She did not invent the pancake mixs. She was the very first person to have her picture on the box. Nancy traveled all over the country. She did alot for this business. But this company wanted to go to Paris and she said no. She was not going to get on a boat and spend 3 weeks crossing the ocean. So they let her go. She was not a millionaire. But she got to travel. She died from being hit by a automobile. She was 89. Her picture being removed from these boxes and syrup bottles are just plain idiotic. Nancy is one reason why that company excel.
So a woman’s innovation, recipe and ‘spirit’ were used, but her identity, name and real history were deemed irrelevant. It wasn’t the PC phase-out that erased her history; the profiting company did that, by deeming the *individuals* unimportant. "A woman (Nancy Green/ Greene) born into slavery created a recipe that many Americans would likely enjoy. The brand (face) is scheduled to be phased out." But that recipe belongs to Nancy Green/ Greene and her family. PepsiCo, are you all going to phase out that recipe also? I mean, if you want to make things "right" and all. I don't believe the pictures are offensive. That name, "Aunt Jamima" is what is offensive due to several women of color being referenced as such and what that "name" is tied to (slavery)." What is the purpose of removing a face when the same face's recipe is being used as well as the packaging name?" Make it make sense. I can assure you, many people of color were not aware that the "Aunt Jamima" pancake mix is produced by PepsiCo. I am pretty certain that many people of color believed that the "Aunt Jamima" mix belonged to the face of the packaging. Either way, the "fuss" should not be about a picture but, about a recipe that belongs to Nancy Green/ Greene and her family that will still be used by the company, "PepsiCo" which that company has been profiting from for decades.
Who won an Oscar for her performance but wasn’t allowed to attend the ceremony because she was black. It’s time to recognize our nations terrible history with race only then can we move forward. I’m an educator and taught many different history curriculums and I’ve seen some outrageous examples of “glossing over” to justifying slavery to calling slaves “helpers who were just happy to be in America” ntm just ignoring instances like the race riot in Tulsa or the murder of Emmet Till and the acquittals of his killers. America is great because we are still here despite our really messed up past. If we could just acknowledge ALL of it we would be much better for it but this trying to teach our kids revisionist history is indoctrination to American Exceptionalism and its why there’s such a backlash now.

A composite, superficial, fictional image-ambassador could more easily be owned and marketed.

But that recipe belongs to Nancy Green/ Greene and her family.
