Daniel will be happy to sand it down and paint the 57 but it definitely going to be some shade of PINK ha thanks for saving this car it's very scary to most people but its purity much like the cars I have fixed in the past . But Dan ain't skered .Or rust bugs ZERO and Dan one more cool hot rod .
How far should you take this car? It’s a ‘57 Chevy 2 door hardtop! The holy grail for Tri-Five fans. Saving this car will be pretty expensive but really worth the effort. Once the body is pretty sound, shoot it in primer, do the mechanicals, do the interior and you will have a pretty nice driver. I am loving this build!
I agree , when I was a kid (14) a guy I knew had a 57 2 Dr hardtop 265 V8 3 on the tree and OD with pearl blue paint , same rims as ones on back of Dan's car !!! Bringin back memories !!!
You know it feels like I’ve been watching forever but I’ve only been subscribed since June of 2021😮 so basically two years and I feel like family and that I’ve watched you grow your channel and save so many cars. These two years have been awesome and I look forward to seeing many more and hopefully meeting you both in the future!
Take your time one piece at a time. I think you can do a good job and not rush it. You did nice job with the 57 convertible. Restomod and nice paint. Good sounding cruiser. Dark charcoal gray and jean and leather interior. We all know you can do it
The 57 is shaping up. Definitely do two panels on the passenger side. Get the body and floors sound and, do some rough body work on both sides then tint some primer blue. Nice work Dan !
Hey folks. Hey don't sweat the rad hose location. Use the thermostat housing off a GM inline 6. The neck points the opposite way allowing you to use a Ford style rad. (both hose bungs on the right hand side). We used that trick on our stock car with a Ford rad for years. I have one in my hand. I'll send it tomorrow. cheers🇨🇦🏁
This is car that deserves to be saved, you have the panels and proven skill set to fix. I say replace all you can still keeping the budget. Plus, it opens up more possibilities in the future and more videos for me to watch.
If you're doing the rockers and have a bunch of the patch panels there just buy the ones to connect the dots and have a nicer less rusty body. You could spray it all one color, or spray some primer on the new metal and then dust on some blue and let nature take the rest.
I'd go as cheap as you can to make it safe. Patina is like so yesterday, put a tractor supply paint job on it and make it a giveaway car when you hit 200K subs.
I never get tired of watching your ingenuity at work. Don't overthink, just get in and get going. Great advice for working on cars and everything else. Really looking forward to seeing the progress on this build. If you wanted advice on the finish, I think a red primer would be a good choice. Keeps the new steel from rusting and goes with the low-buck build ethos.
This car has value potential beyond average hot rod, it needs to at least get into a primer and sealed. Body work on it is going well, keep going its the real deal.
• DANI always does an excellent job with the camera. She creates some of the best videography ever seen. Thank you, Dani. You get right in there where it counts, show exactly what your husband is doing or is talking about, always making the best viewing angle for us out here on the internet.
That work on the quarter panel looks great dan , leave the patina or not ? If it were mine id float out the body and at least a simi flat color , a lot of additional work and cost however it would be worth it .
Just so you know, the door doesn’t close very well because the hinge pillar is rotten at the bottom, Which allows the door to fall as soon as you unlatch it. Hopefully the new rocker will solidify it. Ask me how I know!
Floor Insulation. Hey Dan, don't know if you have time to read these but this is something I did to my garage floors. Dbl attached and a single detached for car storage and wood working. Main garage has 2 in pink Styrofoam covered with 5/8 tongue an grove chipboard. The pink holds up to 500 lbs per sq in. and with the chipboard you won't crush it. I just used the cheaper white Styrofoam in the detached storage garage with chipboard. Nothing rusts anymore from dampness coming up through the floor and the garage is a lot easier to heat. Chipboard stands up to floor jacks np. Another mod I made to the garage door was to install a small squirrel fan on the inside of the door. I attach dryer flex vent to a 4 in abs Y and foil flex to both sides of the Y that slip over exhaust pip[e. They even slide over my V-Star exhausts if I need to run it in the garage. On the outside of the garage door I put a vent louvered flapper 4 in sq that isn't noticeable from the outside. I might have a spare fan about. I can send you pics if yo like.
