Mike Pritchard is a forgotten man and probably the most amazing player to play at Colorado... he proved it 4real the next year when they won the title...
This is such a great watch! As someone who was born in 1982 I was "just old enough" to watch and appreciate Colorado's rise to national prominence. The fact I am a lifelong ND fan only adds to the connection with the Buffs around this time. As it is, I loved it when Colorado was a true national player. The Buffs and Kansas State were always, and still to this day, the Big 8/12 teams (former in CU's case) I pull for. Their games against Nebraska were must watch events, Folsom Field is an incredible place for a big game, the setting overall is awesome, Ralphe, the uniforms etc. The foundation is there but the administration seems extremely apathetic towards football at this point....
I believe this was the best CU team of all time. This was their only close game that entire regular season, they were just not primed for the big stage of the orange bowl.
Let's face it tho, Notre Dame was off a national title with a loaded team that year. A lot of people thought that they should've been champs and not Miami.
@@ryanyoung2678 What did not make sense was that Miami accepted a Sugar Bowl bid instead of staying home to play Colorado for the National Championship.
The Gospel According to Mac was riveting and has me fascinated by 80s/90s Colorado. Amazing how Bill McCartney took a garbage program and turned it into a powerhouse and Champion loaded with NFL talent. Manufactured a rivalry with Nebraska and designed one of the all time classic uniforms...a program that then dropped off after he resigned and left coaching for good.
Wow, forgot about Gdowski... at one point he had the record for most yards per game by a Nebraska player. He was an astounding talent that came into the season unheralded and broke a bunch of records. While many of those records were broken by others over time, I don't think anyone broke as many in one season as he did. His wikipedia page is woeful, I'm going to work on it tonite.
Nebraska not running up to the line and spiking the ball with :45 sec left took another 15 sec off the clock before they snapped it again. Thats 2 extra plays
Remember in an option offense you can be playing defense well and on the next play you make a mistake and bam six points. A lot of defensive coordinators say playing vs an option offense is one of the most difficult offenses to play against
WOW I listened to this game on a Saturday from work in Denver what a game this I'll never forget it. Love You DAD
Gerry Gdowski--the dreaded "Polish Rifle." He is one of my favorite old time Husker QBs. He was very underrated.
One of my favs also. And Bruce Mathison.

This was a great game. Just a knock-down drag out between two of the top teams.

I was glad to see Colorado go undefeated and win the Big 8 after watching Nebraska and Oklahoma completely dominate the conference for years.

@@ryanyoung2678 Aww well Miami killed ND that year so The Hurricanes deserved it
Ryan Young nobody thought Notre Dame should have been national champs over Miami, Miami kicked their ass that season.

I was there. I sat next to Darian Hagan's mom and almost broke my neck on my way to the field at the end. I was a high school senior. What a day!!!
Almost broke your neck? Please fool.

The two no calls for blocks in the back on returns and the brutal PI call in the endzone basically gave the game to CU (And no I'm not a Nebraska fan)
Ken Clark R.I.P
I miss big time football at Folsom Field.

Ralphie, says----" I did what you said for me to do. Now feed me my food. Plus some cool water."
Such a dumb move. To point UP for what, to signal you are number one for one play. Dumb.
So sweet
Thankfully Colorado won the Natty in 1990 cause getting to the Orange Bowl unbeaten in 89 and losing pretty bad to ND was a bad ending to season.
"Sal's almost dead. Go big red"
No doubt Nebraska is red but brook berringer is dead off go his soul let's go black & Gold !! 😂
Brooke berringer is dead off his soul " GO BLACK & GOLD " right back at you
RIP Bill McCartney
Running the same shit over and over again.. Option after Option
