    Making a Leather Biker Wallet
    Biker style wallets are a great leather project for more advanced skill levels in leather crafting. We made this biker wallet from natural vegetable tanned leather with poly threads, cutting the leather by hand and using a saddle stitch to sew the leather wallet together. Hand sewing a wallet like this is the best way to construct a biker wallet where your leather is too thick for most sewing machines.
    This biker wallet is about 6" tall and 4" wide. It has 8 card slots, two receipt slots, and a slot that fits every international type of paper money we could find. The snap is a custom made solid brass concho that is copper plated.
    This style of biker wallet is usually paired with a chain or braided reign for security as it sticks out of the back pocket, however it could also be carried in a bag or purse instead and the attachment could be omitted from the leather biker wallet. Happy making!

    I'm very impressed by how much cutting you're doing freehand, even straight edges. That takes some real skill.

    I'm an amateur when it comes to leather craft, I do love crafting leather goods for my family and friends from time to time because the whole process is so satisfying and takes my stress away.. this video did the same for me in 14 mins :) while I prepare for my semester tests! Cheers!

    I love how you made your wallet. But one thing you should do when you make your card holders. After you glue them together, then stitch it first for sometimes the glued edges may slip or slide as your punching the stitch holes. Once you have them stitched then you can cut off the excess leather then sand them on your sander. That way if they do slide or slip you wont have an awkward uneven edge to have to sand more and risk the sander sanding more off closer to your stitching.
    Also when you were edging the card holders another way that helps so your not working against yourself. Start facing the direction of the leather in the direction of the holders and bevel edge following the direction of the holders. That way when you come to each and every one of them your not fighting against the direction of them and yourself. Ive been working with leather for over 30 yrs and overtime you pick up other ways of doing things and how to improve and with the help of others with more experience to improve on my own techniques.
    Overall nice work

    I just want to see the rest of the person modeling the wallet in the thumbnail. 😇😂 This is nice work though. I'm getting into leatherworking myself. Just bought the tools, leather, dyes/polishes, and a personalized makers stamp. I need a bigger table, but going to go ahead and get started on a small one I've got for now. Always good to have videos for reference/inspiration.

    Wow, you're true artist! I have a question, what would you recommend to break in a new leather wallet or speed up the process? It's a biker style wallet sold by Harley Davidson if that makes a difference. I was searching youtube for a method and ended up here and couldn't stop watching, you do awesome work!

    • @Corter
      @Corter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks so much! A leather balm like Obenaufs should help soften up stiff leather :) a lot of saddle leathers and stiffer leathers (if they're real leather) also will just be a waiting game - they take some time to break in, but once they do they're molded to your body and are super comfy!

    I'm trying my hand at leather-working and I wanted to ask about the leather you use. I suppose it's vegetable tanned, just like the one I buy. The thing is, everything I can get my hands on has a more "tan" color, while what you're using is more "cream" colored. Is there a specific grade or type of leather that has this color?

    • @MountainFisher
      @MountainFisher 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Where are you buying your leather? Now some of the color also depends on the tanning process as well, some veg tan is a little darker new, but it is not common.
      Fresh tanned veg is light tan when new, but tends to go dark as time goes by. lf you order veg tan and it's a darker tan color you are probably buying older leather that's been exposed to the air. Corter's leather in the video is quality veg leather and you can tell just by looking at it.
      Mind you it doesn't hurt anything unless the leather is really old, dried out and tends to crack when bent. Quality leather has to be really old and exposed to do that. Cheap tanned leather, not so much.
      All my older leather is going that way, it's why you keep it rolled up with the hide side turned toward the center and flesh side out. l also keep my larger scraps stacked on top of each other.
