    Literally the reason why the teep or front kick is used is to knock the opponent back when they try to advance. You cant eat rights if you jab your foot into his solar plexus every time he steps forward.

      Hard to teep when you’re already checking the low kick I just feinted

    • @hotsingleplaguedoctorinarea
      @hotsingleplaguedoctorinarea 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The teep is designed to control distance and counter low kicks, or just kicks in general. It's the jab of Muay Thai. It was a big reason why Masvidal was able to dismantle Ceronne in their fight, because he would teep feint into his entries. If cerrone tried kicking, he'd either slam his leg into the raised shin during the teep wind up, or get pushed off balance by the teep if it landed.

      @@coachkajan”checking the low kick I feinted” your feint will have way more of a tell, because your stance.
      You almost self admit this in the video. That you give up some of the leg work with the stance.
      So this answer is kind of silly. Also. If your scenario is you feinting, that means the other guy can be feinting too.
      So it didn’t really address anything imo.
      The other guy explaining the use of the teep. Made a good point.
      Not hating or anything. I’m here learning from the knowledge too.
      But the teep comment made sense. It is the jab of the Muay Thai style

    • @nljacque
      @nljacque 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For muay thai yes, but in MMA if your opponent is a wrestler then you've just handing him easy takedowns if you constantly teep.

    • @trnrred489

      @@nljacque “if” this or “if”. You all can keep throwing in “if” garbage, but the fundamental point that was being argued was still correct.
      So I stand by what was said in the fundamental. You can move the goalpost, but the point didn’t change.

    Seen Poirier do this a bunch. From personal experience, it is just a natural efficient defense. Lifting the leg is more unbalanced and out of position. This allows you to get that front step power/base on the counter also.

    If you have the timing to bring the leg back you have the timing to rotate and check. It’s faster to rotate your hip a few degrees than it is for them to throw a kick

  • @educatedcanadian7408
    @educatedcanadian7408 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    But kajan we do check leg kicks in mma and checking them is best as it discourages them throwing more. Or they could end up like the spider or weidman. Slipping back is dangerous as well due to a fake leg kick being thrown and then they step into a real one, youre definitely gonna feel the second one once youve stepped back. Youre right though, a muay Thai stance is not ideal for mma. Do a video about how alex pereira and izzy changed their kb stances to fight mma and still check leg kicks. Or strickland checking izzy. The check happens often so maybe elaborate on how are they doing it or is that gonna be part 3

    • @coachkajan
      @coachkajan  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Aren’t there other ways to discourage them though? If I slip I can always counter after which will discourage a continued attack on my leg. You’re not wrong that slipping is dangerous as ALL technique is dangerous and there is no attack or defence that does not have a hole in it. You aren’t any safer from a double kick when you check as you will put the leg down once the first kick is defended and surely eat the second.

    • @educatedcanadian7408
      @educatedcanadian7408 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@coachkajan yeah it's happened so you're right. Actually I've been faked on both and landed on after as well. I would like to be good enough to kick their leg forward after they miss but that's hard to time. I guess I'm just used to checking mostly with a boxers stance. Slipping probably better for the take down defensive stance or std mma stance overall. Plus it sets up a step forward for an overhand or stiff jab so I think for that reason the slip actually is better because if you move thst foot forward quickly after they miss it acts like a fake almost because they won't know what you're gonna throw If you're quick enough. Hmm giving me ideas.

    So probably the best idea is to force the right hand, then slip and strike or take down. One thing about good boxers is they don’t mind squaring up in the mid range because it gives them better lateral head movement and counter punches. Sugar Ray Leonard was really good at that, though he have to deal with a bunch of knees or elbows 🙃

      @@coachkajan not using it correctly then. It’s whole purpose defensively is to defend straight punches, hide the vision of your legs so you can teep or rear hand, measure distance, or initiate a clinch
      The weaknesses of the long guard are uppercuts and hooks(if you aren’t fast enough), but you have to close the distance for that usually

Having a good lead teep kinda solves the right hand if not the rear roundhouse/lead switch kick will bt takes timing and drilling like everything else. Checking also squares your opponent for counter attack. Now what happens when they attack the back leg or step in deeper for the lead leg?
