You both have transcended the 'Sailing Video' genre for something really amazing. It's all about openness to other cultures, education without preaching, entertainment without sleaziness, and ultimately, about two very decent people who teach us a lot about respect, decency and kindness. Really grateful and I get excited each time I see a new video posted. Stay safe and have fun, David.
Well said! I've done a bit of binge viewing in the last couple of weeks since finding this pair and their videos. It's like you're watching someone you could know sailing the world. Real people on an amazing journey allowing us to follow along!
As time has taken it’s course with me, I sit and watch many videos about sailing, I pass the time building model period ships out of wood and dream of days past when I sailed. The videos you provide are more like a travel log, entertaining , very enjoyable and educational. Fair winds and a long life may be yours. Enjoy your youth, it doesn’t last long.
Glad to see you guys are having a great time. Thanks for the shout out. We are in a hotel room in London with our grandkids, and that blew their minds. LoL!
Amazing episode! So much stories told in one video. I much liked the fort where the story about the history entwined with the visual story of the boys flying kites. Thank you so much!
Very interesting to see your sailing trip , very nice Banda Island , Bandaneira , the spice island which save Euro from pandemic in middle age century. Very good Matt n Amy, thanks
Great video! Never knew cinnamon was basically dried tree bark! Whilst our boat sits out the cold wet English winter in the boat yard, your sunny escapades give us inspiration for next season.
This is our daily happy place! Hope you are both safely holed up while authorities around the world lock us all down. Thanks for sharing! Ced and Kiki, Montreal, 🇨🇦
Discovered your vids a only few weeks ago, so have been on catch-up! They're all really interesting and I can see the standard is just getting better and better. Particularly like your vids because they are interesting, honest and show us the beautiful places you can still find, if you have the determination! Keep them coming😀
Your videos just keep getting better and better! Fantastic camera work, commentary and editing, and it looks like you enjoyed a really action packed stay on the island.
I enjoy your videos more than I do some of the other sailors I follow. The information you provide is great and your photography and videos are well thought out
Great educational video! So interesting to think about the fort being built in the 1620’s. The American Pilgrims sailed from Leyden, Netherlands in 1620 for Plymouth Rock.
Bonus, mainsail fits as expected! Awesome adventures again, touching and living what few of us would ever experience! Thank you for sharing these moments. Love the smiles on the local crew.
Another outstanding video. Thank you for sharing your adventure with those of us who can't do it ourselves. I know it takes a lot of time to film, edit and post these videos and I hope you know how much they are appreciated.
Wow guys that was like proper documentary standard! The video clarity is first class - those new cameras are really paying off - and the editing is really top notch also. My son is a professional tv producer/editor I'm going to send him a link and see what he thinks...
What a lovely film. Have you read the book "Nathaniel's Nutmeg"? It is all about this fight for the nutmeg between the Dutch and English. I love your filming and thank you for taking us to the places you visit. I feel I am already there!
Hey guys! Not sure if I’ve mentioned before, I LOVE the underwater footage of the dolphins in the intro. Could you please show us all how you get the footage without losing your GoPro and not spoiling the shot with a huge bubble stream covering the lens? Looking forward to seeing your secret! Cheers, Mike
HI Michel, Thank you. The dolphin shot was taken with a go-pro hero 3 at 60 frames per second so we could slow it down for the finished film that you see. The slower speed smooths out the movement in the camera. Unfortunately with the Hero3 that means that it is not full HD but 720p. It was also a mirror calm day with crystal clear water and we were motoring slowly at about 3 or 4 knots to make it easier to hold the go pro on selfie stick in the water. We braced the end of the selfie stick (just a long stick we have hanging around on board) against a stanchion to try and hold it as steady as possible. No secrets there -)
Thank you for this great episode! a perfect mix of sailing, culture, nature and discovery! Your genuine and elegant style of "sailing channel" is very refreshing! looking forward to the next episode.
Another great video .. I've only been watching for the last two months I would say.. as you know.. I've now watched them all now and up to date.. so wish I had been watching from day one... a big inspiration you two have been.. and a lovely couple at that... I do plan to buy a Yacht and touch wood follow in your sail steps ect lol.. I'll be telling fibs if I was to say I'm not jealous... what a perfect lifes you both have... big thanks for sharing.. I'm hooked...
