    The testers aren't being unfair, remember that this isn't a cashier job, it's literally people who run into danger. And this huge disaster happened, well there are going to be problems besides just the huge disaster taking place. The guy took points off of deku because the first thing he said to someone in a huge traumatic experience with an "injury" was oh this isn't good and where's your grandpa. Deku as the guy said was supposed to comfort him his presence and make sure that HE was okay as the immediate problem. Thats why deku flashed back to all might saying his catch phrase and truly understanding what it meant. "I am here, therefore you will be okay". And this test is meant more for students about to actually graduate to the real world, or are taking on more responsibilities as sidekicks. This is for a learners permit for them to be able to go into situations possibly much worse than this, so I would hope that they would throw in a few curelveballs to give a challenge

    Having a hero license doesn't automatically put you in work (which is somewhat unrealistic - IRL government-funded training, such as police academy, is expected to be 'paid back' by a certain amount of work), graduates who become fully licensed still need to either find a job as a sidekick at an agency or open their own.
    I really wish it was the "Help Us Group" for H.U.G. Missed opportunity.
    I think you're really onto it about Ochaco's feelings for Izuku. This is probably her first major crush, and percieving it as "I need to be right for him" is an immature mindset that she needs to move past and reassess.
    Hairy guy isn't a teacher, just a take-charge student, probably the class rep. The teacher is the plain-looking guy talking to Shishikura in the stands, bringing up Stain.

    Y'know, it's interesting that you talk alot about a different teaching method, things that are about real life experiences and skills, but you don't see this as one of them.
    I would say it's the perfect test. It's not just about passing, you get something out of it too, *especially* the surprises.
    Ofcourse the students get stressed. But that is what WILL happen when they are on a scene - people are in danger.
    Stressful tests are bad only if the stress doesn't build you.
    I think you probably still have instincts remaining from your experiences as a student with the schooling system. but hey, that's for you to figure out.

    I’m also someone who is extremely goal oriented, but I have multiple developmental and later developed mental inhibitions to achieving some of these goals. Some days I just have this drive to want to get a move on with learning everything I possibly can about my major (botany) right now, and yet other days, like today, I literally am too drained and tired to use anything other than speech to text to write a comment on a TH-cam video. It’s like I have all of these dreams but I get so easily distracted by everything else, or my entire body decides it doesn’t want to move to do with my mind so desperately wants to. So I definitely relate to you in some cases. After two months off for the summer vacation in between semesters, getting back into the flow of school it’s proving to be pretty hard, so I really envy your discipline.

    Ochaco’s whole suppress her feelings moment is a very two-sided situation. It is nice to see she won’t let her feelings get in the way of what needs to be done and wants to focus on her larger goal of being a hero, but when you consider that she’s trying to push her feelings down it is a concern because now those feelings will be boiling over but without any reciprocation. It’s a lot to ask of a 15 year old girl! Love is a two-way street and it’ll be hard to manage if she isn’t getting anything back.
    As for the test, yeah, brutally cruel but kind of not far off from the real world MHA contends with. When they go professional something like this can and does happen, and in a world where villains could come out of nowhere and wreak havoc it makes sense that a hero has a lot to live up to and be perfect about.

      Vaguely related to that, I like how the relationship between Deku and Uraraka has developed. It really is a case of two 15-year olds having feelings for each other, but not really being able to know yet what those feelings actually are. What's the difference between love and just "respect and admiration"? And would a 15-year old be able to easily tell the difference?

    • @zdeistersreviewcorner6428
      @zdeistersreviewcorner6428 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good observation! It also helps that in some ways love, respect and admiration aren't necessarily mutually exclusive either.

    Technically, they aren't applying for government jobs. That is just who pays the bills. They are ONLY getting training and licensing so they can go work for private hero agencies or start their own.
    So the entire operation is government funded and government regulated, but the actual operators are private contractors basically.
    Also, the heros are not only funded by the government. They also get royalties from merchandise and sponsorship deals. Posters, action figures, clothing, etc.
    Actually now that I think about it, I am not entirely sure the government funds the hero agencies at all. It is entirely possible they get their funding entirely from their merch sales and sponsorship deals. Which would explain why so many heros worry about popularity and seem to have side gigs as models, actors, etc.

    I haven't watched the dub so I don't know if it's cuz of the way it's translated or we just interpreted it differently, but I don't think uraraka was assuming what deku wants. Before being her crush, deku is a huge inspiration for her as a fellow aspiring hero. Seeing him so focused and hardworking motivates her to be the same way. But lately she's been distracted (at the training camp toga distracted her by asking about her crush before sucking her blood, we've seen her bothered by mei to the point where she's zoning out thinking about it, and she's been kinda distracted this exam).
    So the way I interpreted it was that she was thinking more about herself, and that her feelings for deku was making her lose focus on her career, so she'll put those feelings away to be the best hero she wants to be meaning a hero like deku.

