Any reason for the type of boot they are wearing? In Louisiana, USA they are called shrimp boots as shrimpers were them while working the shrimp boats.

In South Africa we also use them for gumboots dance.

We call the gumboots in SA. This type boots are normally used by miners. A type of dance originated in the mines of Johannesburg during apartheid. This type of dancing is called gumboot dance. It consists of stomping and slapping of the boots to the rhythm of a song.
