When I first found you guys, I was struck by the way you approached Survival. I am a mentor and the young boys and teens I work with really enjoy your videos. Luke’s voice is perfect for narration. Keep up the good work . looking forward to more. The no char Flint and steel discoveries you made are monumental. I wish more people would understand the value of what you have done. I live on the east slope of the Rockies . looking for some of the plants that you use here locally. Thanks again.
Can’t tell ya how great it was to read this. Specifically because when we started this one of my personal primary goals was to present the information in a way that was digestible and entertaining for youth. Love and appreciation for the outdoors has shaped the lives of my boys and daughter and helped shape who they are. Hearing that this has benefited the youth you mentor in any way is extremely motivating. Please keep up the great work you’re doing with the youth.
Brilliant shelters. Never would have thought of building them this way and using ferns and moss and leaves. Please keep up the good work informing everyone about these survival ideas that you discover and practice.
I love this series about survival shelters, it would be cool to see more solutions to survival situations: survival fire, clothing (I loved the moss inside the jacket trick), water, food...
Thanks. Hopefully you got to check out our wet weather survival fire videos. We have a few video ideas about making clothing (still in the works). Glad you’re enjoying the content!
@@wildernessstrong6131 yes, I've been following you almost since you started, and I've learned a lot with you and I've been practicing those learnings. I can say sincerely that you show some of the most authentic and useful knowledge on TH-cam. Thank you for your work!
Hi I love ur videos and have learned so much from watching, thank you . I was wondering if u do product reviews? , I have several types of firestarters and would like some feedback . Thank you
For the framework one, since you weaved branches in between the short poles, do you actually need to tie them to long poles? I'm trying to think of a reason to have them for this.
Dude your serie on no char flint and steel is insane. It is a major discovery with a nice scientific approach. I don't remember reading something like that in some ethnographic records or a specific human group that is using percussion techniques with that kind of no char behavior. Sorry I hope my sentence is still clear. This summer I'll run a course on fire-making and transportation techniques and we will sure try the no char flitn and steel way ! Do you still have the pdf with your results in a table ? Cheers
Well it was about 30 minutes for gathering materials, but this part of the forest had them in abundance. The A-frame takes about 2 hours construction and the hoop/arches shelter only took about 30 minutes. So if we were short on time we could have that one up and insulated in under an hour.
@@wildernessstrong6131 right on ,thanks for getting back to me. Keep up the good work !!! I just got a steel striker the other day and tested a few rocks out and got my first sparks!!! Your videos are big help thanks you!!!
The A-frame needed a couple hours. That’s more what we could do if it was early in the day and not as much of an emergency situation. The arches/hoops model was done under a half hour. Gathering insulation materials adds another half hour or so depending on location. That was one of the easiest models we’ve ever made.
You fellas are up there with Tom Tom Mcelroy and Arthur Haines! But your videos have the team approach and engineering/open source vibe to an outstanding degree. I am a math instructor at a few community colleges in the northeast and also attend a gathering each summer at Arthur's place focused on wilderness skills and have been sharing your channel. Keep up the fantastic content! A true service of high order.

I'd throw the insulation down before making the structure of the hoop house. I'm impressed with sword fern. It doesn't compress.
Dang, I wanna do a medieval (my expertice are) survival now XD.
I'm trying this in the spring !!
Enjoyed your video
Good shelter
Nice video brother thanks for sharing!
Another good one guys.
Cool stuff 😊
Those are two of the coolest shelters I’ve ever seen, thanks
Hey that’s great to hear! Thanks for sharing.
I so badly want a series like the flint and steel no char series but for the rudiger/fire roll 😩😩
We’ve got it on the radar. Hopefully this Spring. Thanks for requesting and watching.

Good question. The small woven branches do not need to be tied.

We’ll have the pdf in one of our next videos. We keep discovering new plants so we’ll have an updated video and list out soon. Thanks!
How long to build each of these shelters?
From standing at the chosen spot, to crawling in?

Have you guys tried crumbled punk wood yet for a no char flint and steel fire starter???
We’ve tried several varieties of punk but haven’t found any winners yet. Still open minded and experimenting but nothing reliable so far.

Would a no char stinging nettle tinder take a spark in a fire piston???
We haven’t tried it, but yes I believe it almost certainly would.
