I don't know too much about the original, but the biggest problem is definitely going to be the Ubisoft account, and I don't think there is anything that can be done about it. As for the port itself, there seem to be some minor graphic glitches that I think are only in this version, and the audio seems to be too quiet. Otherwise, this seems to be about as good as I could expect.
I just bought this game normally. I don't know where to get it for free, and even if I did, I wouldn't be able to post it here, because of the TH-cam terms of service.
