Do you think the D'Amelio brand is successful or not? Which pop culture girl icons should we analyze next?
Doja cat!
@@kumariprativa1632 icon!!
Ariana grandee
No I don’t think it was successful if the scale is 1 to Kardashian. I despise Kardashians and Jenners but I can’t pretend they didn’t make an impact on the culture. Kardashians have always known who they are and have capitalized on it, the D’Amelio brand is so random. They simply don’t know who they are so they just thrive on cash grabs. Sadly in 2 years no one will care who they are.
Whose brand?
I’ve never understood why Charli didn't focus on selling dance-related products. It seems like a natural fit that would align perfectly with her brand.
I was thinking that too
That’s literally what I was thinking
She's a teenager who doesn't know any better and probably just listened and did what people told her to do was gonna be a good idea.
Yeah the whole coffee thing caught me off guard...
@@Airahar She's 20 years old now.
They're parents are def pushing the two young girls to be celebrities for themselves, which is pretty sad.
Their*
Sometimes, you have to capitalize on your 15 minutes of fame. With all the money they’ve made, they could just quit and live comfortably.
This is true now, but Charli blew up on TT before their parents even knew what TikTok was…
@@peterparker2068funny thing is that her parents were already rich lmao. They became too greedy.
Kardashians became famous before social media. The only way we could see into their lives was by watching their show. Now everyone posts everything on TikTok. There’s no need to watch a show.
I remember kinda enjoying the show when it felt like this obscure thing that you saw in secret cause it was cringe to admit it. Then they blew up like a virus and became actual business people and took over everything. It’s just uncanny. They were ok when it was just the show but I did not need this much Kardashians crap.
the kardashians still have a show and thats because they dont post so much on tiktok, meaning even if you wanna see whats up with the karjenner clan, their instagrams can only take you so far
@@auliamate which in itself is a clever strategy business wise. You don't want to wreck your show's viewship numbers by over saturating the content on social media platforms.
Facts
@auliamate Yeah but people post so much about the Kardashians and the show that most people needn't watch it
It's sad how people don't realize how much people use pretty privellage
Bullshit
It is mostly just celebrities.
They’re pretty? To me and this is seriously not hating but they are the very definition of “plain jane” to me they look extremely basic and plain. Nothing special unique exotic or stunning about their looks they look like the average girl to me.
its sad that people are so shallow and superficial they raise people just for being pretty.
@@vixxexo6855 not true, it can be a non celebrety person. pretty privilege is everywhere
Pretty privilege is so ingrained in society we don't even realise what's happening so we end up asking questions like 'why are these people famous?' when we were the ones that gave them that fame in the first place 🤦
Edit: I realise this isn't everyone but it's still a lot of people who are the ones liking and sharing these videos and honestly it's reassuring that not everyone just likes/shares because of someone's face so we was more of a majority (sorry for any confusion)
not we :0
@@ogshaynanigans says the one that clicked on a charlie damelio video
It happens in every society so, it probably has little to do with society. A society, maybe, could be engineered to be anti-pretty but, it would be like a society that rejects most sex (think Victorian England) - it will still be around in less ideal forms.
Not ALL of us. IDGAF!
@@gregtaylor9806 victorian england - have very nice booty wearing...I mean at least depict on movie like pride or prejudice? Dont seem so they are anti sex, some still get pregnant before married type of scenario
This proves that when your pretty, good AND bad things can happen to you.
Nah, the money they have outweights the hate. Also they only are hated bc they are too greedy. No human being should be allowed to have this much money, everyone who has it should give it to charity. Studys prove that quality of life doesnt increase when people earn more than around 100 000 k a year and other studys show most rich people just become selfish and arrogent.
They’re pretty? To me and this is seriously not hating but they are the very definition of “plain jane” to me they look extremely basic and plain. Nothing special unique exotic or stunning about their looks they look like the average girl to me.

@@alyzak.8997How about reading my comment and realizing that I didn’t call anyone pretty privileged?
Whats the bad thing bruh
America is sooo deep into consumerist thinking that "authenticity" is perceived in relation to building a brand.
100% These people need to touch grass for real.
You are right building a relatable brand is an oxymoron as you get richer you are less relatable success will destroy your brand.
It’s most of the world at this point. It’s easy to put it on just America, and it certainly applies, but to name a few, Western Europe, China, South Korea, Canada, Australia, etc, aren’t really any better.
The thing with Charlie damelio is the girl got famous for dancing and clearly likes to dance and that’s mostly what she comfortable doing so why is her team having her do everything and come out with everything that doesn’t cater to what she does girl could literally make herself known in the dance world she can be a backup dancer for somone she could be a judge on a dance show she could have products that cater to dancers like dance clothing and shoes but it’s like the rest of her family wanna leech off so they just have her doing everything so they can benefit
If she just focused on a clothing brand with active wear and actually put effort into it then she would actually have something to her name in ten years. The issue isn’t exactly the relevancy to her, I think it’s just that it shows when they aren’t passionate about a brand

