    Flying a VeronDeacon at my local RC club I overhead one of the guys say 'Why would you want to build and fly something like that with all the models you can buy from Hobbyking'. Lol ... they just don't get it. Fantastic model and some lovely flying.

      Michael Quinn thank you. It is so much more rewarding flying something you have built from scratch.

    Those old timer designs were so graceful looking .I like how you used the metallic silver in the color scheme!

      triskellian thanks, although you need to be careful where to put the receiver as the silver metallic covering interferes with the signal

    How do I get a hold on one of these old timer designs? Are these kits or ARFs? I love IT! Need something I can fly in smaller fields since WV is almost devoid of flying sites.

    Very nice indeed John - has inspired me to get on with refurbishing the used one I have - and with electric. I notice you have a non-original third u/c strut - mine needs this as it wobbles a lot on the very narrow u/c as it enters the fusekage. Do you have any pics of how you added this strut? Thanks if you can.

    • @SlopeRCGliders

      malctube61 thanks, the double diamond does fly well. I have since sold the plane but will see if I have any photos of the undercarriage. Although the way I had it wasn't perfect either, on a heavy landing it could still be a little weak. It was hard to get right with the narrow lower fuselage.

    Howdy John, some years ago, I fell in love with the little videos of your Double Diamond. I am happy to say that I am finally in the process of collecting material & parts to build one. It will be powered by a 5060 400kv motor on 6S. I have a few questions that will u can help me out with.
    1.. did you change or add to the spar and web arrangement in anyTheme the plan a bit flimsy.
    2.. Do you have any photos showing the battery compartment and your access to it?
    I would certainly appreciate your help with these details.
    Cheers
    Michael Chorney (Australia)

      Hi there Michael,
      I sold this model about 7 years ago so can’t remember everything about it. I built the wing in one bit for strength and lightness. The wing was really big as one part but I was lucky enough to live next to flying field, so didn’t need to use my car for transport.
      Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of the battery tray but it was accessed through the hole under the wing. It meant taking the wing off every battery change, but because of the unusual shape of the fuselage and the short nose there isn’t really anywhere easy to make a separate hatch. There is plenty of room to get your hand inside the fuselage from under the wing.

    What motor and electrics set did you use, made a real nice job of that :-)

    • @SlopeRCGliders
      @SlopeRCGliders  9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks! Its got a low kv OS motor in it. Can't remember exactly how many watts. But it runs on 4 cells, throwing a 16" prop. It will take off easily on half throttle and flies for about 45 mins on a 5000mah pack.

      edilson ozorio I bought it as a kit from the Ben Buckle website. If it's just plans you are after look on Outerzone. They have plans for a Diamond Demon. My model is a double sized Dimond Demon.

    • @fredtedstedman
      @fredtedstedman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John , I have gone over to boats (I've just started my 9 th .) and we've all used electric for years . I put the noise of i/c in the same category of 2 stroke trail bikes-the bane of many a sunny afternoon (If you're not taking part , but listeneing from your garden , it is intrusive noise .)
      I haven't gone brushless yet , but the power available is enormous . Why wouldn't you , as you say it's like having an old house and not having electric !

    • @SlopeRCGliders
      @SlopeRCGliders  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      fred Ted Model boats are a lot of fun. I’ve built a few boats in the past but haven’t got any at the moment. I used to live on a houseboat (an old RAF rescue boat) and I’d use the model boats straight off the back. It was moored in a saltwater creek which was horrible for corrosion on the model boats. I even flew model seaplanes from the back of the houseboat. The plane in this video was filmed a few years ago in a field just a short walk from the houseboat. Now I live just a short walk from the cliffs, as seen in my glider videos, so only fly gliders now.
