I didn't read the title and opened the video thinking it was a Top 10 from the regular series. So here's an idea, which color combinations (whether all in general or divided into mono, two colors, three colors, etc.) are the most successful in competitive Magic. I don't even know if it would be possible to calculate this.
At the highest level drafts are played in pod and the color pairs are a lot closer in performance. You measure this by seeing how the pros did in the big tournaments.
Turns out that instant speed trample that leaves an effect behind is pretty good. I have mixed feelings on the aura tokens in this set. On one hand, this is probably what aura's and combat tricks needed to be from the beginning - something minor ongoing and a little more now. On the other hand, the implementation is fairly uneven here. Overall, it is an interesting innovation that wasn't nailed out of the gate but probably deserves some polishing.
Gotta say that I love the retrospective look. Having an analysis well informed by experience and data is much more useful to future viewers than mere spoiler impressions.
I agree with basically all of this, haha. I sorta feel like GB and BR are on the same level and that RW is #1 alone. But that might just be my bias. I've only got like 11 drafts under my belt.
I don't remember a time where GW was anywhere near the top deck in a limited format, let alone the first place. On the flip side, GB had been rock bottom for several and then some sets and finally got to a reasnoble place (which isn't too surprising, considering the original Eldraine set had such a good food support and GW was solid there).
@@bluemage1 my favourite card of this set is Hatching Plans. Love the art, love the mechanics. Perfect Bargain target. I also like that Tuinvale creature, that gains lifelink with Celebration. I reckon lifelink is quite good in limited
Disagree about UW there is definitely a viable control deck. Also since this is such a splashy format I think it's a mistake to conflate archetypes with color pairs. Hamlet Glutton is great for stabilizing against aggro decks but Apple and Fealty do exist!
I disagree about UR#8. If you play it like tempo-adventure deck with a lot of 1-2 drops it realy feel good. I have a lot of 7 wins with it. My favorite archetype
I can't argue that blue is probably the worst color, but I don't think it's by a huge margin. It's a pretty strong support color if you can go the aggro route. The tap effects have little synergy, but they can absolutely win you a game out of nowhere in a format this fast. Having weak creatures isn't anything new for blue, but there are only a couple a good creatures on the higher cmc between common and uncommon, again putting emphasis on an aggro build. If you can handle the risk of playing a 1 power creature in this format, than Stormkeld Prowler is better than Snaremaster Sprite.
I really think you misunderstood the Black/White enchantment deck or just don't know how to play it. My son is Mythic on Arena and he forces this deck every time he can.
This format makes me sad because it has so much potential but because it is compleately dominated by aggro decks, every single unique thing about this set just gets set aside for damage pushers. As far as the list goes, I think RU is 5th best (push the others down one slot) and BG is best in show (only because it can actually answer Red properly). If this format wasn't so crazy fast, we could see a lot more 3-5 color decks because a lot of color pair strategies would really benefit from splashing a 3rd color for extra punch but noooooo, because aggro dominates so much we can't wait for the slower mana bases to be built most times. RIP Stun Deck. You could have been something if you had your best cards at lower rarities.
red, black, red black, red white, like almost every draft in the past years, yawn. I like draft, but I havent had fun in the past sets since forever, only MoM was fun, the rest? boring to disgusting, LTR, BRO, DMU, WOE, all sets with so many bad rares that go straight into the toilet while never seeing the 20, 30 nice rares, or at the best in pack 3 not in the colours you play. synergies shallow as a puddle, often just aggro driven courve out turn sideways with RNG deciding most of the games.

Its definitely possible! But possibly not as interesting because most top 8 decks are 3 color from my experience

I thought the same and now want a top 10 done in this fashion.
Monstrous Rage ended up being so damn good that it is seeing significant play in Standard in the mono R and R based aggro decks.

Also seeing play in RW heroic decks.

I made so many BG 7 wins deck, it's very very strong, especially combining Not Dead Yet & the giant. Keeping mana up is crucial in this format
Not dead yet in general works like a charm in BG as alot of the most played cards have etbs.
Other than blue red, which is waay higher on my list, I completely agree with everything.
I love the spooky penguin plush's in the background. Great and informative video as always :)

Nice list, pretty consistent with my experience on arena as well
I saw the thumbnail and I was like: "Top 10 color pairs in MTG? Is it April already? 😵💫 "
I gave up drafting this set earlier than most.
You are not missing anything. The format is just people forcing rakdos or boros.
My best result was a 7-1 with a tap deck UW 😮
The deck isn't that bad, especially if it comes together, but the others are just better most times.

great analysis

in a recent draft i got 5 ratcatcher traine

Blue just has no way to deal with red’s go cheap and wide strat
Play bigger things and eat the smaller stuff?

i won my fnm with black red removal tribal lol
Blue/white is just a control deck. It ignores the 'tap opponents stuff' thing. I completely disagree with your assesment.

TLDR: "The format is too fast for synergy or planning"
Just completely disagree with your assessment of blue decks.
Dude your advice on draft isn't great, I keep getting creamed by cards you deem as bad
Well, there's such a thing as anecdotal evidence.
@NizzahonMagic ok I take it back I just got unlucky, played another draft on arena and went pretty well lol
