I just started collecting again and am totally overwhelmed by how often new releases come out. I've decided to focus on collecting my favorite Pokemon across different sets.
Same. I opened a boooster box of each set i likes then focused on getting deals for singles. I simply dont earn enough money to gamble on booster boxes to not even get what i want. Wish i did though i envy people who do it for a living must be super fun!
I'm still working on Evolving Skies, it's one of the few that interest me. But doing so, and seeing how many special cards I'm missing, makes we want to limit myself even more on full sets... I was doing Evolving Skies and Chilling Reign, but idk if it's worth it now for me to try for both. Had I known I would be wanting those sets, I wouldn't have sold off some individual cards from them and put myself further behind lol. So for now it's just Celebrations, Evolving Skies, and if something has CR packs in it, I'll just keep them if new. Once Brilliant Stars releases, I'm sure I'll go through all this all over again haha
Chilling Reign isn’t so bad. Was able to complete a master set with 5 booster boxes and lots of packs from the reprints in all the collections being released. I’m still chasing like 15 cards for evolving skies master set but slowly I’ll get there. Wish you luck my friend!
It’s really interesting. I’d say almost all recent sets are too large to realistically be achievable for most people. But then you have Celebrations in there which is almost too easy to complete. Seems like the Pokémon Company can’t find that happy medium
Great content as always! I started collecting WITH my grandkids (ha! boys AND girls!)... my 7 yr old granddaughter is the most aggressive "collector" of them all. In order for them NOT to get upset when they don't pull full arts or chase cards, I've tried to steer them in the direction of collecting master sets! That way, especially with the younger ones, they still feel a thrill when they open packs that help them complete master sets (even if they don't get any great pulls). So -- this video content was especially great! Also LOVED seeing your binders ;) I'd like to see more!!
About not counting promos in master sets, totally agree! For me I consider a master set to be all the cards that are pullable from booster packs. Anything extra on top of that is just that ... extras/bonuses.
I have "complete" sets of a most of the xy and sm sets, even a good amount of bw sets, but swsh has just been too crazy for me to even attempt getting full arts, let alone alt arts and secrets
I can't really stomach opening Evolving skies anymore. I opened like four booster boxes with my kid and we pulled ONE alternate art (noivern). So we kind of chilled with it for a while even though she is obsessed with the Eeveelutions. Thanks for compiling this information, it's really good to see the breakdown overall and not just in niche cases like mine.
I like to collect Master's sets when the set isn't too big, evolutions being a good example. Most modern sets these days are just too big for it to be worth it.
If you do it the way he said at the beginning buy buying booster boxes and pulling yourself you'll get darn near all the com/uncom and most of the set but I agree there are jus too many sets and big sets so maybe collect masters of favorite sets

I recently returned to Pokemon after spending the last few years in Yu-Gi-Oh! and I was blown away by how large the sets are. I'm more into sealed product personally, but holy moly do I respect the grind that master set collectors have to go through in these modern Pokemon sets.
I can't even begin to imagine building a master set of any sets that come out. I'm personally a budget collector so I get a few products of each set on a budget. Definitely wish I could get the Eeveelution boxes as the arts are some of my absolute favorites in many of the modern sets to come out. Always nice to see how others build their collections as well. I’ve been trying to master evolving skies since day one. You’re ahead of me. I don’t think I’ll ever pull the most expensive cards. It’s so hard to give in and buy singles because it’s so much better to pull it yourself
Thanks for making these types of videos! I was just having the conversation with my buddy about whether I should just focus on hunting singles instead of opening booster boxes to complete my master set. Seeing the comparison is very eye opening.

For me, master sets have always been something of a daunting task. Its just that opening the same set for a long period of time, can cause a set that was once fun to open to now becoming a boring and tedious task. (Or at least to my experiences.) To anyone that does have a master set or is completing a master set, props to you for having the mental capability to keep opening the same packs over and over again to find one specific card. But again, just me. Much love and luck to those completing master set. And much love to Danny for the awesome vid!
Wild how much everything changes but the new artworks have been such insane quality (especially the new eevolution alt arts) that has made collecting really fun

I think the last truly complete Master set I made was Cosmic Eclipse, there are some great arts in Evo Skies but probably wont be dedicating and entire binder to a master. Thanks for all you do Danny!
I completed the Evolutions, Vivid Voltage, Hidden Fates (Shiny Vault), Shining Fates (Shiny Vault) master sets. I saw the set list of Evolving Skies and said no thanks haha. Keep my favorites and sold the others to buy the ones I wanted that I didn't pull. Great video as always Danny! Thank you.
Crazy story. Started collecting pokemon back at the start of Celebrations and decided to go for a master set. I'm now basically 3 master sets in and have yet to pull a Charizard 😭. My sister has offered to give me one but it just doesn't feel the same knowing I didn't pull it myself. The hunt continues! Love the content Danny. Keep on being a positive influence in the community

I started collecting with Evolving Skies and had the thought to collect a master set. Between my bad luck on pulls and bank account, I've decided to give it up. I'm looking forward to Brilliant Stars. I'm also wanting to get those premium collections.
I opened up a few boosters and thought I had enough to start a master set. I collected all the common, uncommon, and reverse, but the ultra rare and secret rares will keep me busy for a while. Will continue to collect this set for a while.

Awesome give away as always. and yeah, I'm currently around 500+ packs into my evolving skies master set and just now pulled the Umbreon Vmax alt art last week. Still have a crazy amount to collection until I'm finish. This master set will probably be my last for a long time after doing Battle Styles, Shining Fates, & Celebrations back to back. The cost is definitely adding up so I'll be taking a break and being a lot more casual. Thanks for all the informative videos!

