I live in Loudoun County Virginia (about and hour west of Washington DC) - Zone 7a. I have PawPaw trees all Over my 3 acre lot. A couple of trees close to my house have over a dozen fruits growing on them and they on get dappled afternoon sun as the are in the east side of the property covered in mostly 80-100’ tall yellow poplars
mid-Missouri zone 6b. Seems that my seed grown pawpaw trees are growing faster than the grafted. The NC-1 pawpaw tree that I purchased at the New Franklin, MO Chestnut Festival died the second winter. That was $60 dollars down the drain.
I transplanted what i believe to be a papaw tree into a little black plastic pot. Its now about 3 ft tall. When you crush the leaves it smells of pepper and motor oil. The end of the looks like a paint brush tip and the leaves are staggered on opposite sides. Would it do better if I plant it in an open area or woodline with a bit more shade.
