  • You don't have to spend a fortune to get nice wildlife footage. Professional slow motion wildlife videography can be achieved with this budget setup. Well, there's nothing budget about the lens, but you could get similar results with a cheaper lens. Panasonic GH6 with Leica 200mm f2.8 prime. 5.7k 60p, 4k 120p, HD 240p and 300p. I also tried a glimmerglass 5 filter near the end.

    Fingers crossed the Nikon gods smile down upon you and gift you a Z9, at least to test for a while. I have worked with a photographer/videographer who delivered footage from his Z9 (he shot in the 8k, then delivered it downsampled to 4k). Was absolute magic, so much resolution.

  • @danncorbit3623
    @danncorbit3623 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Your tests are valuable because they show us the capabilities (or incapabilities ) of the camera systems that you test. Samyang is making a new line of autofocus fine lenses for Sony e mount called V-AF. There are two problems, though. Only three lenses now (with two more coming in 2023) but even worse, the longest lens is 75mm. But something is brewing here and in two or three years there might be an easy to use cine camera setup. Meanwhile, the hybrid systems are still similarly a stone's throw from perfection. But keep leaning on your camera store sources for more systems to test.

    Love the crazy experimental stuff you're doing to help us plebs that can't (won't?) afford the elitist A7Siii. No one else does this on TH-cam. While using the GH6 I find that 4K 120p is way better for slo mo. Why not use 4K 120 instead of anything HD and just slow that down? Also, is 5.7k 60 better than 4k when using Topaz to slow things down?
    Regardless, this footage is great! I love the new song. The backing vocals sound a bit different. Did you get your black friend to do them with you? You know that guy with the channel who you recommended we view for that comparison thing but he never did put out, he never did and we cry every morning waiting as our coffee gets cold. Maybe because he's busy singing with you.

    As a primary Sony a7Siii and a7iv shooter I was so obsessed on making Canon as my second system. But lately I have been prospecting Panasonic S5 and I am so glad that I am doing that. That image from gh6 today was better than anything in a long long time.

    • @JohnsClicks
      @JohnsClicks ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you have a second system anyway? Unless it's smaller.

    • @kapilesh14
      @kapilesh14 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JohnsClicks you are correct I deeply want to go for smaller systems but Sony will never focus on making top class apsc. When I say top class I mean like Panasonic putting everything in gh6 or Fuji in xh 2s. Fx 30 simply doesnt cut it. Canon's apsc is ridiculous as their are no lenses and you would be stupid to think Canon will make it amazing. I only want Panasonic full frame for insane low costs. I mean on b&h I saw S5 with two lenses below $2k, now that is too attractive for anyone suffering from GAS.

    • @cheeeeezewizzz
      @cheeeeezewizzz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kapilesh14 I wish panasonic would do a top class small body like the gm5 again. Give me a dual iso sensor in a gm5 sized body with an updated viewfinder! I found a great deal on the 200 f2.8 a couple of months ago, and I love the shit out of it. 1.2m close focusing distance is so nice to have. The comparable 400mm Nikkor and 500mm Sigma both have over 3m close focusing distance and are three times the price in the current market.

      Your telephoto lens will need an adapter because the horrid selection of Canon M telephoto lenses are dark enough that it will look like you are shooting in a cave and have resolution that screams, "I am an awful kit lens!!!" at the top of its lungs. Adapters tend to work great for stills on a tripod, and not so much for video. And the video modes are limited. But if you already have (for instance) a nice collection of Canon L glass, it might be worth an experiment to see how it goes.

    Especially for wildlife filmers MFT and to a lesser extend APS-C is the perfect compromise. Barely anyone will see the difference in picture quality, but you will get the reach you need much easier, with much less weight and much less money, than full format requires. Both, Olympus and Panasonic MFT cameras are that good right now, that the camera and its restrictions is the least problem you have to produce convincing wildlife videos.
    What I find particularly amusing are those videographers which complain about last 0,5% missing to absolute sharpness they identify when pixel peeping at 200% - and than use Mist filters or Glimmer Glass filters.

    Is it just me...and yes I could be very wrong on this, but doesn't Panasonic color science totally blow Sony and Canon out of the water? Sony has a yellow tint and greens are exaggerated (well known). Canon seems to have some red/magenta hues. Some of this footage had beautiful and balanced colors to me.
    My personal interest lies in S1. Anyone want to warn me away from the S1? I am aware of the bad autofocus?

    I bought the Panasonic/Leica 200 2.8 used for around £1k sterling. Paired with my Olympus EM 1 mkiii it's almost magical (I don't do video). It's worth staying with MFT just to be able to use that lens. All up weight is under 2 kilos - how much would a full frame weigh with a 400 mm 2.8 (ok Tony 5.6)?

    Can you use it without the lens hood? I'm surprised how compact it is without that giant lens hood...

      It would probably flare bad, and I wouldn't trust myself walking through bushes with that front element exposed.

    Rumor It looks like Panasonic and DJI are jointly testing a new focusing method. The new system is said to utilize the LiDAR focus technology released with the Ronin 4D.

    I dunnnooo.. GH6 ($1800) + Leica 2.8 ($3000) (USD) = $4800. You already have the A7SIII and Sony 200-600..I feel like that would be better even without the tele converter since the panny setup is only 400mm. Either way you're talking 5 grand. Is it better than an A7IV in apsc mode? Or an a6600? Or a canon R7 with the $500 100-400?? Also factor in the Topaz video AI (like $250 regular I think?) with a PC powerful enough to use it.

      There is some magic to the shots missing in the Sony. Can't deny you can get some special shots with the Panny setup

      @@castielvargastv7931 hence topaz video AI. if he's upscaling the footage anyway, it negates the same need for a camera that has it native. As many of his videos have shown, upscaled footage looks just as good as native.

      @@danielnyman1070 uoscaled does not look as good and you cant fake 4k120 or hd 240/300 upscaling also costs lots of Time, energy cost and you need an expensive fast computer. I film in 6k, grade it and done
