    A second listen is highly recommended. Every song on this album has a distinct character. Not all of them hit you at the same time. But AB is a genius. He has an extensive solo catalog sprinkled with amazing music, his AB Power Trio (amazing), plus a ton of famous collaborations, guest appearances, and side projects. And he’s a very likable and approachable guy. I’ve met him after several shows in Milwaukee, where he hung out at the merch table after shows.

    Definitely continue with the album if you want to hear the full range of his stunt guitar work.

    Belew was one of my biggest influences. I like his albums. My favorite is Desire Caught by the Tail because every sound is made by guitar. And that’s way interesting. But I prefer hearing him with other people. Bowie, Crimson, Talking Heads, etc.

    Belew writes the catchiest pop tunes with the broadest musical palette.
    This has a great hook with some stellar guitar.

      Sharky's day and Sharky's night good stuff! Adrian's played with so many people it's crazy, I've always been partial to his guitar outro on Joan armatradings I love it when you call me names.

    Okay, think about it. The guy in chronological order played with Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, and many many years with King Crimson. So he played with and for Frank Zappa, David Bowie, David Byrne and Robert Fripp who were collectively some of the most creative minds (and inventive minds) of their time. This album as you tried to break down, is I believe an album more for Adrian to stretch out with his guitar sounds than it is a record to feature some jaw dropping songs or complete tracks. I've had and listened to this album for years and I think of it more as a demo like piece. I feel the songs are a bit sounding "unfinished or perhaps not fully realized" but I still enjoy them. My favorite on the album is Momur, you might like that one a bit more-it's more of a complete sounding song IMO.

    Maybe a Genesis to this Song - also in 1982, Director Paul Schrader made a Psychological, Horror Remake, of a famous 1942 Film Noir Movie, called Cat People. David Bowie, Adrian's then recent Ex-Bandmate, sang the Theme Song for the 1982 Movie. Both the Song, the Movie Itself, and the Lead Actress, Natasha Kinski, were all "the Talk" that year. Here, to perhaps the Omega of the Song's Creation, the Video for Big Electric Cat, ALSO featured a similarly Mysterious, Transformational, Femme Fatale.

    Belew will often challenge, but it’s original, innovative, fun, and not boring, and he often rewrites the rules the industry tries to impose. His solo work is underrated by the masses, and maybe that’s the tell of his genius.

    Adrian played this on a fretless electric guitar and drums. I always thought it was just fun while being a production trip. There is backwards reverb on the vocals. Yes, there were 2 sections of backwards drums. I played this for my children in the80s and 90s.

    I know this track for ever. This is so very eno-esk to me, reminds me more of life in the bush of ghosts. As it is a first solo album you can expect there being things that were developed before his crimson time. As for the rhythm patterns you always have to be aware, that Adrian started as a drummer before switching to guitar. You want somethng more crimson like on this album, try Hot Sun and be reminded of industry from 3 of a perfect pair, which came later. Man in the Moon is also a sweet song. Even more crimsonesk you should skip forward to his album inner revolution and its titletrack. Cheers!

  • @-R.Gray-

    This is a good demonstration of what a vintage Foxx Tone Machine guitar pedal sounds like. On "Hot Sun" he demonstrates a whole junglefull of noises made with his guitar. "The Lone Rhinoceros" is a mixture of humour, ecology, and trying to sound like that animal. "The Man In The Moon" is a nice song about his father, and "Naive Guitar" is a dreamy sounding guitar instrumental with Hendrix-like backwards guitar and volume pedal use. There is quite a bit of variety on the solo albums that followed this, sometimes using a lot of guitar synth sounds, sometimes more acoustic.

    • @timfeeley714-25
      @timfeeley714-25 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great song (yes, it takes a few listens) from one of the world's great guitarists. What he can do with an electric guitar is beyond belief. The title track of this album is also a must-hear. He's also an enormous Beatles fan, and his most Beatlesque album, "Here" is a classic from start to finish (and the song "I see you" sounds like a great long lost track from "A Hard Day's Night" or "Help!") - it might be more to your taste, perhaps?

    Steve Martin used to have a skit called How to be a Millionaire. Really fast at the beginning he says first get a million dollars.
    In the 80s Adrian had a VHS tape called How to be an Electronic Guitarist. And my joke was he should have said really fast at the beginning get a ton of effects and a synth guitar.

    The various sounds heard are really interesting as well as the inverted vocal and instrumental sections but the track itself is too repetitive in its structure which makes it boring along the way. There is no melodic hook that would elevate this composition to a higher level. Despite the experimentation, there are hooks and melodies left in King Crimson's 80s trilogy, and that's what's missing here. Hey Justin! About the King Crimson 80s trilogy, wouldn't it be nice if you delved into the albums Beat (1982) and Three of a Perfect Pair (1984) ?😉
