Souvlaki took 20 years to sink in. I bought this album in 1996 based on the cover, never heard Slowdive before that. It ended up being one of my all time favorites and here I am almost 50 getting misty over over it. Seeing those young people connecting with them in 2018 makes me happy.
I was there. Literally cried throughout 80% of the show.

Usually bands only get back together for the money, Slowdive are different coming back with an amazing album, The new songs fit in perfectly with the old, Superb stuff

Listen to those guitars cry....I picked up s s s back when it was released, I remember the terrible reviews, shook my head...now slowdive 20 years later have music which is beautifully timeless, take a much deserved bow guys..and thank you!!

I think they played Alison on a higher tempo. To be honest, I much prefer the original version, it should be a slow and mellow song.

I play music in front of people too & when I'm really pumped in front of an enthusiastic audience, sometimes it's hard to keep the proper pace & you just play a bit faster. Might be intentional too, as the tune is poppier when faster and perhaps more accessible to new audience fans. Just my 2 cents. :)
Artists are free to play how they want and how they feel. Enjoy music and stop bitching about this and that!
I think there's something to be said about how it's done live, and Shoegaze has come a long way to be able to sound this good. Of course they may have just sped it up for other purposes, but I think they really managed to make it sound good in terms of creating a really good soundscape that I like the song for. Both versions have something to latch onto, but I think what's more impressive is the fact they were able to do it at all. Maybe they just couldn't get it to sound right without speeding it up, or it could have been a misclick on the drummers part, or maybe they wanted to do it. Either way, I like both versions, and I'm just glad they're still doing stuff to this day.
