RIP, Dame Edna and Lauren Bacall. I saw Ms. Bacall in the live stage musical "Woman of the Year" in the early 1980s. She was magnificent, and I still have the soundtrack of the show on my iPod. And Dame Edna was certainly one of a kind. Barry Humphries perfected that iconic character.
What an extraordinary talent Barry was. So gifted and to think a lot was ad-libbed. A rare and unique satirist, raconteur and comdedian sadly passed away yesterday. Barry's body of work will live on. We Aussies are honouring one of (if not the) finest talents in his genre of entertainment. 🖐❤🇦🇺🐨
Oh how classic. Dame Edna just magnificent and Lauren Bacall, Bazza and Tom Jones. Just classic comedy and hilarious. Thank You Dame Edna. God Bless and Rest Your Soul.
Dame Edna...You simply must come out of retirement to make one appearance in 2021. I never laughed so much as when seeing you, and the world is in need of your humor, even with so much taking place now.
I totally agree with what you said ! Dame Edna totally outshines whatever celebrity he is interviewing !! 😘❤ I've only recently discovered how brilliant Dame Edna is !! It's a shame Jeffery Humphries is the age he is, because I wish we had many more years to enjoy him !! He's a one off !! So talented and extremely funny !! I find his talent so attractive !! 😘❤
unique and the bringer of joy ..lights up the place ..gorgeous talented and once seen never forgotten ...that gem of a person will be truly missed ..Thanks for posting .
i've been looking all over for this episode the snake bite story that made lauren bacall so enthralled at the very beginning and ended up bursting out in laughter was just brilliant.
The funniest thing was that Dame Edna was sending up Margaret Thatcher, with That Wig. Remember how Edna used to say her best quality was compassion!? When Barry performed in North England, they really got the joke and screamed with laughter. But irony is often lost on people. He was almost too clever, especially for some in the US, when he quipped about Hispanic gardeners. He actually had to apologise in Vanity Fair for that. We just don’t recognise our own xenophobia. What a priceless gift he was to the world. One reviewer called Dame Edna a middle class housewife with the instincts of a shark. Isn’t it wonderful to laugh at ourselves.
I wanted to see how Ms. Bacall would react to the Dame Edna Experience. I think they're evenly matched, don't you? :D Kudos to Tom Jones. No lip synching. Just talent. What a unique finale!
I could not get over the possible chemisrty between Tom Jones and Lauren Bacall. The hotness of Tom Jones and the coolness of Lauren Bacall...file it under the things that should have happened but never did. Darn! Dame Edna, you're a hoot.
@@LizaFan 65?!... Amazing. And I honestly find her more attractive at this stage of her life than ever before...and her personality is so appealing!... What a wonderful woman...
Entertaining show as always with Dame Edna. Incredible talent to maintain that consistent energy. Tom Jones' song used a recorded backing track by the sound of it (backing vocals, much bigger orchestra than what was on stage) Doc Holloway from the Carson show after it finished.
Oh my those jokes of hers were truly nasty in 1989. She is a comedic phenomena, what a brilliant wit and master-(mistress?) of comedic timing. And for all the Brits and the Aussies who claim that Americans are not capable of understanding her humor, this American continues to be absolutely delighted by her intelligent irreverence and brash persona, POSSUMS.
Yes. Lauren was leaning forward to listen to Edna's every word in a previous performance. This may also be due to hearing loss. Bacall totally gets it and wants more. She would also acknowledge the character development and acting on stage for all those decades prior to even this. Lauren would know talent when she sees it. Imagine if she were on one of those crappy reality TV shows now. She'd nail it.
@@CelineOracle That joke surprised me. Although Dame Edna thrives on living on the edge ( of PCdom etc., and is not slave of good taste, bless her) he would certainly have been aware that LB was of Jewish descent. He wouldn't get away with saying anything remotely like that now, not in the UK at least. For me Dame Edna is a comic genius. Unique spontaneity for most of his gags, off the cuff with mega stars, she loves to put them in their place. I'm watching a lot of DEE at the moment, as a resite from lockdown.
@@maelughran6981 but Lauren Becall wasn't offended but she's from a time when people still knew how to have a sense of humour and enjoy a joke Not allowed these days

What an amazing show and ending.
Every show he's on, he's in total control of the script. These shows aren't conversations. They are his scripts... pure brilliance, really.