during her peak in the quarantine era, she was literally everywhere. I remember being in grade school and my friends would come into class with her dunkin' donuts drink 💀like she was so influential and looking back I still don't understand the hype
People are drawn to trends.
It's insane to hear this because as big as she was, she never came across my feed. Not once. It was only when the controversy of the artist whose dance she didn't credit that's when she popped up.
Frr i never got the hype. She wasn’t even on my timeline when I had social media. I didn’t agree with the huge hate she was getting but I also didn’t get the love. Then again I feel like I’ve missed/not understood the hype of most influential teenage creators like Emma chamberlain either.
ikr i never got how she was so popular
There is a Brazilian youtuber called Luba. He said something I'll never forget. "On TH-cam(internet), people come for your content and stay for your personality." People with inate pretty privilege usually don't have that much of a personality.
"People with inate pretty privilege don't have that much of a personality" Somehow, I feel this statement is a little off...
@@parko1130 Agreed, that seems pretty judgemental to me
I think its that esp w the internet, people who are more conventionally attractive just get more attention on their looks whether they have a personality or not, there’s pretty people who understand this and realize there’s more capital in just being pretty so they dont show their personality online and keep it more private. The internet loves to tear down pretty people when they try to be anything other than that anyway so why put your character up for slaughter
There are plenty of attractive people who are plenty charming and filled with personality. Charli and co are just konda meh in terms of personality.
More like "ppl come for looks and stay for personality". This is a fact
We complain about pretty privilege and give pretty privilege simultaneously. How funny!

Dawg we know she's white why do black ppl.... Nvm
and thats a bad thing ?
feels like the problem started when she veered away from her brand, dancing. She did a bunch of things not related to what got her famous in the beginning. People were following her to see her dance, not talk to her parents at a cafe over her lack of interest in the industry. It's like Mr beast stopping making over the top videos and turned his channel into a celebrity documentary channel. Different audience.
exactly why Lilly Singh's talk show is so awful - they gave a LATE NIGHT show to a comedian whose main audience was children.......
Fun side story, I had the same laundry jingle at my house and years ago when I was preparing for my music history exam, I learned that jingle is actually a song called The Trout by Schubert, and it was going to be tested on my exam 🤣(luckily I had heard it millions of times so I already knew the notes by heart)
OK. I admit I enjoyed your side story here.
the girls were doing so good on their own, ppl already like them at the start. its their parents thats ruining their career, they somehow wants to be famous too, so when they learned that their children were famous, they created their own channel and squeezed themselves with the girls. the parents WANTED to be the next kardashians, even tho the girls clearly is not on board with it
My biggest flex is that i don’t have tiktok and was never obsessed with charli
This wasn't about them being beautiful. In this era relatability is what sells. These girls are just relateable to the average white girl.
They're semi-good looking/average which most girls are which makes them not threatening.
That's why they're famous.
-I'll be honest I've never seen these people before.
Lol same. I never had tiktok so I missed the crazy XD
I didn’t want to say it but yes, they weren’t that pretty. Just average, relatable attractive
yep, i don't he get why people keep saying it's because they are beautiful when you can easily find more beautiful people on the internet
I like how these videos are filmed, theres a ton of negative space which theoretically means its framed poorly but the edits take up the space so perfectly. These are so interesting to watch and i just think its all really well done.
Man nowadays the words “pretty privilege” really makes me mad, because obviously being pretty doesn’t mean that everything you accomplish in life is because of that. But it’s always annoying when someone gets the world because they’re pretty, it just makes the whole statement worse
She isn’t pretty she was just rich, there’s a difference
oh i know right?
the way this person said 32 million dollars of pretty privillage and she still messed up
tf?? does she believe acting / modelling is all about being pretty? sure she got those deals thanks to her looking wonderful , but that young girl must have worked hard with all those shows , people dont see all that
@Study_with_txt seeing how many times some actors are pretty but suck... pretty privilege us still a major factor no matter how well they do the job. There are a plethora of better actors but because they aren't "pretty" won't make it big. And to deny this is to be incredibly naive
@@de5072 but to consider that a person's entire life and status is simply because they are pretty?
its wrong , absolutely wrong
to consider someone's pretty face to be the only sole reason behind their success is riduculous
I guess you’re young and just discovered pretty privilege, and that you don’t have it.
I don’t think they should be hated for complaining about being famous and their line of work. They were young teens when they got and famous and they wouldn’t have understood what bad could come from being famous and online. Their parents exploited them for money and the two girls had no say. It’s really sad.
Totally agree with you!
Honestly, complaining about being famous is a legitimate thing tk complain about. It really does have serious drawbacks. Everyone will be watching and judging you, one slipup and you’re criticized, mocked, or harassed. People want to hang out with you because your famous, not because they like you. And since your famous, and probably rich too, your life will be in danger, you’ll need bodyguards shadowing you.
agree, they probably still feel like normal teens, this fame just came to them and now they just gotta take life as it comes. Its very fortunate they have this opportunity but sometimes people dont always wanna take advantage of it
As someone who lost like 50 pounds (but is still considered overweight, however it’s distributed in a flattering way, so some people don’t realize) and started learning how to carry myself better, pretty privilege is really gross at its core lol I’ve seen how people treat me better just from losing some weight, and it’s discouraging. Granted, I’ve done a lot of self-work, so that could also be attracting people to me more, but it’s clear that I get more opportunities than I used to, even if they’re much smaller in scale than this. I don’t blame people for utilizing every advantage, besides it’s the fault of others for making it an advantage (if that makes sense). But even when you’re pretty, you have to be somewhat interesting because there will always be someone prettier, or the idea of pretty will change completely.
Obesity will never be pretty, no matter how hard some people try to force it down society’s throat…
They lack substance
I saw a deep dive video on alllll the random shit the Kardashians did just trying to find something to stick before they gained traction, and it's like they took a page out of their book hoping they'd have the same outcome
its very funny to me how they took every step in the kardashians handbook but forgot the years and years of public relations and brand identity the kardashians have been working to maintain lmao
I honestly don’t know why her team is not letting her dance and sell things dance related, she clearly loves to dance and is pretty good at it, pretty privilege can only get you so far before people get bored of watching you
What's upsetting other than mediocre people doing really mediocre if not shitty things getting this rich - is that they can fuck up , be totally insensitive to others and still worth the same amount of money. WTF
I can say that Charli did what was right regarding the skincare line. In the reality TV show, Charli mentioned how she tried it on her skin and was breaking out, so she didn't want to be this fraud. One thing I can say was she, for once didn't listen to her PR for a cash grab. The music thing between the sisters was dumb because she made one song and left it just another cash-grab thing for her, while Dixie actually took it seriously.
the laundry noises caught me so off guard because that's exactly what my washing machine sounds like 😭was wondering why the washing machine was going off at like 6am in the morning when i hadn't put anything on
😂😂😂😂
I have the same noise for mine 💀
@@fiona_137_mullican lmao, love our singing washing machines
2:52 billie eilish is not a self made artist , her parents are both big in hollywood!
That and her brother makes her music lol
@@alexconnor3368 Her brother only really got popular because of her though. Otherwise I think he would have at least taken longer to gain traction himself.
Not to mention that, during covid, their family went on to have parties when everyone was in lockdown. I think they said something like “oh, we just need a break” FROM KEEPING OTHERS SAFE??? They literally suck and it’s so sad that Charli or Dixie never learnt their parents predation on their success and didn’t separate themselves from their parents to make their own careers. They’ve yet to grow up, despite having success at such a young age
If I was her, I'd be ecstatic. She massively capitalized on her moment to make money that none of us will ever see. Who cares if she's not relevant or in demand now? She's still extremely young, she could retire tomorrow and live her life without stress going forward.

