Thank you. Maybe the greatest video in the history of TH-cam. I just got home from picking up my new (to me) wrangler. After driving around all day with the top down, time to put it back on and no way. After 45 minutes of sweating to no avail, I came inside and found your video. Wham, bam up in a snap. Thank you for taking the time to do this. It saved me a trip to the dealership and lots of embarrassment.
Thanks so much for this tutorial. As a first time Jeep driver who has never driven ANYTHING like it, this came in really handy to show me how to remove the soft top. Great instruction and presentation. Thank You!
I got a 2015 2 door JK a couple of weeks ago with the Sunrider top. This video by far has been THE most helpful in showing how to take the top down and put it back up. Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video!!
Jon, thank you very much for making this video. Your video offers the most step-by-step instructions on how to put the top down, but more importantly, how to put it back up again--correctly! I have viewed your video at least 20 times and I am now ready to take my top down! 👍🏻👍🏻 Thank you.
Very grateful for an extremely well done video....absolutely the best I've seen! I'll assume the purchase of an older model will come with it's own quirks....but this video gives me a true sense of the order of events. Thanks again, Mon!
Great video...learned 3 to 4 new things. Had I watched this months back I would have saved from having to get my wife each time I needed to put the top back on...
This video is VERY helpful- I am a first time wrangler owner and I was having so much trouble getting the side latches engaged when putting the top back up alone. Thanks very much for this useful info
Great tutorial, as many have mentioned rolling the rear window up and securing it changes the game as you can lower the soft top nearly anywhere, anytime. Instead of the supplied bungie straps I find investing in some two inch wide double sided velcro straps and running them between the rear bow and soft top provides you with a great easy way to secure the rolled window nice and tight, no bouncing. The first “mod” or “accessory” I tell new jeepers to buy is the velcro, and a spare rear window to hang up in the closet or garage. Don’t worry about scratches or damage on the rear window and enjoy.
Excellent video! Just bought a 2-door JK yesterday and am really excited to take the top down when the weather clears tomorrow. I wanted to be sure I did it right and am confident now that I can thanks to you. Thanks Jeep brother!
This was exactly what I was looking for: confirmation that the problems I was experiencing were also being experienced by others. This is my fifth Jeep; I'm no novice with them. But what's up with the soft tops? The old YJ and TJ had stronger, better designed bows that did not bend when one person is raising the top from the side. On my 2012 JK, the sunrider clips are very small, and is the hardest part; it is impossible to lift everything up on a windy day, by yourself, and not grab the frame as you did ahead of the clip. That's the trick. After all, if the whole assembly pulls back, you have to start all over again. I carry around a 1x4, about 3 1/2 feet tall, to make lifting and holding the top from the rear easier while dealing with the sunrider clips. Thanks again for the tips!
I, too, have experienced similar issues raising and lowering my new Quadratec Soft top. I also agree that previous years bow systems from Bestop seem sturdier than this latest rendition. The issue I have is that the bows do twist out of parallel when raising the top from the side. The Two Bow typically catches on the padding of the rear roll bar. Very frustrating. I do like how he grabbed the bow in front of the Sunrider bow knuckle to help lock the clips into place. I think I'll have to give that a try. I've read posts where others have completely removed those Sunrider sleeves all together. I am thinking that I'll have to leave those sleeves pushed over that knuckle until the top is up, then push them back to lock the Sunrider clips into place. I do realize that my brand new soft top does have some stretching and relaxing to do. But it was refreshing to read a newer comment that others were still having the same issues as I was.
Thank you most helpful video I've seen.... lots of videos showing top coming down but this was the most helpful of how to get it back into place...also it's for a 2 door which I have. .. I also just roll the rear window up. ..makes life easier. ...thank again.
thank you for this video. you are right there was no good video showing this. i am buying a soft top jeep and this video just made my life a lot easier. thank u again. chris
Great Video. Watched it a few times and it really helped - especially putting it back up. My top latches didn't close as easy as it seems yours did but with a little pushing on the top, I got it. For a minute I thought they were about 1/8 short but then I was OK. Anyway, great video. One of the best out there.
Nice video! I bought a wrangler a few days ago and the printed instructions on how to take down the soft top were less than helpful. My car dealer actually recommended that I watch your video before I tried playing with the top for the first time. My only problem was trying to use the zippers on the side windows - they were hard to grip and pull, but I tied some p-cord to them for extra leverage and had no problem after that.
