The only reason you feel like girl groups sound the same is that you don't really know and listen to them as much so they all become a blur in the end. They really don't sound the same lol. At least not more so than the boy groups do.

Ngl I also think girl groups mostly sound the same TvT well not the same, but quite simillar. like Twice and Red velvet or Aespa and G-idle, mostly the reason why I got to boy groups more cuz I remember thier songs more clearly than girl groups. Don't get me wrong tho, i don't hate girl group songs, but most of their songs are, soft? Or has this soft tone that makes it hard to recognize or remember their songs. it's just preference I guess. I did listen to a lot of them like Itzy, twice, girls generation, etc., they kinda went by like a blur honestly. Except Black Pink tho, thier songs are a bop and has really strong hookers😩💕

Honestly I think they were trying to do the VS with the lesser known girl groups by choosing similar sounding songs (simlar concepts and/or vibes) on purpose. A lot of these matchups had certain themes (like produce boygroup vs produce boygroup, sm collab girl group vs sm collab boy group, etc) and for those ggs the "theme" might have been their similar sound. Idk, just a guess.