I started trying to finish my Base to Rocket sets about two years ago; I hear what you’re saying completely because when I started becoming interested around the release of Darkness Ablaze there was a lot of hype for a lot of that year’s sets, but even with hype, I can’t see myself ever trying to complete a modern set (outside something like the celebrations set) because they’re just too big. It’ll be interesting to see if that’s a problem for Pokémon they haven’t consider yet.
With so many ultra rares now it is discouraging to try to complete my master sets. I love all of the different artworks but man it's tough. Thanks for the tips Danny!
I love those eeveelution Vmax collection boxes. My favorite one is probably the Flareon box preferably the Flareon V alt art. That is such an amazing art work.
Havent been able to find those two specific items in fact thanks for bringing it up ;P Incredibly kind and generous to give away so much beautiful sealed product. These giveaways you do are very nice for the pokemon community, however your content is something that is absolutely immeasurable in value. Sharing your breadth of knowledge and opinions has definitely made an impact on the community as a whole. Ive been discussing with other PokeTubers and people in the community a lot about set identity and the incredible sizes of these English sets recently released. Something I feel personally from opening packs is that each set I open basically feels the same because of the vast amount of cards. When all you see are mostly green code cards and if you're lucky a holo or ultra rare and if you're extremely lucky a random vmax. Honestly Im losing the enjoyment for opening packs, maybe its just my luck, but I feel it also has something to do with how difficult it is to collect not just a full set... even just trying to collect a small piece of the set feels extremely difficult.

I will never go for the master set of evolving skies, but I will go for a complete set of the ES alt arts. They are so exciting to pull and I can never go back to pulling normal Vmax/full arts again after I’ve been spoiled to this beautiful art work.
My son and I started collecting master sets. But now it is more of a compromise set. Originally we would collect the entire set and be happy with the secret rares we pulled. I would buy a few singles if they were reasonable. Now that they have so many alt/full arts at the end of the set, it is just impossible. The prices to buy singles is ridiculous as well. I have done the very same thing on TCG Player before (I think chilling reign). It's an eye opener... i asked myself, why do we even open packs? Well, i know the reason... but, it is certainly cheaper to just throw money at the singles.
I gave up collecting masters sets after evolutions. It just became more stressful than fun and seeing all the potholes in my binders didn’t look appealing. I started narrowing down my collecting focus and started looking into smaller sets or themes that brought back joy for me in the hobby
This is super interesting coming from a small collector who does it for fun and tries not to spend too much. I'm hoping when I have enough money again I'll be able to start properly collecting.
Masterset nowadays are very expensive and hassel but it keep you going to get every each card and its a journey that will be remembered. Thank you for all the information showing in the videos!! Keep it going n gotta catch em all xD
Thanks Danny for all the content, I haven't had a chance to work on my master sets of the most recent sets, but I want to get back to it soon. I hope they make the sets a little smaller in the future.
I've been out of collecting for a while so I'm focusing on bulk lots to get a lot of the easier to get cards for cheap, as well as a surprise rare/super rare here or there.
It’s so hard to complete modern sets, however it is fun to try and complete the expansion/holiday sets like Hidden Fates and Shining Legends! Still working on those!
Finally completed my celebrations set. Including promos. Working more on my sealed collection rather than master sets. May change with brilliant stars tho. I'm loving the looks of it

I'm definitely ready for them to make these sets smaller again. At least give people a real chance to pull their own master set

That's some good insight, really puts it out there if it's better to finish a master set through booster pack openings or buying singles.

Why stop with a master set when you can next attempt a reverse holo master set?

This is exactly why I build Master sets. It’s super tough with sets like Evo Skies, but I find they preserve their values very well!

I have a master set from my old collection on Dragons Exalted, one of my favourites. Currently working on my Celebrations one. Love the vids!
Master sets can be a lot of fun, and is a fun thing to do with friends. It's always a blast to trade with eachother

I would buy a few singles if they were reasonable. Now that they have so many alt/full arts at the end of the set, it is just impossible. The prices to buy singles is ridiculous as well. I have done the very same thing on TCG Player before (I think chilling reign). It's an eye opener... i asked myself, why do we even open packs? Well, i know the reason... but, it is certainly cheaper to just throw money at the singles.
I gave up collecting masters sets after evolutions. It just became more stressful than fun and seeing all the potholes in my binders didn’t look appealing. I started narrowing down my collecting focus and started looking into smaller sets or themes that brought back joy for me in the hobby
This is super interesting coming from a small collector who does it for fun and tries not to spend too much. I'm hoping when I have enough money again I'll be able to start properly collecting.

Masterset nowadays are very expensive and hassel but it keep you going to get every each card and its a journey that will be remembered. Thank you for all the information showing in the videos!! Keep it going n gotta catch em all xD

Thanks Danny for all the content, I haven't had a chance to work on my master sets of the most recent sets, but I want to get back to it soon. I hope they make the sets a little smaller in the future.
I've been out of collecting for a while so I'm focusing on bulk lots to get a lot of the easier to get cards for cheap, as well as a surprise rare/super rare here or there.
When I did my evolutions master set it made it seem so easy. Now with the last few sets my binder is sad lol. Awesome video as always 🤘

It’s so hard to complete modern sets, however it is fun to try and complete the expansion/holiday sets like Hidden Fates and Shining Legends! Still working on those!
Finally completed my celebrations set. Including promos. Working more on my sealed collection rather than master sets. May change with brilliant stars tho. I'm loving the looks of it