Nice! NOW I know how to do :) I was used to my 2005 soft top and I thought my new 2016 was sooo complicated... now I see everything is either a feature or way to close it more efficiently that the previous generation
thanks man...best video i've found of taking down and putting up soft top. my 2015 sport is a bit more difficult than my 2006 unlimited was. this helped
Super helpful, thank you! 2 extra tips to stress - notice he doesn't lock the very front clasps when he is putting that back window and left section of the top back in place. If you lock the clasps up front, you wont have the slack you need to slip that driver side top back under the clips. I did this and it was a friggin nightmare. Also, its good to do some preventative maintenance on those zippers while they are still in good shape. So many videos out there of folks dealing with broken zippers that get worn. Use a bar of soap or a candle on the zipper tracks so they will glide easier. As dirt and and grime gets in those zippers, they can be tough to zip.
+yoegster I finally started doing this. Saves a lot of time. I have not noticed any adverse effects on the window. In fact after having it rolled nearly all summer, the creases and dimples that were on my 2015 from the dealership disappeared. I feel like my rear window is more likely to be damaged/scratched sitting in my trunk than when rolled and hanging.
Thank you!!! I have had my 2014 Wrangler JK 2 door for almost 6 months and I have been terrified to take the top off because I was afraid I would not be able to get it back on myself!! I am a 5'2" woman with a low patience level...LOL!!! I may practice this in the garage a couple of times before I actually take it off and go somewhere! :)
Thank you so much. We have fought with our top (and each other :) on the correct way) so many times! You showed tips that were not on the included DVD. Saved fingers and foul language!!
Very good video. Could have saved me lots of 4 letter words my first couple attempts. I do have one comment that should be considered by all. The slide bar for the sunrider should ALWAYS be slid forward to prevent hinging. If or when the time comes that you flip the top forward and its tilted just slightly you will get the circle stuck in the wrong spot. When you are doing this by yourself it creates a very bad situation and will inevitably bend the bars. So thank you for the video it was great but do take my word for it. Slide the sunrider bars closed.
Nice video. Pretty much exactly how I do mine. Most Jeep noobs will have some issues and frustrations with that rear window zipper until it loosens up. I know I've said a few choice words before I got the hang of it. Btw, you sound like Kenny Chesney. lol!
HMmmm...... I own an 2017 with the Premium Sunrider Soft Top with Sunroof. I can't find any tabs over the doors to lower the top. I still don't have it down yet. I only use the sunroof, it's been two years!!!
Two fun facts about your method of putting it up... one, this is a PITA with the Betstop tops that have the front crossbar. The latches tend to catch on it as you throw the top forward. Second fun fact... if you lift the bow assembly high enough (slightly higher than you did at 4:26), the quick release knuckles like to snap in half.
Great video. My 2015 2 dr Jeep Sahara came with a hardtop and I just had the same premium soft top installed. I noticed that the top does not fall all the way to the top of each of the doors, there is about a 1/4 inch gap. I was told by the Jeep dealer that installed it that it takes sometime for the top to stretch and that the gap should disappear. I was also told not to put it down for about two weeks to give it a chance to stretch. What's your opinion on this?
great video !! If we have the whole top up and decide at the beach to take the top down can the rear window and side wintows be rolled up and stored in the back ?
i tried shoving it forward with the side rods down, but think it's easier with the side rods up. it used to catch the pins/latches above the doors when i shoved it forward, but now i have to manually press the bars down. that said, it might be easier to manually catch the pins with the side rods down, so i may try that at some point. maybe i can put them back down after i shove the system forward while they're up...or something like that.
Great Video! - What do you recommend doing with the windows while you're driving around top down? Where is the best place to store them, safely, while driving?
If someone wanted to get into your vehicle badly enough, could just unzip the windows and get in? I may be buying a 2014 jk 2dr today so I’m just wandering
Hey Jon, what is your opinion about rolling the rear window, securing with straps and then putting top down...btw i ordered my wrangler and I am waiting for delivery thx
Hey Jon, I just bought a 2014 Jeep wrangler... I've watched your video 15 times... I'm gonna try it tomorrow. You made it look so easy. Wish me luck
Thank you! Your video was the only one that explained how a single person can put the soft top back on!!!