Face reality, Dan. It’s worth it in the long run to buy the panel. Besides, if you blow the “ budget”, there’s always Dani’s car to pick parts from. Peace.
I remember when patina was paint that was wore off down to the primer in certain areas of the vehicle. Now, it's just rusty metal. I like the patina where the paint is worn down to primer, but that's just me. I'm sure whatever you do with this ol' girl will be great! Looking forward to seeing this one finished, thanks for sharing! 😊👍
I got a 57 Pontiac chieftain I'm going to attempt I been watching getting ideas how to attempt this wish I lived next to you. Thanks for another great video!
IMO rough it together. Hit it with epoxy primer. Engine, trans, put it away for spring then sell it to help finance the new Nomad project. That thing is where the equity is. However, I will watch and enjoy no matter what you decide. Great episode as always 👏
We’ve gotta cut up a rusty passenger side fender to fix a rusty drivers side fender on my 12 year olds 76 amc hornet. Ya gotta figure out ways to make it work, and you always do Dan
Do the Rockers first , then the Floor. Then step back and take a new loo at it all. Gonna take some effort to gap those Doors. One side rocker at a time ... Go get em Dan
The more I watch the more I’m thinking. Man, this is a factory 1957 Chevy two door. Awesome that you’re saving this thing. It deserves good body repair and a coat of paint. Even if you use semi gloss black Tremclad.
Do the rockers both sides, replace both panels on rear. Buy the last quarter panel. You are replacing doors so go for the repairs. Then paint it! Look how nice the 57 'Vert' looks. Go with Red on this one, remember 'resale red' Dan.
Dan you have the talent, ability and resources to take this beauty to the next level. Restoring the 57 into a beautiful street rod would make some awesome videos I would be sure to watch.😎
Keep up the outrageous work Dan. You amaze me with your head down, move forward ethic. Since you are getting close to the light at the end of the tunnel, will you sell the '57? It is good that Danielle (sp sorry) supports your efforts. I thought you might sell the '57 and the yellow 55, 56 (?) to fund the Nomad dream carom but they aren't my vehicles. All I know is that you pulled a major score with the New Nomad. If I don't get my DD Speed Shop fix, I feel that the day is wasted. Keep up the good work. Marc Summerville, SC (outside of Charleston. P.S. You do all this and have a day job also? UNREAL.
Do both Rockers and Quarter Skins. Get the foundation right. You can paint the Patina look if you want but get the foundation right now while you are there!!!
This maybe my favorite build of yours so far. I'd continue with the "make it presentable" direction. Get rid of that goofy hood ha... decent running drivetrain. After that I'd spend some money on a nice front bench, door panels and make the dash all perty.
Since you replaced the rocker and 2 panels on the drivers side, you might as well do everything on the passenger side. That way you'll have a solid car when it's done and no weird floppy metal stuff going on. Where did you get the LED light strips that are on the garage door? That's a darn good way to really light up a garage with the door open or closed.
If the comments can help your decision… you’ve got some great cars. Loving each of them. For this I’d like to see a satin blue patina paint job. I imagine e you can fix the body and throw some tractor paint overtop. You’ve got the best projects.
Thanks for saving my shtty day. Dan don't stop a Thing your doing, saving a 55,56,57 your a saint. Evenishy ain't 94%, it's still 90ish. Love your content takes me back when me and buddies fudged things just for Saturday night.
How about on the right side quarter between the door and wheel well, instead of buying a patch panel, do you still have a few of the 4 dr doors? Take some sheet metal off of those and form a patch panel for free. Also, please don't leave it rusty. Even primer would look better than rust. Just my opinion. Loving this build.
that is coming along nicely making it have structure is a win and using the parts that you cut off to fix other places is smart happy to see this on the paint it quarter you could primer/ paint the lower half and with all the spray can test bursts just continue those down a bit to blend maybe idk fun project fun watch
The patch panels you've installed so far look great 👍 no matter what you do it'll look better than what's there already. Keep up the great work and the cool videos 👍✌️🇺🇲
This thing was a real "cave and pave" job back in the day. Every time I've moved my 57, it drops another few pounds of window screen and bondo- totally familiar.
