Yeah, no one does these maps outside of trying to get commendations so chances are no one would have checked the board to see it. Rare really needs to overhaul the burying system to make it worthwhile.
@@Kezsora i would do them more, but most seem to be 'buried' by NPCs (the name on the board is an obviously NPC name). takes away from the experience of digging up random treasure for me. if the buried loot was cross-server, so you were actually burying a player's goodies, i'd do it way more
@@Julian-sw9fn I've actually never thought of those being NPCs, but they could very well be. I thought it was just masking the name of the people (like how you can change yours and other crews nametags to be generic if you're a content creator).
I still remember when the treasure digging first came out and the streamer RobRaven stacked many many MANY forts and skelly ships and anything he can get his hands on and then burried 8+ treasure maps worth of loot on JUST shark bait cove. Sadly hes on a EU server so I had no chance of going out there and getting the map myself, but its great to see another youtuber sharing the love too with how trash the maps seem to be anymore Thank you!
I may have done the same thing. Stacking World events and shrines to just bury it at the end of the day for 4 days straight. Just to finish all the accommodations
Here's another tip for finding plaer buried treasures, if you walk over the spot where the chest is buried, you will hear a distinct sound of walking over a hollow, wooden space rather than the soft crunching of sand/dirt. Also sometimes the dirt won't look different from the surrounding dirt, but that's where this walking strategy comes in, walking around the area of where a chest may be if you can't find it can certainly give you a hint as to where to dig.

Most of the map (all stashes) you see are made by the server. To know which one are real, look at the names without streamer mode active, and if it sounds "piraty", it's a bot one. Also, only bot ones are auto replaced when taken, and there are constantly 2 for each region. Also, when you post a map, it will disappear when the server closes, giving you a bit (but not as much as if a player completed it) season progression, et reputation. This system could have been a lot better if maps from closed servers were going to another server, to keep the flow of player-made map going, and have a bit more loot than the 1-3 treasures from the bots (which cannot even be athenas).
This is such a nice idea if only rare didn't make it so that server wipes delete your stash after you post the quest. Any merges or shutdowns and that map was probably gone before anyone even looked at the quest board
a suggestion for next time maybe: mermaid shrines and treasuries mermaid shrines are actually pretty fun with it being a little puzzle and mermaid treasuries have more fighting involved. just make sure you won't get sinked whilst doing them!

Recently, one of my friends buried a storage crate at Tribute Peak because we were showing one of our friends who just got the game the Shores of Gold tall tale because she was curious. Next time we logged in, we were both surprised to see that someone had gone to Tribute Peak and dug up the treasure.
It may be weird but I like digging treasure a lot of the time. It is pretty calm and even if I get bad items I still sell them. Plus I love putting together treasure maps for others! (I am not good at reading maps either so it's good practice)
In case it wasn't clear to some, Cliff uses the feature that randomizes names on players; those randomized names are the same they use for the Auto-generated Quests they put on the board. knowing *that* you can usually use the names to judge if it was really a player made map, and if it might actually be worth anything usually its not but thats just how it be sometimes
Cliff, I've got a content idea for you but it's gonna be even harder than mermaid keg trap. So yk some tall tales have special treasures that can only be obtained while u do them, collect lots of them, complete a fortress and make a special tall tale treasure vault. Then lead a newbie to that vault... This will take so long
I did the quest board and regular voyages for a while and even continue to use the quest board to get the dailies. It's really handy for keeping your quest tab full
For everybody out there that has quit grabbing missions from the board I will put missions on there that are full of s*** that I didn't feel like turning in sometimes you may find a huge stash hidden don't discount them every once in awhile there is a diamond in the rough

I burried all the treasure I got when doing a tall tale 3 times over. There was some good stuff in there. Chest of Rage, Ashen chest, Ashen key, 10ish kegs surrounding all the tresure, a bunch of mermaid gems. It would've been a decent haul, but I didn't want any unnecessary loot on my boat while grinding tall tales. I put 'em all on the board. No idea if anyone used them or not.
I think that the brig on the FOTD with a sloop was me with a bunch of russian fellas. But the thing is that we were stacking the event and an athena galleon came our way but didnt attack us so we sent my sloop to negotiate with them and i went with the sloop so i didn't know that you fought them.
I try to either bury amusing treasure, such as a chest with a some goblets and a pitcher, or some fairly valuable stuff. I've got a goal to have a map with at least three chests of Sorrow. I hate those things as they cry at the worst times, and giving someone three of them would be quite a boon financially. It could also get their ship sunk if all three cry at once, but they're not called a cursed chest for nothing. There are some days I can't get away from the blasted things so I'll hand that curse to someone else.
The very first one of those I did had like 25 ashen chests of various forms. Never had one with more than 2 chests since. Musta been the good shit to get me hooked
Love the video, the maps might of been better if they were all actually from players, if i recall correctly many of them are randomly generated like any other map. There is also a big chance no body even got your map, they get reset every here and there

Everyone underestimates the treasure board but firstly, it doesn’t use a quest slot so you can have a Tall Tale (SoG to run away), a long Quest, and a Quest from the board, meaning that you lose nothing. Secondly, you know what has less value than a Copper Trinket ? A Filled storage crate, because you can’t sell it and because you’re gonna leave, these won’t be of any use. So what I usually do is bury the crate and set it on the board, so that the next dude gets himself some good loot to start off with. Take that, Quest Board haters !

PRO TIP!!!!!!! Fill up your storage crate with the cannonballs, wood and food so that you don't have to make mulitple trips from your boat to the dock if you only have a little time.
I once sunk an athena galleon with 2 athena chests so i decided to bury them and give them to a crew they were so happy and let me have an ashen winds skull!
The concept of the treasure maps are really cool but not very well executed due to the fact that the only reward you get for it is rep that you would have gotten anyway if you had sold it. Its better to take the maps off of other peoples ships because then you might get some staches that they had hidden for them to return to later
A couple days ago I was try to get the forsaken scar I didn’t care for cash at the time so I re burned them and burned three chests of sorrows all on the same map in fletchers rest I hope someone try’s it if they haven’t already

If your ever curious a map is considered a horde when 5 items are buried on one island but a map can hold 10 pieces of buried loot

I usually put a lot of good treasures in the board. Usually from the siren treasuries.
When I start a voyage I typically check the quest board to see if any of the maps there match up with the islands I'm already going to

I did something similar the other day, raided one of the new forts and buried all the loot to post on the board. Ended up with 2 maps that I posted.