Finally a video that shows exactly every step. Thanks just bought a white 2014 Sahara.
Excellent video.
Great step by step guidance in real time with well explained tips.
Your a pro my friend.

Can you do a tutorial on the straps? One of mine broke and would like to see your alternative. Much appreciated

Thanks for taking the time to comment. It was my first video but hope to help people who didn't have any experience. It was hard for me at first.
Super helpful - your step by step instruction left no stone in turned...great job thank you
I don't even own a Wrangler and I thought the video was amazing. Just perfect. Nice job!!
+Colin Fowler Thanks!!

Nice job! This is the video I always watch when it's been a while since I've taken off the top.
Best tutorial hands down, thank you!
Most helpful instructions I’ve seen. Thank you!
Thanks. Getting my soft top installed tomorrow. This video will help.
thanks man...best video i've found of taking down and putting up soft top. my 2015 sport is a bit more difficult than my 2006 unlimited was. this helped
Thanks for the one person video on putting the top back up. Seems all the commercial videos show two people doing it.
Excellent video! Seriously the only one that has been helpful. Thank you!
Awesome love the pace of the video. Not rushing. Informative. Thanks!!!

leave rear window on. Zipper up sides and roll up, connect with straps.

Actually, unzip almost all the way - then let drop inside. Saves the window from creases, etc.
@@briancohen7154 not having any issues with creases rolling it up. Have done that but find it a pain to reconnect by myself
Well done, easy to understand. Much better than factory demo.
Kenny Chesney tells you how to operate your JK soft top. Good video, helped me with my 2008 JK soft top.
Thank you!!! I have had my 2014 Wrangler JK 2 door for almost 6 months and I have been terrified to take the top off because I was afraid I would not be able to get it back on myself!! well Jey did you ever give it a try?
thank you so much for doing this - my top is brand new and super tight. This video is so very hepful!
Carrie Halstead did you get the premium sunrider top?
Great helpful video. I have a 2008 2 door and I need recommendations for a soft top. Also want to know what stay away from. Thanks, Matt

Thanks for the video, you made it much easier then the video I used before.
thanks. I have the same Jeep. I usually try to muscle things into place and end up breaking stuff lol . This helped!
wonderfully done. if you had to choose however, would you choose hard or soft top?
Thank you for posting this video this is the first one I've watched that was actually helpful made things a whole lot easier😊😊😊
Thanks for this, just bought a JK after owning a CJ-7 and a YJ
Thanks for this Devil Dog, picking up my 2015 2dr Sport this week. Semper Fi
I really appreciate you video. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Nice video. Pretty much exactly how I do mine. Most Jeep noobs will have some issues and frustrations with that rear window zipper until it loosens up. I know I've said a few choice words before I got the hang of it. Btw, you sound like Kenny Chesney. lol!
Only if you have the sun rider soft-top. Optional. The std soft top there are no levers on sides. Excellent video!!
HMmmm...... I own an 2017 with the Premium Sunrider Soft Top with Sunroof.
I can't find any tabs over the doors to lower the top. I still don't have it down yet. I only use the sunroof, it's been two years!!!
Thanx so much! Great video! Does this work the same way for the 2015?
Thanks for the video. Great explanation

Love the chrome wheels dude! Great video... thanks.
Great teaching video John!
great video !! If we have the whole top up and decide at the beach to take the top down can the rear window and side wintows be rolled up and stored in the back ?
Don Donelson I never rolled up my side windows. They were designed to be rolled or bent. The back window, for sure
I have a 2012 JK. I store mine between the rear seat and the back door. With the rear seat up and the top down, it makes a nice pocket.
Great video tutorial! Nice Jeep 🚙 too. 😎👍🏻
Thanks, I attempted several times to get the roof up with out success until I stepper up and pushed the entire top forward. sooooooo easy to do!
Excellent video...this was very helpful. Thanks so much!
This was extremely helpful 🤙

Very good. Clear concise. Thanks
Great video! Thanks for the walkthrough.
Thanks for the great video!! Helped a ton!
Great Video! - What do you recommend doing with the windows while you're driving around top down? Where is the best place to store them, safely, while driving?
I leave them in my garage, if possible. If not, I carefully place them between the front seats and the rear seat.
I have a 2012 JK. I store mine between the rear seat and the back door. With the rear seat up and the top down, it makes a nice pocket.
very clear understandable directions
Is it worth putting the whole top down versus just the partial position?
They finally made the roof as easy as the old geo tracker roofs.
And the old Suzuki Samurai tops
Thank you. This was a lot a help
how do I remove the whole thing i'm going for the hard top ... if you can give a link to a video or something plzz
Do you think the premium top is worth the extra $500?
+vernon gordon Yes, I do. It is cloth vs. vinyl and the color doesn't fade
thx
I've watched your video a few times ...cant wait to order my wrangler...thx for your help
Great instructions. Thanks.
Nicely put together. I think I could do that!!!
What is the name of that roof top??? Where can i get it???
Hi Jon
Do you have a sun shade for your wrangler?
Great vid, thanks for posting.
If someone wanted to get into your vehicle badly enough, could just unzip the windows and get in? I may be buying a 2014 jk 2dr today so I’m just wandering
Shane Raymer totally easy to break into but mine had an alarm
Is that an Oem soft top?
Hey Jon,
what is your opinion about rolling the rear window, securing with straps and then putting top down...btw i ordered my wrangler and I am waiting for delivery
thx
vernon gordon I never remove my back window when I lower the top. I always roll it up. But by rolling it up. It does leave creases in the plastic.
Don't you wish you got the Freedom hard top?
Thank you so much for this video.
Thank you. A nice explanation.
+Mark Aspery Thanks!
Very informative!
Great video, thanks a lot. Cheers!
This really helped, thanks. ✊🏾
Very helpful. Thanks!
Very helpful, thank you
is that a premium top?
vernon gordon yes, it is the cloth, premium top
Very good video. Needs louder sound but thumbs up thank you
Good video!
You always want to unlatch the front hooks first to release pressure on windows.
Damn good video
where do you store your windows with the top down?
I have a 2012 JK. I store mine between the rear seat and the back door. With the rear seat up and the top down, it makes a nice pocket.
u tha man man

thank you. nice video