My son is 9 years old🎉 I’ve been watching you as long as he can remember! He loves the show as much as I do, when I bought an equally ratty 52 Chevy for a frame swap he immediately fell in love with the idea of building just like “dd guy” I’m so excited to build it with him and you get the credit(blame! If you ask my wife) 😂

Hey Dan you already put the rocker and patch panels on the driver's side you already have the tear lower quarter and rocker for the passenger side rocker get the front patch panel and the quarters and rockers are pretty much done and once you put the good doors and floor pan in you will have a decent car it will make a better job. I was telling a friend how you will cut up a car in a heartbeat and your self taught at that. Great video.
Really enjoying this repair rebuild by the time the end comes you’ll probably have given solid advice on every aspect for someone doing similar looking forward to it 👍from🇬🇧
I think you should do a pretty decent job on this one, man. This is the king of the tri-fives outside of Nomads or Convert's. Do some scuff and shoot paint in the stock color. get it as straight as you can and just paint it the stock color, even if it's rattle can- scuff and shoot. You are really kicking some ass with the Tri-Fives! I'm going to do mine with some of your techniques! Keep it up!
Picking away at the crust. I like it so far. Mastercrap cutoff wheels. I bought a stack and used one. Rest went in the trash. Im sticking with the Walters (not a sponsor) Patina or not, its not going through the shreddder. Im a little fed up with the mech stuff, i want to bash some sheet metal.
Can't wait to see you get this one on the road. I have a four-door hardtop like the one that you made into a convertible I was going to copy off of you but I changed my mind because the car was just too solid. Can't wait to see you get this one done
You do you boo boo I'm cobbling together my obs Chevy truck for my granddaughter lol I'm not experienced at all so you and a couple other TH-camrs helping a fella like me out keep up the grind
One thing that’s interesting is that for a hard top which I believe are all belair trim. That one had 210 style top of 1/4 trim. Belair goes right to rear window and holes aren’t there for it.
the car has a number of clues that it's a 210 HT and not a Belair. The 2dr HT's came in two trim levels - 210 & Belair. 210 HT's are my favs partially because they were built in much smaller numbers. I'm hoping Dan keeps it a 210 and doesn't 'Bel-air-ize' it.
I think if you’re going as far is to do the rockers and patch panels if you can find cleaner doors why not I’m pretty sure you can bring it back , I just can’t wait it’s going to be bad ass…
With that much metal work done, it's 'a pretty decent car. You should bring it to at least a strong driver quality. That would mean paint and new interior also.
That turquoise colour in the door jams is nice -- a coat of that in satin might look suitably 'weathered' (instead of satin black) and be a nice change of pace (if this car gets to that stage -- this could easily be a bodywork-to-roller then flip for profit!)
I look at it like this, there's nothing you've talked about doing that can't be undone later, if you choose to. If you like it a certain way, run it! If the next guy to have it wants to change it, that's their choice. Do you Dan!
Might as well order the front quarter patch for the passenger side. She'll be 100% solid on the bottom side then. Which will make Future Dan's problems easier. Also, screw patina on this one, it's not even pretty patina on this one.... repaint it back to that glorious seafoam green with a white top and all trim!
Have you ever tried led loading those panel transition? Much better then bondo. I say repair the body to such a standard that the next owner doesn't have mess with body welding at all. He can then concentrate on whatever he wants to do like pimping it up or making a dragcar out of it or whatever. A solid straight body will make it a good proposition for any potential buyer.
Dan this is a 2door hardtop make the car solid and get rid of the patina and make it somewhat nice with your budget build a primer color if you want or one step better some nice paint Have a good day Dan
Coming along very fast man , can’t wait for the next video. You will have it running in no time. Keep up the great work big shout out to you from Mexico
Make a good solid safe car to drive. Get rid of the rust install new floors, rockers and generally build a good solid body. Install windows that function properly, make sure it has good suspension components and brakes and stops and handles properly. Budget builds can still be safe builds. I have a 1965 Skylark sedan that was rebuilt from a wreck. The body was solid but the frame was bent, so a donor car was purchased and the body and running gear was installed on the donor frame. It has a donor front fender, and a couple of donor doors. The interior has been mostly redone, the paint is mostly the same color, and it runs and drives properly. I bought the car from the owner that did that amount of work, and I have brought it along a little further. It now is fun and safe to drive and I probably have less than $1000.00 dollars invested in the entire thing.
