I've been so busy this year I haven't had a chance to watch these yet. I've finally got some free time, and I'm ready to watch. I look forward to this series every year!
Box size is by far my biggest gripe with board games. The amount of space some of these boxes take up is ridiculous. I almost sold the Everdell Big Box the day it arrived it was so big.
On thing that is tough for consumers to understand is that box size is determined a lot by the punch boards before they are punched out, not after. Bigger punch boards are cheaper to produce, so it's a cost saving measure, not just marketing.
Tom's been going super fast with all his entries, I think because he wants to mention the people's choice, but it means he's barely talking about his choices! I want to hear more about his choices! I'm not imagining this either. You can see his chapters in the timeline of the video are much shorter
It became almost a tradition to me to watch this videos year after year. Keep the great work! Also, since this kind of videos tend to get a lot of views, wouldn't it be better if the kickstarte link be on top of the description box?
Considering how many games Tom plays, I would say his top 1000 games would all be good games. I play fewer games but still have more than 500 games that I consider solidly good games.
I think this year’s Top 100 list so far holds the record for “Most games that I have never played”. Which is bittersweet, because it makes me feel out-of-the-loop, but also provides me with a bunch of good recommendations.
Zee makes a good point about expansions making games more complicated. I don´t play a lot of gateway games nowadays, but when you do you want them to be very approachable to new players.
When Mike mentioned Botswana was available right now, I rushed to grab a copy, but it seems they have sold out. Quite a bummer, that version looks gorgeous! Great content as always guys. Keep at it!
Love seeing overpower on the list! I hear the community has produced and is releasing a big box stand alone expansion with a different IP but same engine.
Great! Here are mine: 90. OBSESSION 89. MASTER LABYRINTH (1991 version) 88. FIRST CLASS 87. BARONY 86. HADARA 85. CONTAINER 84. TRICK OF THE RAILS 83. CRYTPTID 82. BLUE LAGOON 81. CAVERNA Looking forward to the rest of the list!
People do love to hate on Stonemaier; success breeeds contempt. Scythe is a great game. But i also think theres some credence to it falling out of favor for those who play several games or so because the game becomes somewhat "solveable" to the point of not having to "play" the first half of the game after seeing your setup. Little game in big box is why I also got rid of Vindication and didn't get Foundations of Rome.
my 81-90! 81 The Quacks of Quedlinburg 82 Deception: Murder in Hong Kong 83 Stardew Valley: The Board Game 84 Lost Cities 85 Citadels 86 Skull 87 Azul: Queen's Garden 88 Architects of the West Kingdom 89 BANG! The Dice Game 90 Small World
Tom’s #81 was one I really wanted to play at The Dice Tower West hot games section. It was always being played and I never got my chance. Hopefully this year 2024 🤞🏽
In my opinion Clank Legacy *is* pretty cooperative. It's actually my biggest beef with the game - it sucks when played cooperatively since the obvious strategy is noone purchasing cards to keep the dragon sleeping, it sucks when played competitively since you'll be dying before getting to solve the quests that unlock fun legacy stuff, and it only becomes awesome if the group manages to land somewhere in between (but getting there is 100% a matter of metagaming).
Completely agree. First time my group played it, we had the perfect 50/50 split, but the second time sucked. You can just get to a point where you can basically read the scenario book like a.....book.
My 90-81 90. Cant Stop 89. Empires End 88. Castles of Burgandy 87. Import Export 86. Anno 1800 85. For sale 84. Alhambra 83. Thebes 82. Welcome To 81. Lost Ruins of Arnak
I just played Wonderlands War with the upgraded components and mini expansion, and it was SOO FUN!!! It brought some more life to the game, and the random starting resources from the Tea and Crumpets cards are amazing
I would play it at 4 players and remove one of the locations (just like you would in a 2 player game). Makes for more intense combat. And would never play it at 5 due to the downtime.
