My favourite part of him was that at 0 health, not only did he not die but also did not rout. So he was like "all right I took some heavy hits, how much health do I have left?" *looks at health bar* "That's plently, let's go."
Lets just keep in mind that in the campaign Archaon was soloing the ordertide at the very corner of the map while being cheered by a bunch of Smart Bois and a Shaggoth doomstack.
Reason why the battle is there, is cause i wasn't able to find many good stacks to go up against. And the empire had already send like 20 armies to go kill my smart bois
My friend bought me this game , my first ever total war game, so naturaly my first campaign was to play the empire while he would play chaos. With mods, and no dlcs on my side while he has them all. Let's just say i need to find better best friends
Fun fact, the only faction you do not need DLC to use all of their units is bretonnia. And they are also one of the strongest in campaign, with their lack of supply lines. Only problem is in MP campaign difficulty is locked at normal while the slider only effects battle difficulty. So you can't make full use of the lack of supply line upkeep
@@lordderpington8021 Unless I missed an update, I'm pretty sure the difficulty slider is for campaign and battle, unlike in solo where you can set both separately. If campaign was locked to normal, then I'd not have a -4 to public order from difficulty when doing a head to head with my friend. Cause -4 public order, is not what it's at on normal, that's what it's at on Very Hard.
Sounds like a great friend to me, threw you right in the deep end. Out of curiosity, were you using SFO, Radious, ultimate Chaos, OvN, any of these ringing bells? Cause when I do a head to head with my friend we typically use Radious and/or OvN. And I'm a fan of Chaos, in lore, in vanilla not very much at all, when modded it's fine. But yeah, the beginning of a Chaos campaign tends to go the way of running from empire factions until you can start smacking them proper. With you playing as the Empire, your friend probably had an easier time in the beginning because Karl Franz wasn't coming north to chase him around Norsca and the Chaos Wastes. As far as countering a Chaos player goes it'd depend on the mods, but generally High Elves and Dark Elves can be expected to do very well in general. For Dark Elves you don't even need any dlc for most their best units and lords. Same can be said partially for High Elves, because dragons are really good, though for most of the other really good units you'd need dlc, but High Elves don't need dlc to be good, unlike Skaven.
He could be *slightly* improved by swapping the mark of Tzeentch for a mark of Khorne. Archaon has over 30% physical and magic resistance and 82% ward save. If you take that 12% ward save from Tzeentch out, he still hits both caps. Might as well take the +4 melee attack and charge bonus instead.

The fact that Archaon, a dedicated spellcaster/melee hybrid, does not get arcane conduit is unironically the perfect summary of the overall amount of thought that CA put into the entire WoC faction.
@@LegatusMarcus All the mediocre, e.g. generic spellcasters, in the game have access to it. The stronger ones get their own version with the Greater Arcane Conduit. So not really an argument against him getting it, unless you consider him as less adept at magic like a generic fire wizard for example.
Feel like getting dorghar + blood drenched combined with isabella's trait would give him much more HP, regen and speed, might compensate for being slightly bigger
Heyo! I was the guy that send this Archaon 1-man doomstack in and there are a few comments I have to make regarding some choices First of all regarding the mount, i found myself to be mostly fine without. Speedwise atleast, I was able to play all my battles so far on fast forward which really reduces the amount of time I needed to actually finish of battles. With the only real struggle being skirmishing units or missile units that run away. Regarding the 15% droprate for magic items, i mostly picked it cause i was looking for 2 good items to put in besides the 3 purple items I gave Archaon. I went the other trickster shard over the Crown of domination. Cause I felt like the magic weakness debuff on the enemy was worth more to me then 3 melee attack and defence. Altho, if I were to redo it i'd have given the extra point into the melee attack skill. Also, I really wasn't sure how to get perfect vigor on him, altho it would probably have made him quite abit better. But didn't manage to get it so.... Iknow its probably not the 100% perfect Archeon, but I think it fared well enough and is able anything I have faced so far, from empire, to dark elves, to high elves. Glad you made the vid, was fun watching you test it out!