My two cents is see if you can find that original color or close in a cheap single stage. Limit your self to one day of body work and a quick weekend sand and shoot. Make a good driver quality look good going down the road. Maybe 210 trim unless you have the bel air stuff with the car
Never gets old watching Dan get it done after a day job.
Keep it up
Make it structurally safe and the patina is way past it's cool factor. So it needs sanded, primed and some sort of paint.
Ooo that seems like alot of work haha

Don't need a trailer Queen need a drive , let the big money people do their thing.
@@MT-STUFF I'm not talking a concours paint job. Just sand the rough stuff down and throw some satin black on it.
I was thinking the same. Maybe a cheap paint job as he did with the red convertable.

I say if you have it install it and buy the front quarter for pass side. Its all more videos we are gonna watch
I love this stuff
You can make your own patina. If you have the panels replace them. Just makes for a better end results.
You do you boo boo I'm cobbling together my obs Chevy truck for my granddaughter lol I'm not experienced at all so you and a couple other TH-camrs helping a fella like me out keep up the grind
Flat black on 57 hard top. Jacked up front and back no front bumper. With key stones. No white letters. Like I saw in 1965.
Dude!! Back to the beginning!!! Lots of Talent no cash!!!✌️
I'm hoping Dan keeps it a 210 and doesn't 'Bel-air-ize' it.
as much as you complain about sheet metal work... You are pretty good at it. Flat black matches everything
Yeah u ain't wrong
I look at it like this, there's nothing you've talked about doing that can't be undone later, if you choose to. If you like it a certain way, run it! If the next guy to have it wants to change it, that's their choice. Do you Dan!
Might as well order the front quarter patch for the passenger side. She'll be 100% solid on the bottom side then. Which will make Future Dan's problems easier. Also, screw patina on this one, it's not even pretty patina on this one.... repaint it back to that glorious seafoam green with a white top and all trim!
Doing a fantastic job Dan, by the way I have a extra gold grill and electric windshield wiper motor if you have a need for them.
Great show keep up the good work be safe my friends God bless all
Subscribed to your channel for a while. I have to say I'm amazed how much content you put up compared to other channels I watch.
Have you ever tried led loading those panel transition? Much better then bondo.
I say repair the body to such a standard that the next owner doesn't have mess with body welding at all.
He can then concentrate on whatever he wants to do like pimping it up or making a dragcar out of it or whatever.
A solid straight body will make it a good proposition for any potential buyer.
hey dan they call you a hack but you do a real good job of you hacking things together . so do what you do best and screw the rest lol .
Clean those quarters and when the floors in hit the whole thing including the trunk and splash pan area with DP90.
Two door hard top, next to the Nomad the most desirable and expensive of the tri five chevys fix it at least as well as the convertible.
Please Dan do some body work. 57s are a dying breed 😮😅
Hey just an idea, what about bolting hood and fenders together for a tilt front end?
Dan this is a 2door hardtop make the car solid and get rid of the patina and make it somewhat nice with your budget build a primer color if you want or one step better some nice paint Have a good day Dan
You know a lot more than i do about these things but i would say keep the good rocker long enough to index the floor off it and THEN replace it.
Love what you guys do over there in the states with these old classics, I have a business down under doing similar stuff on our old classics ❤
Manitoba Canada
Make it nice. Spend lots. Dani can always get a second job!! 😂😂
My two cents is see if you can find that original color or close in a cheap single stage. Limit your self to one day of body work and a quick weekend sand and shoot. Make a good driver quality look good going down the road. Maybe 210 trim unless you have the bel air stuff with the car
To bad Dani can't weld, grind and sand. I seen a vid on Chad showing Jolene how to mig. she was pretty good at it.
Love your videos awesome content