Even if not that attractive, being born into a wealthy family not only opens the doors of opportunity, but the gates of opportunity . Thank you so much for starting this series! I found the branding topic very interesting! Looking forward seeing the next episodes!
what do you mean it failed her? She's still rich and successful, so is her entire family
She’s becoming irrelevant and I assume in the next ten years she’ll be forgotten about. Which is somewhat depressing
She failed in the sense that her family desperately wanted to become like the Kardashians, but she's still successful and wealthy in her own right. This family was clearly already well off before her rise to fame, so there's a lack of an "underdog" story that most fans crave, but she's still relatable to young girls from similar backgrounds. Rising to fame through an app, seemingly overnight, is the new "American Dream" and makes fame seem easier to obtain to the average person compared to how it was even just 10 years ago. Internet celebrities 10 years ago were NOT the same as they are now.

With the amount of money they've accumulated, they can just have a solid wealth management company build their wealth annually and live off of that. They can easily do basically whatever they want now if they limit their lifestyle to upper middle class instead of needing to live like the top 1%. Given they talk about not wanting to work anymore, this seems like the best case scenario for them. Only thing they would need to focus on, is maintaining purpose for themselves
I loved hear about your perspective about them. Personally, I just know them as the "oh that walmart rich girls" (and for the user research: I'm from Brazil, woman, 27 years old). And talking about brand, I enjoy how your channel is changing as you grow up with consistency. I mean, I'm here since the exercise routine and healing diaries, I see how you matured about how you talk and film. xoxo
just gave her marketing team sooooo many better ideas
This is such a good concept for your channel!
I honestly do have a lot of empathy for them being so young and not even intentionally trying to get famous. It just happened. And then it spiraled and now all of the sudden you’re a teenage girl, who we all should know people love to criticize the most, who had millions of people watching you and judging you. I cannot imagine how hard that is and although they obviously have had perks to being famous, judging by how Charlie is slurring her words at 6:49 (among countless other examples I may list later), she is not doing well. They need to have people around them that will keep them grounded and find a balance of things and obviously they don’t have that. Their parents seem to relish in their daughter’s fame and have lost sight of their kids’ well-being.

This may not be considered a celebrity, but maybe do a video about Victoria's Secret and how their former CEO/rebranding killed the company. I’ve only ever heard of this family, but I just pity them. Being so young and stuck in an echo chamber of a team only interested in a Kardashian style quick profit and clicks is what has screwed them. Not liking escargot (what the home chef made them), crying from internet hate, and being annoyed with your siblings sounds like very normal young celebrity issues!