My gf got isle of cats 2 years ago and i wasnt sure when i saw the box.ITS ONE OF MY TOP GAMES FOR LIFE so sweet, easy to bring to the table and has a lot of strategy so the best player wins most of the time while we all have fun
Sorry Mike, I went to the arcades in the 80's when I was a teenager, but I never did the pencil trick. Probably because of the type of games I played, but I don't remember any of my friends doing it either.
I think "The People" are going to lag behind your lists because, in general, we might not play as much as you. In my case, I'm still playing some games that were on your lists years ago, but have since fallen off, yet I haven't played them as much, so they're still in my top 75 (I don't have a top 100 yet). It makes since because you all have to keep up with the industry for content, whereas I don't.
I really wanted to get Vagrantsong at Essen this year since they had the German version.... but oh boy: 150 EUR for a game that has a number of components in the box as well as a box size equivalent to 40-EUR-games? I would have paid 80 for this game ... maybe even 90, but 150 EUR? I just noped out of that one ... hard. (For people not familiar with EUR retail prices as well as the box size: The box is the size of non-deluxe base Robinson Crusoe ... standard square and 150 EUR is basically the German MSRP of Gloomhaven.) And yes: I did ask at the booth whether that pricetag was a mistake, but they didn't have a single person qualified and/or allowed to talk about that. :/
Shout out to Dice Town. 4 seperate friends we t to get a copy after i showed this to them, which is hard as its out of print. Just showing the GOT TO HAVE This nature of the game. Excellent.
I noticed too people seemed to have cooled a lot on Isle of Cats over the past year. Have a buddy that was his favorite game, wanted to play it all the time, now he's just like "meh"
Someone explain to me what a ratchet mechanism is…. I’ve heard it multiple times now and I haven’t been able to figure it out yet (must have missed the stream where it was coined)
Wow, i'm surprised Dominations is still o Tom's top 100. I guess I haven't played it much... those goals are SO hard to acheive, and there's SO many cards to choose from ... Also the cardboard wonders are GARBAGE quality. I need to table this one again to see if it deserves a spot on my shelf.
Frosthaven is the game with the highest rating in the top 100 on bgg, its not even close. I think youtubers just dont talk about it much because its a sequel and its massive to get through
I really dont get why Clank in Space fell off. It is way better, hands down. Better rules that fixes a dumb issue of original Clank and people still pick this. It doesn't compute for me
So Mike says maybe it is time to retire Marvel Legendary. Maybe it is time to retire Mike. He rambles on so much longer than anyone else on the Dice Tower.
Always great to see Mike back in the studio!
The GOAT
Agree!
I've been so busy this year I haven't had a chance to watch these yet. I've finally got some free time, and I'm ready to watch. I look forward to this series every year!
This top 100 series will get me through a tough week at work. Thanks, Dice Tower!
I'd love to see a "Top 10 games who's boxes are too big"
Luke Hector (Broken Meeple) and I actually made a Top 10 Big Box games :-D. th-cam.com/users/live4Sp4cZCaKMM
How would we narrow Fantasy Flight down to just 10 games?
Box size is by far my biggest gripe with board games. The amount of space some of these boxes take up is ridiculous. I almost sold the Everdell Big Box the day it arrived it was so big.
@@Piata So you bought "big box" version of the game and was mad it came in a big box
On thing that is tough for consumers to understand is that box size is determined a lot by the punch boards before they are punched out, not after. Bigger punch boards are cheaper to produce, so it's a cost saving measure, not just marketing.
So exited about the whole list this year! Nice to see Mike back. Shame about the sound - a bit too much distortion.
Tom's been going super fast with all his entries, I think because he wants to mention the people's choice, but it means he's barely talking about his choices! I want to hear more about his choices!
I'm not imagining this either. You can see his chapters in the timeline of the video are much shorter
To be fair most episodes last year were 1:30:00 or so too, maybe Mike or zee is talking too long!
I just think I'm faster talking about my choices?
It became almost a tradition to me to watch this videos year after year. Keep the great work!
Also, since this kind of videos tend to get a lot of views, wouldn't it be better if the kickstarte link be on top of the description box?
I'm with you there. The opening music alone brings me joy 😂
No one’s talking about precipitous drops this year. I was looking forward to hearing about some precipitousness.
