If anyone is wondering, by mile 6-7 your legs will go numb. Mile 7-14 your not even sure if your feet are moving anymore. 14-end not that bad by that time you just kinda accept it. Passed 4:26 🤘
I’ve never rucked more than 10 miles (since basic). But I’ve been training for the 18.6 miler. So far the longest I’ve rucked has been (Airborne shuffling) 7 1/2. This Saturday I. Will ruck in the local 10K race. But i plan to start 30 minutes before the gun time to add on distance to my ruck. I’m rucking the race because I traditionally run the race each year. So this will be a new experience for me. Anyway, I plan to do the upcoming Norwegian ruck on April 6. Hopefully I’ll be able to get in 10 miles this Tuesday before the ruck day. To help prepare myself, I do leg strength training before I ruck. I don’t have the time to get in a ruck pass 10 miles. So I appreciate your sharing that we don’t have to ruck extensively to pass. I’ll keep you all posted on my experience.
Thanks for posting! I am planning to try this out myself in CCC after seeing all of you guys crush it last summer at FWW. The video was a great overview and motivator.
Just found this video by chance and it brought back memories. For many this march is a huge mental test as well as they really need to push themselves very hard to make it and I am more impressed by the ones that need to fight their own mind very hard to manage to push themselves to pass it, than the ones that do it in a good/decent time but could have done it faster if they had pushed themselves harder. The Norwegian army also demand that you are fully fit for military service the day after to pass the test, so it can at times be a mental test the day after as well. This march/test is something that all soldiers in the Norwegian army are expected to pass. I have done this test/march many times and my personal best is 2 hours and 42 minutes, but that is many years ago now. One I served with, did it in 2 hours and 21 minutes, but many have done it faster than that as well. When I did mine, we always had to use army boots and having our assault rifle attached to the ruck, but I think they now allow running/jogging shoes and no need for having the gun with you as long as the ruck weighs at least 25 lbs. I always made sure to have minimum 26 lbs to be totally sure my ruck would not be underweight when I had finished the run. Very often I have seen that it is not the best runners or the best competition athletes that does the best when doing this march. Multiple times I have seen great runners really struggle doing this march. I have also often seen many soldiers that have built to much muscles in the gym have no chance at passing it. The 25 lbs ruck makes a huge difference for many. It is a great advice to train with a weighted ruck for some weeks in advance if you are not used to it. And a ruck buddy or two can make all the difference for many.
Did it in 1995 in Bosnia. The serbs gave us slivovic. My feet were hamburger. I remember taking meds with my battle buddies. Didn't figure out the feet untilI I retired. KT or lueko tape on every place you have a blisters. Proud of you to take the challenge.
Just did it for the first time last weekend. In my opinion, the first two hours are easy. It's not till you get about the halfway point, that keeping up the pace starts to get hard. I'd definitely recommend using a Garmin or similar, so you can see your pace/speed all the way round the course. That makes it easier to know when you need to pick up the pace, and when you've got some time in the bank, and can take it a bit easier.
In our platoon of conscripts pre internet, no one told us the different marks. We where told whoever didnt finish it in 4h30m had to do it again. It worked.
I have done it 11 times. First time in 1989 with old armyboots and ancklets. No insoles. Will not recommend that. 10 more times in my service. Steady walking is the thing. Usually I finished in 4 hours 10 minutes. My record is 3 hours and 32 minutes due to wind and snow. It was too cold just to walk. We had to use uniform and issued armyboots. Good insoles would help a lot. Even if you passed on time the march would not be passed if you weren't combat ready the next day. I think that is the reason why the march often was on a Friday 😅 My last 30km march was in 1998. Good memories.
Tried it last fall in Poland and failed at 4:31. I later found out that the grader of another group was giving his runners the minimum passing score if they got within 10 minutes of their required times.
I’m currently overseas on my 2nd deployment been running 2miles every day and every week theres usually a 5k event I do and Monday through Friday I do spin class because we have the ruck March coming up in November and another in April so hopefully doing all that will definitely help
I keep finding different standards for the different age/gender groups… is the one in this video accurate for 2023? Specifically looking at female age 42
Royal Marine Commandos who are not Special Forces, at the end of a week of tests including 9 mile speed March Assault and Tarzan course finish of with a over the Moors and Hills 30 mile carrying 35 lb and Rifle in full kit and boots 8 hrs max they are already tired from a week's tests. I wasn't a Royal Marine but they get my respect. I did do the Nymegan March in Holland 25 miles a day for 4:days Lots of Military Units there including the US it a annual event. The Norwegian Forces are very good and that March I take it is the standard one.
bruh i had a 29 lb ruck plus water, didn't train one bit for it, the worst part was i worse oakley light boots, my toes and balls of my feet screamed at mile 9 and beyond. just dug deep, i only cramped the last .6 miles. ate one beef stick, two gels, one honey waffle and a camelbak with dripdrop. i am old, just dig deep, you got this 4:25.05 14ish min pace.
I passed at 4:20 hungover without training which was a terrible idea. There was a LTC who was 40 and finished the ruck in 2:51 which is nuts.
40? Man is he old… what, wait? Me too…?!
Dayum. I'm 39 and will be participating in March. 2:51 is insane
I passed in 4 hours 20 minutes. My God, I will never do that again. It'd no joke
I’m only here because I got done with it two days ago and I still can’t feel my legs 😭😭
Oh god I have it tonight
Just finished mine yesterday in 4 hours 25 minutes currently limping around everywhere
same time as me, got hammered the night before and did no training for it. Could not walk really for two days after haha
Just finished mine at 4hrs 25mins and my god those last 2 miles is worse than the 1st 9 miles

