  • Amanohashidate is a natural sandbar located in Kyoto Prefecture, considered to be one of the three best scenic views in Japan. On this video, we drive from the seaside village of Ine to Amanohashidate. We check out the view from Amanohashidate View Land, where we feast on some local food.

I told Gary about the wharf roaches. His first question to me was…..’you do know where we’ve seen them, right?’ I was clueless, until he said ‘we have them on our islands.’ LOL We both play Animal Crossing: New Horizons on our Nintendo Switches. They’re much cuter looking in game form. 🤭

The Wharf Roaches are actually isopods, related to rolypolies or pillbugs. They are a little freaky, but they eat algae and are cleaner organisms in shallow waters and shores.

Oh my goodness! When the video first began, I thought……kawaiso ne, brother wa tsukarete iru yoda. Now I know why. I’m so sorry that you had such a hard time. Of course I had to Google what a wharf roach was. No way could I sleep through that. Can you imagine how many homes experience wharf roaches on a daily basis? I’m so happy that brother Satoshi saved the day! OMGEEE…..Amanohashidate is stunning! I’m so happy that you took the monorail up. Hahaha! You know that I had to take a screen shot of the sandbar, turn my phone upside down to see what you both were looking at. I tried my best to see a dragon, like brother Satoshi, but I just couldn’t see it. 😊 Ohhhh, the chikuwa looked amazing! I love love chikuwa so much! Brother, I do have a question-The Matsutake that you showed for a split second, was harvested near the temple? Did you happen to notice the price? I’m always so curious, because the Japanese imported Matsutake that we find at our local Japanese market is approximately $99.00 USD/Lb. Do you know that you taught me 2 things today. One, what a wharf roach was, and two-I had no clue until you and brother Satoshi spoke about the kawaii omikuji hanging on the matsu, that matsutake came from the grounds surrounding pine trees/forests. I just never put two and two together. 🤦‍♀️ Thank you both for sharing your beautiful road trip with us…..The good and the not so good. I just appreciate your gracious honesty. I cannot wait for part two of your sandbar walk. Take care ne! Odaijini shite kudasai. ❤

The Amanohashidate area was the first place we spent multiple days traveling on the Sea of Japan side. For travelers who visit Kyoto and want to see another side of Japan, the Miyazu area or Kanazawa on the Sea of Japan side are just a few hours away by train.

Thank you both for the Amanohashidate/Ine video. We were trying to book something in Ine, but with the Wharf roaches, we decided not to. We are booking the hotel at the Fairfield Marriott where you stayed at the next day. Playing it safe, don’t need my wife screaming at night. 😅. Thank you for all the tips. Always wanted to go up to Ine, but worry about the long drive especially driving on the right side. Since you both drove up there, it gave us the confidence to do the same. Looking forward to see you guys travel in Japan by car. Also looking forward to see you guys colab with Amanda and Felix in Japan. Thank you both for your adventures and good eats on TH-cam. Looking forward to be back to Japan.

dang I wouldn't be able to close my eyes at all when I knew there were disgusting things like those wharf roaches *shocked*
I actually do have a phobia beeing scared even of butterfly ! (I don't mind spiders though) and when I stayed in Japan I had Cockroaches in my home and there were so many other big insects everywhere which I have never seen in my Country .... was a very hard time for me so I can feel with you.
As much as I love Japan this is really hard for someone who can't stand insects.

26:29 - The 'hole' is the literal meaning for the word in sino-japanese that has a cognate in the Sanskrit Sunya or nil, zero, or Meta: something more, incalculable. Possibility. 空 शून्य. Like Amanohashidate 天橋立 being the place to stand to see the path to(view of) heaven(s)/ platform of the bridge to heaven/sky viewing...

I know how it feels when you see insects, I recently had a terrible experience in the Philippines regarding that. My nervousness and anxiety kicked in, and I couldn't sleep at all. I was trying to make the best out of it after the insect situation that occurred to me right before I was going to bed.

as someone who lives in the philippines, we are so used to geckos, and some flying insects, as long as they don't land on us i don't really mind it. Cockroach where i draw the line, i always ran outside my room whenever a roach flies. Sometimes my dog take care of it, sometimes i goes away on its own.