« you don’t have to own everything you like » waooow those words really speak to me like a wisdom advice Mike Dilizio. Thanks !😊
12:45 Cafe uses the same sort of card covering mechanic as Smartphone! Much much simpler game but quite fun.
The button mashing with pencils was indeed from Track and Field! It made all the difference in the speed at which you could move!!
Keep at it!
While ticket to ride: Europe is a “solid” game (45:40), ticken to ride colon, would also be a “solid” in its own right
Ticket to Ride - Colon
“This train STINKS!”
Toot toot
Thank you for all the content for the year!
I appreciate people who can do videos well and be funny! Sometimes :-)
I so regret not backing Whale Riders because it seems it sold out super fast and now it fetching a ridiculous premium.
Love seeing overpower on the list! I hear the community has produced and is releasing a big box stand alone expansion with a different IP but same engine.
Great! Here are mine:
90. OBSESSION
89. MASTER LABYRINTH (1991 version)
88. FIRST CLASS
87. BARONY
86. HADARA
85. CONTAINER
84. TRICK OF THE RAILS
83. CRYTPTID
82. BLUE LAGOON
81. CAVERNA
Looking forward to the rest of the list!
I thought the pencil trick was an NES thing, didn’t realize it worked on arcade games as well. Figured the buttons would be too tall.
People do love to hate on Stonemaier; success breeeds contempt. Scythe is a great game. my 81-90!

84 Lost Cities
85 Citadels
86 Skull
87 Azul: Queen's Garden
88 Architects of the West Kingdom
89 BANG! The Dice Game
90 Small World
Colour me converted! Been to the kick-starter and donated. Keep up the great work DT 😊
Great stuff guys! I will back soon.
I was glad that planet unknowns Kickstarter was running during dice tower east last year.
Tiwanaku is the favorite game I enjoy playing with my wife.
This wasn't a dirty joke, TH-cam's Algorithm.
Tom’s #81 was one I really wanted to play at The Dice Tower West hot games section. It was always being played and I never got my chance. Hopefully this year 2024 🤞🏽
Great video! I think Mike has the best ten games on this video.

The guys didn't get that Hilmar was going for the correct pronunciation on þingvellir and Níðavellir on the 89
My 90-81
90. Cant Stop
89. Empires End
88. Castles of Burgandy
87. Import Export
86. Anno 1800
85. For sale
84. Alhambra

82. Welcome To
81. Lost Ruins of Arnak
I just played Wonderlands War with the upgraded components and mini expansion, and it was SOO FUN!!! It brought some more life to the game, and the random starting resources from the Tea and Crumpets cards are amazing
It's my #5 and I don't even own it. Such a great game, with a sweet spot at 3 players.
@jdkenada I prefer the higher player counts because it gives more excitement to the combat which I love
I would play it at 4 players and remove one of the locations (just like you would in a 2 player game). Makes for more intense combat. And would never play it at 5 due to the downtime.
OMG I had never heard of the arcade pencil technique! Just TH-camd it! I played arcade games like a sucker!
My gf got isle of cats 2 years ago and i wasnt sure when i saw the box.ITS ONE OF MY TOP GAMES FOR LIFE so sweet, easy to bring to the table and has a lot of strategy so the best player wins most of the time while we all have fun
Race to the Raft wasn’t well received? I just got that for Christmas and I’m loving it!
Sorry Mike, I went to the arcades in the 80's when I was a teenager, but I never did the pencil trick. Probably because of the type of games I played, but I don't remember any of my friends doing it either.
"track and field" was the button mashing game with the pencil :)
I also have Shaolia and enjoy it very much too Mike!
I adore the Dice T.A.R.D.I.S.
Zee you are not the only Witch of Salem fan!! We love it in our home! And I found it in a thrift store in shrink for less than $5!
Storm of untold disturbance...that's the best euphemism for a fart I've ever heard 👏👏👏
Tom you might like the original look of Schadenfreude. Aside from sharp corners on the cards it is aesthetically nicer.
Oh my god! Z is 40 what’s next? 41?