Glad your posting again! I used to watch your videos as an enlisted soldier. Got CST this summer and commission as a 2nd LT next year, can’t wait!

You’re gonna crush it!
California conservation corps?
I passed with 4 hours 20 minus, first time GO. I did prepare at at, full sent. Just don't stop, if your hiring, keeping running g and or walking fast.
That’s cool. If it’s safe to ask, how old are you?

Balancing the rifle was important I remember, the march was a hate love afair :-) Damd you felt good when you made it :-)
Very helpful! Thank you!
Your advice was fantastic and I qualified 4:26! Thank you
When i did it in the Norwegian infantry back in 1990, we also carried our gun. A Heckler & Koch G3. I did it just under 4 hours. :)

💪🏾
@@AlvintheDirector 4 hours 44mins, knee gave out and had to drop pace. Next year though :)
@@carmacknw you’re gonna come back stronger
Welcome back!
✊🏾
I just passed it today in 4 hours im also in the army & completed it with my unit
I’m about to do the ruck today. No prep beside regular working out at the gym and playing soccer once a week. Ima just send it.
How did it go brother?
MOTIVATOR!
💯💯💯💯

We did 18 miles rucking in the 547th Engineer Battalion.
Where does the badge go on the dress uniform? What is the measurement for it?
I did 26.2 miles with 100 lbs in about 8 hrs and 19 minutes.
Why do I see different standards? I’m 30 F and doing the ruck tomorrow, they’re giving me 4:50 to finish. Not 5:15
I am also finding different standards and need to know what the true requirements are for F/42
There are female standards (:
Ended up finishing in 4:45 but before start time they did announce my age group had 5:15.
1:35
Bruh.
Men at the age of 60+ are finishing 10 minutes faster than women between the age of 18-20???
I keep finding different standards for the different age/gender groups… is the one in this video accurate for 2023? Specifically looking at female age 42
They have female standard now for your age 5hrs 25mins
Whats the average pace to pass the ruck in 4 hours and 30 mins?
It’s like a 14:30 mile pace
Thought it still was Kennedy/Roosevelt march, 50 miles 20 hours.
(edit) not that Norwegian march is peanuts.

Norwegian Ruck March? What's wrong with Ranger School? When did this start? The only road march we did for anything was during the EIB course.
Ranger School is great. So are a bunch of other things in the Army
