Hi Dan - Man, I love that little tape recorder! Guess I was about 8 or 9 years old when I got one of those suckers. I had so much fun with mine, making tapes of my relatives! Never kept the old tapes, too bad. At a hamfest about 15 years ago I bought a never opened shipping box for $5. Couldn't tell what was inside. When opened, there was one of these recorders, still in the plastic sheets and unused for 50 years. I kept that in my game room for maybe 5 or 6 years. Never pulled it out of the box or tried to see if it worked. Loved it just as it was when they were sold. But didn't have enough space to keep it anymore and sold it, I think $35. Should have kept it. Oh well. Enjoyed seeing yours, sure brings me back! See ya -- Atco

I've got a bunch of these old tape recorders. I was in grade school back in the 60's when these were sold and wanted one so badly... eventually I got a Ross, not as small as this. I have one like this as well. Now I've got quite a few. What I find interesting is how many of these are available like new in the original box. It's like people got them as gifts, tired of them quickly and put them away for decades. One of mine seems to have been used for recording some sort of meeting, it's surprising how clear the sound is, the tape probably was recorded several decades ago and the recorder plays it nicely. One of my favorites is a Global Globe Corder GT-101, it's mint condition and beautiful. Global made really neat looking electronics... vintage-technics.ru/Eng-Globe-Corder.htm

Thanks for the demo. I just picked one up and this was helpful.

You put the mic far too close to the unit. If you had put some distance between it and the machine, we would have had a better idea of the fidelity of the recording. Great little gadget.

Very cool little machine for the era.I’m sure the Beatles would have apreciated each having one of these on the road as they were always worried that they would forget their ideas for a new song after they went to bed!

I have one of these. Best rim drive I’ve ever messed with.

Maybe if plugged in directly to a music source it would sound maybe 2.5% better rather than holding the microphone up to a radio.

Cool. I have a couple of tape recorders like this but they are capstan drive.

Definitely a cool video. I think maybe the biggest issue you may have with this is a dirty pot for the speed control, and I'm also wondering if your batteries aren't perfectly charged. If you had a regulated power supply on there and cleaned the speed control, I'm sure you would probably get a better result for pitch. However, for voice, it was perfect for its time. I love this video. Very cool unit. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for watching. You're probably right about the speed pot. I actually checked the batteries before starting the video and they checked in the green, but closer to the bottom of the green than the top so maybe I should have put fresh ones in.
