I listen to a lot of stoner, doom and obscure bands but I still have to find a band who gets the Sabbath sound, without being a clone. So far, this is the only one.
This album was released November 1993. Mega Man X came out December 1993. Listen to the opening riff from this track, then listen to "Stage Select 1" from MMX. I think one of the musicians in the Alph Layla Group was a Sleep fan. Oh, and the triplet riff at 2:21 is also variated upon for parts of Armored Armadillo's level theme.
Wouldn't be surprised chief! The Occult boom of Japan made them look outward to all revenues of media. A band like Sleep and the topics they sing would've lure in a few Japanese!
Everyone’s saying how this sounds like Black Sabbath, but when I listen to this song, it reminds me of 21st Century Schizoid Man, especially during the solo
@@sonic-excess The album art was drawn by an artist named Klem. He was also a tattoo artist at the same time. I think he might have played in a few bands way back when in San Jose. This was like in the early 90's.
Electric Wizard is as good. Arguably better because they have far more material and more of a range. I'm not making that argument necessarily.. But they are as good.
@@420dopethrone EW was ok when dopethrone came out now their just kinda generic, sleep, fu manchu, and kyuss is what started it off no other stoner/doom band can compare to the greats im sorry.
@@ellavaplatos933 Dopethrone is amazing, Electric Wizard have never been generic, or just "ok", and they are also better than Kyuss and Fu Manchu. lol "the greats".... Kyuss is shit compared to Black Sabbath. and the closest / next best thing to Sabbath are Sleep and Electric Wizard. Kyuss is good though.
@@420dopethrone EW better that fu manchu, and kyuss what are you smoking..? I'm was talking about 90s stoner/doom, ofc nothing compares to sabbath no shit. I'm telling you if you think EW is better than those three bands you haven't been in the scene very long.
I'm as much of a fan of Electric Wizard as I am of Kyuss. I pick up on way more Sabbath vibes from EW while Kyuss has a bit more going in terms of guitar arrangements in my opinion, but they both have great songs to rock out to depending on the mood.
2:16
my body was not ready for this
llamapie24 no shit! Right!
my boy was not ready eather

+Jeffrey Lebowski Have you listened to Uncle Acid & the deadbeats?
+uioz Of course. They're awesome, but they need some more bass, and less treble in my opinion.
Jeffrey Lebowski Yea, that's true. I always crank up the low end on my stereo when i listen to them
+Jeffrey Lebowski what about eletric wizards?
+Jeffrey Lebowski i think "the sword" fits in your description

November 92, not 93
@@yanaigelbfish1568I believe that further supports their suspicions of the similarities between the tracks.

the fucking solo is probably the best thing I've ever heard
Far within the oaken tower
Exists the one with evil power
Magic channeler of earth's frustration
The Druid sleeps in meditation
squeeeeeeeeee..... widdilywiddilywilddily wowwwww... doodilydoodilydiddily wee wow wow
Wow, so many lyrics.

I love Al's raw vocals on this and Evil Gypsy
Yeah he's a bit too shy nowadays tbh
@@jermyhopkisn9654 yea his vocal style is good for Om but some energy in the vocals would be nice for sleep
2:16 of this song is uncanilly similar and has to be inspired like Electric Funeral by Black Sabbath, which is why i love sleep
1:07 you become a changed man after hearing that riff
how does someone... one person dislike this? the power of the riff ain't for everyone I guess
dylan clark they can’t handle the druid
Probably didn't like the riff is almost the same as black sabbath's tomorrow's dream. But me on the other hand, am not picky. Riff powerful

If you like 21st century achizoid man, I highly recommend the live version of "Starless" from 2015 in japan from the same band (King Crimson)
are we taking about the Ty song?
I think the same thing each time I hear this.
this song gave me a chub
Amazing song. My favorite by them!
Very nice band!!!
Seeing these guys tomorrow
That instrumental section in the middle sounds like a heavier king crimson
If there ever was a Sabbath Tribute that wasn't a Sabbath cover this song is it!
Sleep: dude let me copy your homework
Sabbath: ok but change it up a bit so the teacher won’t notice
Sleep:
Slow motion supernaught+21st century schizoid man? I LIKE IT.
A bit of Sleep's musical genius somehow reminds me of Black Flag's Process of Wedding Out ...
Fuck i herd this entire album last night and i was baked out of my mind being elivated by every song and overwelmed by fucking solos shit!
dank music
This song is on my alarm
Shreds starting at 1:09 backwards ,_,
Accept our sacrifice
Gandalf fighting the Balrog
mitici.grandiosi..unici
What a rip-off. I was promised Sleep, yet got none while listening to this.
I did

It's like a wizard, but with more grass...
Wow that first riff...where have I heard that before? : )
He said he came up with it listening to Hole in the Sky.
Dude it's supernaut
this is bassically a supernaut cover
he was fucking around playing hole in the sky and came up with that particular riff so he says lol
"bassically" noice one
Iommatic
Sounds like Black Sabbath meets the Beastie Boys o_O
Stoner Doom Metal :)
+Evan Schatz Yes! I was wondering if that was just me!
Damn, your dead on with that one.
I met Mat pike in 2014 he told me they were also into punk in that time thats why they sound like this
Never realized the Beastie Boys connection. Beastie boys meets stoner metal on this one. Spot on.
Just noticed.. KLEM did the art.. I have a tattoo by Klem...
Klem?

FUCK YA!! MUDBALLS!!
Love stoner music but never liked pot? Do like me some opiates though.
Opiates are really bad, smoke some weed bro
fuck..
