How far should you take this car? It’s a ‘57 Chevy 2 door hardtop! The holy grail for Tri-Five fans. Saving this car will be pretty expensive but really worth the effort. Once the body is pretty sound, shoot it in primer, do the mechanicals, do the interior and you will have a pretty nice driver. I am loving this build!

Hey folks. Hey don't sweat the rad hose location. Use the thermostat housing off a GM inline 6. The neck points the opposite way allowing you to use a Ford style rad. (both hose bungs on the right hand side). We used that trick on our stock car with a Ford rad for years. I have one in my hand. I'll send it tomorrow. cheers🇨🇦🏁

If you're doing the rockers and have a bunch of the patch panels there just buy the ones to connect the dots and have a nicer less rusty body. You could spray it all one color, or spray some primer on the new metal and then dust on some blue and let nature take the rest.

Floor Insulation. Hey Dan, don't know if you have time to read these but this is something I did to my garage floors. Dbl attached and a single detached for car storage and wood working. Main garage has 2 in pink Styrofoam covered with 5/8 tongue an grove chipboard. The pink holds up to 500 lbs per sq in. and with the chipboard you won't crush it. I just used the cheaper white Styrofoam in the detached storage garage with chipboard. Nothing rusts anymore from dampness coming up through the floor and the garage is a lot easier to heat. Chipboard stands up to floor jacks np.
Another mod I made to the garage door was to install a small squirrel fan on the inside of the door. I attach dryer flex vent to a 4 in abs Y and foil flex to both sides of the Y that slip over exhaust pip[e. They even slide over my V-Star exhausts if I need to run it in the garage. On the outside of the garage door I put a vent louvered flapper 4 in sq that isn't noticeable from the outside. I might have a spare fan about. I can send you pics if yo like.

That turquoise colour in the door jams is nice -- a coat of that in satin might look suitably 'weathered' (instead of satin black) and be a nice change of pace (if this car gets to that stage -- this could easily be a bodywork-to-roller then flip for profit!)

I look at it like this, there's nothing you've talked about doing that can't be undone later, if you choose to. If you like it a certain way, run it! If the next guy to have it wants to change it, that's their choice. Do you Dan!

Might as well order the front quarter patch for the passenger side. She'll be 100% solid on the bottom side then. Which will make Future Dan's problems easier. Also, screw patina on this one, it's not even pretty patina on this one.... repaint it back to that glorious seafoam green with a white top and all trim!

Have you ever tried led loading those panel transition? Much better then bondo.
I say repair the body to such a standard that the next owner doesn't have mess with body welding at all.
He can then concentrate on whatever he wants to do like pimping it up or making a dragcar out of it or whatever.
A solid straight body will make it a good proposition for any potential buyer.

You know a lot more than i do about these things but i would say keep the good rocker long enough to index the floor off it and THEN replace it.

Make a good solid safe car to drive. Get rid of the rust install new floors, rockers and generally build a good solid body. Install windows that function properly, make sure it has good suspension components and brakes and stops and handles properly. Budget builds can still be safe builds. I have a 1965 Skylark sedan that was rebuilt from a wreck. The body was solid but the frame was bent, so a donor car was purchased and the body and running gear was installed on the donor frame. It has a donor front fender, and a couple of donor doors. The interior has been mostly redone, the paint is mostly the same color, and it runs and drives properly. I bought the car from the owner that did that amount of work, and I have brought it along a little further. It now is fun and safe to drive and I probably have less than $1000.00 dollars invested in the entire thing.

My two cents is see if you can find that original color or close in a cheap single stage. Limit your self to one day of body work and a quick weekend sand and shoot. Make a good driver quality look good going down the road. Maybe 210 trim unless you have the bel air stuff with the car
