I think (partly) the reason for Spaced being so good, is that the main 3-4 characters in very simple terms, played a version of their very recent selves. Especially Michael Smiley. So they were able to mine that. There can't be many fans of this that don't relate to at least one aspect directly, like the flat search, the clubbing scene, Tim and daisys night out.
