg was talking. You sound just like him
easy to understand & good work vry helpful for mechanical students its mechanism was so simple & effective
Glad to help! I had trouble with it at first and thought I would share my knowledge once I figured it out for myself lol
Great job on your video, showing the details, and explaining each issue anyone may run into. Great job

Nice work
Im glad it was useful! I too had been searching for awhile and came accross some layouts that I tried out and it worked!
Thanks, you saved me from making a mistake.
Super video great job
You've helped me out man much thanks👌✌✌
great go kaht...
I had the same idea for bearings!!
Good video, smaller steering wheel may have been more comfortable and functional?
thank you. thank you jeezz looking at steering online looks like they want about 50 quid for the whole lot.
That was a really good and a helpful video! the mechanism was simple and effective. Do u think this mechanism can be used in a Tadpole configuration Trike?
Hi mate,
I like your video can i embed it on my site?
Merci pour le systeme de direction bonne idée
with steering you could have kept "the bar down design" but just swap the stub axles around except you've welded everything in so when it came to painting you struggle
Good job I'm doing the same thing
You sound like Ted ( the bear from the comedy film ted) Thanks for the help though
Thanks brother for idea

good job plus you sound like someone from the mob
I finally leaned how to assemble steering, please don't curse.
Using this for a school project

This was to help people so they can get out there and have some fun. I used bearings from a wheelbarrow lol simplicity!

Thanks senior, glad this video was useful!
Hey thanks man I really appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed the video
Hiii, nice job!! Couuld you tell me where to find those wheels?? Thanks!! :D
Hard to say because I made the frame awhile ago. The steering assembly itself only really took me 6 hours to figure it out. It took rather long mainly because I had made a mistake and had to fix it lol
May god bless you I was about to quit 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀😂🤷♂️
Keep jumping in and out of that Boston accent.
Very helpful
Glad it helped
hey im thinking about building a go kart and im trying to estimate cost how much was the finished product thanks?
Hey, do you have any more info on the steering system? Thanks.
if you really want the tie rods to be below the frame, switch the wheel spindles
Yes! Please do not use those tires! Haha I ended up really messing mine up. They just arent durable enough. Atv tires or tractor tires would be best and I put this go kart together rather quickly
Is this also possible with the steeringwheel more to the side?
This method should work for that too, but I would make a "quick" mock up just to be sure!
This so helpful for thank u so much
Absolutely Thanks
its called back to the drawing board. or you could of looked at others.
its your go kart "steering" are.. you do homemade or you buy it...????
no suspension?
Your meant to have it so when you turn left or right the outside wheel lifts of the ground. It's called 'kik'
are u from boston?
couldn't you have flipped the steering pegs upside down so they'd face back?
Yes except everything was already hard welded lol
jacob ovaska
Where can i get the turning bars for the tires?
staring is too long what it necessary as per michenizam
Yes I agree and unfortunately had to learn that the hard way when the rim snapped going around a corner and it just keeps rolling farther and farther way hahaha luckily i was able to salvage it but those wheels really suck
appreciate it man thanks
Good luck
Very fuckin nice man
ONDE VC COMPROU ESSAS RODAS ?
boston right??
How long did it take to get that far?
Thanks
oh nice, thank you
wats the length of the frame............
Bro you sound like Paulie D 😂😂
Bearing are cheap on Amazon
what are you do ing

Yay gweeeboo!!!

You sound like Mark Walberg
It would be better just to rebuild the spindles
oh shit, Mark Wahlberg made a go kart video. lmfao
wtf is a go kawt?
It's like him making fun off you because off the way you you talk he kinda reminds me off Mark Wahlberg😂😂👍 but, your right honnesly what is a go kawt you got me confused?

I built it from scratch my friend
Im using a mig
harbor freight wheels can't handle high speeds, its worth the extra money to buy some real gokart tires
