Skye is almost offensively epic, thank you so much for letting us join you. I have considered visiting but I find the thought of driving on the left side of the road a little bit scary, might have to reconsider now. Renting a van seems like the perfect way to get around. Also, I really appreciate the dinosaur imitation, really helped me visualize the Jurassic (?) world. 🦕🦖 Can't wait to see what you're going to get up to next time!
Glad to see the place with blue skies. We were there at the end of September a couple of years ago and it was rarely fair, often dreich, and when we went to Dunvegan Castle, absolutely hammering down. Watching the sun drop behind Benbecula/Uist looks amazing. So jealous that you got to fly the drone at Kilt Rock too.

We were travelling Monday-Wednesday so that probably helped! I believe in the summer the island does get busy, but ourselves we mostly noticed that the island fills up around the middle of the day as the tour groups drive in, and mornings and evenings were super quiet and peaceful!

If you visit Orkney, you mite wanna check out Rackwick Bay (paradise) on the isle of Hoy. There is a cool stone bothy there on an amazing beach! The trip there is such a fun adventure too! (Or Birsay's disappearing causeway... check tidal times !) . Shetland has St.Ninians Beach which is incredible.... is a very long trip (even from Orkney) so bring your seasickness remedies and check the ferry timetables ahead of time as I think they run between Shetland and Orkney on alternate days. Up here is very windy so bring your best windgear and enjoy the windswept vibe❤
Armadale is actually my ancestral home, though for a very short time, as the Donald brothers were each given an island in the Inner Hebrides by their father. The story says that the sons were told that they could have whichever island that their hand first touched, so it was a race to the best and biggest islands, and my ancestor got Islay and our clan became the MacDonald's of Islay. It is told that one brother wanted an island so bad that he cut off his hand and threw it on the island he wanted before another brother could get ashore his island. It's sad that Armadale is not open for visitors, I was there about 20 years ago when some cousins got married there, it was early Autumn and they married in the garden, it was very beautiful. I would love to one day move there, but it's very popular and there are very few habitable properties there.
Gods, Skye is beautiful, and I cannot wait to be able to go. And don’t worry, after living in places like Los Angeles, potholes cannot scare me. Trust me, Southern California had the WORST potholes. Worse than any I’ve experienced here in the PNW, or back in the Southern states. 😑 But I will be using a truck most likely. 😂 Is there a particular time of year you’d recommend most for going to Skye?
I am obviously biased towards September as we were so lucky with the weather but I imagine May would also be fantastic! Before full blown summer hits as it gets a lot busier AND in the summer, sunrise would likely be happening at an absolutely ungodly hour, too. Plus, midges!!! So finding that sweet spot where days are still long enough but midges are starting to chill down a bit is probably the best .)

@@Kakibot Challenge accepted! An easy one to apply here, is using Astarion’s metric to know when to visit Skye: “Well, apparently there’s a limit. Somewhere between a nice summer’s day, and the full concentrated power of the SUN!” 🤣
@@sheikahchic One tip is to not go in the winter as a lot of things close because people just don't visit this time of year, and the weather is next level. I know living in the PNW you are used to wet and windy weather, but we're talking gale force winds most days that make the rain into little tiny needles that come at you from every direction.

I know this is probably a hard question to answer, but would you recommend this road trip, or your North Coast 500 road trip for someone who has to pick one?
I think it depends on how much time you have. As much as I would love to have an extra night or two on Skye, I’d say without having to shoot a video, three/four nights would be a good amount of time to spend there! NC500 was a 6 night affair, and I could’ve used an extra night or two on top!! Ideally one would eventually do both, as they are both brilliant! But Skye feels “easier” .)
Lovely vlog but not sure if you know that you don't have the right to park anywhere overnight, you need the land owner's permission. Also the right to roam doesn't apply to motorised activity, the SOAC specifically excludes vehicles.
Yes the roads are a wee bit narrow and there is the occasional pothole. But please don't replace them with double lane roads. This would encourage an influx of too many tourists and completely destroy the beauty and tranquility of a beautiful part of Scotland.