    a good way to this about the profession of hero in mha is a exaggerated combo of police and emergency rescue worker. on top of the skill required in combat and rescue, their attitude and emotional intelligence is incredibly important because they are directly interacting with people in crisis with high levels of distress. they need to be able to manage their own stress levels regardless of the situation and focus on helping. if a police officer or a paramedic had an attitude like bakugo's (unnecessarily aggressive, and generally not very specific and helpful, as he didnt give instructions or anything), directed at the people they were meant to be rescuing, it would (should) be unacceptable as they need to avoid escalating stress and tension. the test is meant to be for students in their second year (UA's Class 1A & B are taking it a year early, hence why many of the other students are far more experienced in rescue situations than them), only a yr away from graduation and almost working in the real world, with real lives on the line. love ur reactions ^-^

    The things you are talking about @13:00 remind me of a quote I heard a few years ago that really blew me away.
    "Tradition is the set of solutions to problems we have forgotten all about."
    I think more people need to hear that quote and have it explained to them. These days people look at the world and deny tradition, or belittle it as the backwards ideals of a dumber, more primitive, generation. You often hear the phrase "Some old dead white men" for example.
    In reality, we have tradition because following those traditions prevents severe societal problems that we don't anticipate, or never knew about, because we haven't had to deal with them for generations. And now that we are ignoring tradition, and even actively tearing it down, the world is being flooded with problems we have no idea how to handle.

    I enjoyed your coverage of Avatar and Full Metal, enjoying this one as well
    Reguarding the Exam within an Exam issue, Its not something i have ever seen in academic circles, but I have seen in allot in first responder training. Of course not to the extent as in the show.
    When I was about the same age as these kids i was training to become a lifeguard, this involved first aid, cpr, a large number of rescues for different types of in pool injuries and drownings, how to monitor a pool and prevent injuries in the first place, and how to maintain the pool water, etc.
    As part of the training we would run drills with different numbers of guards, victims, bystanders, and settings. Story time: Up to this point we had not done more then two victims at a time (double clutch downing) with three guards, but this time things where different, again 3 guards everything as was normal, then 6 people jump into the deep-end at the same time and start downing while a 7th on the deck has a heart attack. The instructor wanted to see how we would handle something we had not trained for yet.
    What do you do? This is what I did: First Signal the other guards with the whistle; Second Jump in, approach a victim from behind, and carry them to the nearest wall; ask the victim if they can get out on there own; return and repeat till no drownings remain; Discover the heart attack and assist with CPR. What was the catch? The drowning victims had been instructed that if they are asked if they can get out on there own then they can, if they are not asked then they where to loose grip on the wall and silently drown this time requiring extraction from the pool (loss of conciseness, breathing and pulse). This scenario could quickly get out of hand, much like the one in the show.
    If there is one thing that bothers me about this show its the lack of attention to first aid, outside if recovery girl its not mentioned, passing reference to a first aid class is probably all it would take. Now that i'm remembering my lifeguard training there is something that bothers me with the rescues; No attention paid to airway management or spine alignment. If your not careful the person you just rescued may not be able to walk, or breath for themselves depending on the location of a spinal injury. I should probably go to bed before i think more holes into a show i love.

      Didn't one of the bystanders that wind guy lifted take off points because moving a victim before checking the type of injury could be dangerous for that reason. I mean, yeah, you're right that it's not focused on or really referenced. I would love to see these kids learn first aid and maybe even how some of them can use their quirks in various ways for first aid.

    if you ever take license for everything in japan you will get it, the test is so damn hard the test is design to make everyone fail

  • @yellowman5942
    @yellowman5942 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I get where your coming from with the testing being rigged against them but ultimately this makes total sense. These people are heroes, any mistake they make, could cause someone to lose there life. In a real situation something like this could happen and if so they would have the judgement to act. After they get these hero liscences they are responsible for those decisions. Ultimately it is better for it to be hard, and produce someone who knows what there doing, then an easy test that gives a hero a liscence prematurely.

  • @Noveler00
    @Noveler00 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't believe the test givers are trying to be decietful with there surprise tests and circumstances. I feel like they are trying to simulate the random and chaotic nature of hero work. The kids can't alway be prepared for every situation and must make quick descisions on what they can do for the given scene. Many quirks have a tendency to lean toward certain aspects of hero work; combat, supoort, recon, communication, etc. Giving them a controlled environment, to figure out where they stand at these critical junctures, should help them when they out in the field on their own.

    Like have kept saying This hero system will fall apart and Deku will become a vigilante due to this very system. Maybe he will demolish it or the Villains will fck shet up or something. Mark my words there will be a trigger of some sort regarding the whole Hero "job" thing. Being a Hero is not a job and never will be.

    • @AGoodwinTV
      @AGoodwinTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      One of the issues with the "hero" thing in this world is that it's too many things at once, and many of those things are not idea or value based, they're like... alliance and bureaucracy based which is weird.

    I mean they are really trained not just fight villains but how to save people and propeties
    Just what our world's real heroes are like firemen lifeguards and good police
    There limitations than your comic book heroes
    But they have big problems
    I mean I rather be rescued by trained people than superman in a collapsed building he just carry the big piece not minding the other debris and the big piece might collapse killing people
