I found this extremely interesting. I believe it is very important to preserve all of these sheep breeds. I used to be highly allergic to wool, the slightest amount of wool content would turn my hands beet red. I have been knitting and crocheting with yarn that has wool content but it has been superwash yarn. I think we should all buy a skein of yarn from these sheep even if we have "princess skin" and have it in our stash just as a gesture of support for these sheep breeds and farmers.

Never heard of any of these breeds. Thanks so much for this wonderful information.

Fascinating. I really got a charge out of thinking that in 3000 BC folks might have been harvesting wool from the Ronaldsay sheep to knit up socks and/or using pelts for warm and comfort. Totally cool.

Thank you for another fascinating podcast. I am familiar with only two of the sheep breeds you mentioned. And, in fact, purchased three skeins, three different colors, of the North Ronaldsay when in Scotland last summer-at about the same price you paid. The black Hebridean is very tempting as well and I’m going to look for it should I get back to the British Isles. I’m looking forward to the results of your knitting with these rare breeds.

Super interesting. I love info about different sheep breeds. I thought you might find it interesting-i live in a neighborhood with streets named after sheep: KaraKul, corriedale, Dorset, Tunis, romeldale, Suffolk, Leicester, Merino, cheviot, Charolais, etc..

Thanks for expanding on the Fleece and Fiber" book. Will you do videos on how the samples knit up and wear? Would be extremely interesting!

It would be awesome to knit a sampler shawl or blanket with all those different breeds. Thanks for sharing, so beautiful.

I have used the Hebridean wool to make jumpers. It knits up beautiful, shows off cables and textures like no other. Rustic yarns are great to knit with and produce long lasting knitted items. I love working with them and use them quite often. I love the way these yarns feel and smell. Thank you for your insightful videos. I truly enjoy them:)

So interesting but I prefer to use, wear, and gift wool that is not in the "rustic" range. I'd be interested to see what you make!

Another informative program! I am one of those sensitive skin so I wouldn't be knitting with any of it. Too bad there isn't someone who could do a coop to get these fleece out there more to inspire farmers to process their wool.

I loved learning about all the sheep breeds and watching the videos of the flocks! I've been thinking of adding Friesian (both breed and location) fiber to my bucket list. It just seems appropriate since I'm a Friesen!

Love your amazingly informative videos. The sheep breeds you spoke about are fascinating. I knew about the Scottish breeds and the Zwartbles but not the others. I have just been given some Border Leicester yarn and look forward to making something with it. The Border Leicesters have fantastic ears - check them out! I'd really be interested in hearing more about other breeds. I'm a great fan of the Herdwick.

Agree with you about the Scottish breeds, they are so interesting. Herdwick wool is amazing. Tough and warm and beautiful., glad you reminded me about it. I'll be going up to Woolfest in June should be able to get some then

I think she covered that in first video. Is best for outerwear as coarser. They are still the breed I always wanted.Do you have some?
