That surfer sounded genuinely upset. He’s been through some things. 🥺 Please be careful everyone.

This happened to me in that exact place when I was a teen many decades ago. I was looking out at the ocean standing on one of the rocky areas and closed my eyes for a second . When I opened them there was a wave that was twice my size above me like a big hand that slapped down on me then tried to drag me out to sea. I clawed on the rocks and saved myself. I will never forget how I came within an inch of my life that day. Be careful on those cliffs of Santa Cruz !

Gotta respect the ocean, that north coast waters cold!

Never trust that you know how big the next wave will be.

Yep you just can't call time out if you don't like the way things are going

People wonder why the locals are harsh to inlanders. Please know that the local surfers getting in and out of the water are timing it! We know that we have a very short window between the “sets” to enter and exit safely. If you get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time you can easily end up like this couple. Please watch from a distance and notice the calm before the storm(lull) and the storm(8-10 set waves.) Thx. Be safe

If you can’t swim like a surfer or a seal you don’t belong in most of the waters off this coast anyway. Even wading in the shallows is dangerous on a lot of beaches.

I noticed that a surfer was coming towards the rocks at minute 1:39, just as the man being interviewed is talking about sneaker waves and the danger of being in the water at this time. This would not be my first choice for surfing!

I routinely see people challenge both Mother Nature and common sense on the rocks. Very sad. Thank you good Samaritans.

I’m curious how does being swept out to see kill you?

The force of these waves will put you under if you aren’t a strong swimmer you won’t be able to get up for air in time. Even strong swimmers wear wetsuits that makes you more Buoyant plus you know what to do to swim out of it. Trust me it’s bad 😢

This area of the coast is treacherous Only experienced and equipped surfers 🏄 or ocean experienced swimmers should even go down on this shore. We usually walk the roadway. There are others areas of the coast with calmer beaches

seems to me they were suicidal because not only the obvious danger but for anyone who didnt understand whats obvious the town had even already installed numerous warning signs right there as well...