I think "The People" are going to lag behind your lists because, in general, we might not play as much as you. I think "lag behind" is a word I wouldn't use. The people's choice is in many ways a better list, because it's not as affected by "cult of the new".
I really wanted to get Vagrantsong at Essen this year since they had the German version.... but oh boy: 150 EUR for a game that has a number of components in the box as well as a box size equivalent to 40-EUR-games? Once I tried Istanbul the dice game, I decided I don't ever need Istanbul anymore.
To Zee's point about Legendary, I think James Bond legendary is still around
Thank you for the video
Loving these lists. Also Cthulhu Death May Die is too low on the people's list
Did Zee win 'voice of the people' last year?
With how often Zee mentions Fallout has he tried the FFG game with the Atomic Bonds expansion? A lot of solo guys say it makes the game much better.
Zee, when you back in Germany we play Ankh together, GREAT CHOICE:-)!
Shout out to Dice Town.
4 seperate friends we t to get a copy after i showed this to them, which is hard as its out of print. Just showing the GOT TO HAVE This nature of the game.
Excellent.
Got interested as well when Zee mentioned it. There's a revised edition out on GN for $36, worth it?
I would buy a tentacled cat plushy.
Maybe you should take a look at their Kickstarter then...
I noticed too people seemed to have cooled a lot on Isle of Cats over the past year. Have a buddy that was his favorite game, wanted to play it all the time, now he's just like "meh"
Gosh, 10 times an hour and a half for a top 100? One hour and a half vid was already pushing it, but this is next level.
Someone explain to me what a ratchet mechanism is…. I’ve heard it multiple times now and I haven’t been able to figure it out yet (must have missed the stream where it was coined)
It means you can go as far on a path forwards as you want, but you can never move backwards.
What they really mean to call it is "one-way-street".😛
Wow, i'm surprised Dominations is still o Tom's top 100. I guess I haven't played it much... those goals are SO hard to acheive, and there's SO many cards to choose from ... Also the cardboard wonders are GARBAGE quality. I need to table this one again to see if it deserves a spot on my shelf.
Dominations definitely top 100 here!
Ankh is my number 1 2-player game.
My boy Mike!!! 🎉
Planet Unknown is a much better game than Isle of Cats.
Frosthaven is the game with the highest rating in the top 100 on bgg, its not even close. I think youtubers just dont talk about it much because its a sequel and its massive to get through
I hope we can continue to hear about how every game is a modern classic and how terrible the games are in the top 10-100...
Is Zee a father with all these constant dad-joke zingers? :-D
Let Grayson and I do a number next year
😂
I always consider anything post-Catan as a modern classic lol
I really dont get why Clank in Space fell off. It is way better, hands down. Better rules that fixes a dumb issue of original Clank and people still pick this. It doesn't compute for me
Planet Unknown 10/10 woot
Can someone explain the #85 cameo to me?
After all the videos and you should have the top 10 # introductions.
lol at Zee saying that Tiwanaku doesn't look good and then following it up with the bland and ugly Vagrant Song
20:46 cookie clash
Planet lsd. God I love Mike.
Tiwanaku = Minesweeper
ONE WAY STREET!
Ratchet= progress lock? I don’t understand the meaning of ratchet mechanic?
It's a game where you can move on a path. You can go as far forwards as you want on a turn, but you can never go backwards.
55:51 po boys 😂😂😂😂
The small intestine is 22 to 25 feet long. It is ticket to ride: colon that is the short game.
Lord of the rings books would probably be too long, as to why they didn't come out.
So Mike says maybe it is time to retire Marvel Legendary. Maybe it is time to retire Mike. He rambles on so much longer than anyone else on the Dice Tower.
I’m sorry if my presentation style doesn’t work for you. I can’t be to everyone’s taste.
Someone’s butthurt. I love Marvel Legendary but people are allowed to have their own opinions.
@@michaeldilisio557your the best thing that ever happened to this channel- Strong work Mike!
@@michaeldilisio557I think he meant “Retire Mike because he’s Legendary”.
And that's why we love him