You guys just pushed my button again. One of my dreams has been to visit these islands. You forgot to mention the name of the fort though. If other followers were wondering, it is Fort Belgica. It is on Google Maps. Cheers,
Loving your journey and look forward to each episode... I'm not in the position just now to undertake another big adventure of my own but I feel as if I'm travelling vicariously with you guys... Keep doing what you're doing and enjoy xxx
Thanks for the informative video. I never knew that about nutmeg. Keep up the good work by giving us a a diverse spectrum of info on sailing and the cultures you visit while on that journey. We are grateful for what you share.
Thank you for taking us on all your adventures, we love your videos! What book is that your reading at 3:10 and what books do you recommend other new sailors to read?
Hi Johnnie, That was the cruising guide to Indonesia by Andy Scott, very useful here, we also use '101 anchorages'. For general route planning we use world cruising routes by Jimmy Cornell. Apart from that, most of the reading and research we do comes from free online sources and other cruisers blogs/videos. If you can find a sailing channel that is travelling a year or two ahead of you, they are usually a good source of information!
I continue to be impressed with your videography, 1st class professional work. Thanks for the tip on Movie Maker, I picked up a copy of version 15 which works well on my Windows 7 machine. Still learning how to use it.
Just as well you enjoy hiking as that volcano didn't look the easiest to climb, well done👍 Did you come away from the racing exhausted, looks like hard work to keep the rhythm going. Another story of greed when talking about the spice trade in years gone by,we are all fortunate not to have been caught up in all the murder and so forth.Best wishes guys🙂
BIG TICK GUYS, LOVE IT, hey what's your computer and program that allows you to do such great editing ON A BOAT! lol!, and is it really much better than a mac air? thanks.
lovely video as always, great photography and that part of Indonesia really looks like a worthwhile visit even if the anchorages are challenging. I have a question for you which I don't think you've covered in previous updates: what safety kit do you carry on Florence? With just two of you on board do you take extra precautions for Man Overboard situations? Do you have PLB's for example? Do you practice MOB drills? Anyway, just curious. Cheers. Dean
Hi Dean, We have PLB's with AIS outputs in our life jackets, Our most recent man overboard practice was last week when Amy's had flew overboard (successfully retrieved). However if one of us was in the water and unconscious or injured we are not sure that getting the casualty back on board without further injury would be possible, so we concentrate on making sure we do not go overboard. We will check all of our safety gear before we set off across the Indian Ocean next year, sounds like some people may be interested in that so we should film it then and share.
@@SailingYachtFlorence I think that would be a really good video to do. You're right, staying on board is THE most important thing but you never know when something unexpected happens or sheer tiredness takes you off guard. I think PLB's are an amazing recent innovation so would be good to understand how yours work. As there's only two of you, having a plan for just one of you doing a MOB & retrieval will be really interesting especially as I know you don't have a swim ladder you can lower into the water.
Hello from British Columbia, the last ten vids is better than David Attenborough. Be proud, but please make the effort in your long term plan to visit us.

My feelings exactly. Matt and Amy are genuine. There's is my favorite sailing channel.

I think this is the best video yet from Sailing Florence. Great work both of you. Thank you.
Your videos keep on getting better and better. Can’t wait to see the next one.

Great work on the race Matt! Another great video and awesome footage. Nice too see these places through your eyes.

How does Matt keep his hair and beard the same length the whole journey ?
Ha ha, Hair continuity is Amy's responsibility. Dealt with well on a beach at Lady Musgrave island here: th-cam.com/video/U2RyypMJPYw/w-d-xo.html
(@6:35) Ooooh, geez! I don’t like the look of the stability of that racing canoe! (Check out the roll period!) Looks inherently unstable to me!!!
It would roll on wet grass, there was a lot of bailing to be done both before and after the race!

thank you for an excellent video, and also for explaining the history of how the colonialists treated the local population (16:40). It was not a pretty story
'Didn't see one fish big enough to eat' That is the problem isn't it. As soon as they are big enough we kill them.