I mean tbf he is pretty damn strong. Crazy good duellist even without SoK best lore of magic in the game, large HP pool. If he was in a good faction he would be pretty insane. Maybe along with the WoC game 3 rework he'll be a lot scarier.
He’s definitely a powerhouse in campaign, but sadly in multiplayer you have to work harder with him to get his cost back. Not that he can’t do it, its just that other lords do just as good in most situations for cheaper.
@@azpont7275 I don't know. He just thinks it's the best lord, I frankly have no idea. I don't do lord to lord comparisons a lot, except for factions/army benefits, as I usually rely on my army to carry the battle. Doesn't mean the lord can't save a battle of course, just that it's not who I rely on most of the time. Frankly usually I just throw my lord at the enemy's own if he's not a spellcaster, and then let them duke it out, making sure to pop the abilities when they're off cooldown while I manage the wider battle.
Actually having 27 more melee defence guarantees minimul hit chance. So 120 melee defence Archao had means everyone with melee attack lower than 93 had 8% chance to hit him. Baseline is 35%, caps are 8 and 90%. So Archaon's 136 melee attack means everyone with melee defence lower than 81 is hit by him with 90% chance.
Next DLC there will be a new optional grudge to fulfill centered around a mouthy little skaven who called the entire dwarf race "little horse demons". I look forward to earning the trait "Legend Slayer" on my dwarf lord.
From a recent reddit post going into detail on horse mounts: Many single units, especially horse-mounted and similar, suffer too much knock interruption. That is why they are so underperforming vs big heavy targets with jumping/pushing animations. Theoretically stuns are capped at 2, and then the character should be immune to them and strike, but in some cases this just do not work. The test. When re-tested 1 vs 1 - Repanse de Lyonesse vs horned ones, something disturbing about combat of characters emerges once again. I knew this before, because I run that test many times in the past. But out of curiosity I run it multiple times with Archaon. He hits like 1 strike in 5.5 seconds. Not talking about actual damage on strike (which is subject to attack vs defence roll), but attack animation to roll the hit. While Repanse on average takes 8-9 and more seconds for every attack while hit by horned ones. The issue. Run this many, many times. Looks like after her attack she gets stunned 2 times, then, sometimes tries to attack, get interrupted again, and then suffers 1 or 2 stuns. This is not counting constant rotation. So, in some cases she gets stun-locked for at least 4 animations. Stun, stun, another stun-interrupt and then again stun. And only after that she is actually trying to land her own attack. This happens not every time, but surrounded by rat orges or horned ones, any units with mass and jump/push animations this happens often. The Archaon has higher mass, and, I assume, knock resistance, so for with him, the stun-lock is not as bad.
The Empire: "We have you surrounded! You have no reinforcements! The dark gods have forsaken you! There is no way out!" Archaon: "Who said I *wanted* a way out?! Now I can really let loose!"
For a footlord: snikch is quite a good lord, since you can use stalk and this way avoid some ranged damage and choose your initial engagement. Also, if you use wand of jet WHILE using the vortex it won't add any recharge time.
Just love that most single units just stand there and look at enemies they should really speed up the attack animations. Hope they do something about this in WH3 but I doubt it.
@@toggle3927 Yeah but that is not fianl balance and the slow animations are due to blance since they want them to hit hard so if they tweak the numbers down they can hit more often. It is not only the big guys its also footloards.
I think the best tactic with one man doomstacks is standing in a corner, especialy if your a caster or have sword of cain. the AI will form stupid blobs while "searching" for the rest of your army. but its constrained by the map borders and so more offen casting targets where seen in the later part of the video.
This always bugged me how an army may effectively lose a lord, 75% of its quantity, not manage to hurt a single enemy achieving it and still not rout whereas my units would rout just after seeing one rat
It's because of the difficulty level. He said that the save was on Very Hard which gives a fairly big boost to the AI's units leadership but that's not something the player would get
Hit change is 35% + MA - MD, with a min value of 8% and a max value of 90%. This means that MD caps out at 27 more then the attacking MA for a 8% hit chance. and MA caps out at 55 more then the defending MD for a 90% hit chance. So with Archeons 115 MD anything with a MA at , or below, 88 would have the minimum 8% chance of hitting. Witch should be everything besides a few really stacked out characters.
Imagine being rallied to fight against a army so strong it will bring the end of the world. Instead of the army there’s only one guy with a weird looking sword and said weird guy just kills all your generals and 90% of your army by himself
To be honest i liked the first few doomstack videos more, when they were about practical and fun to use armies like the Sisters Of Twilight + Ariel and not just the SOK and trait farming. This kind of trait farming the whole world for a 1 lord doomstack is imo way to impractical and tedious for a normal playthrough (except for wood elves).

It's because he gets the full melee line. Other hybrids that get arcane usually only get a short yellow line for melee.

For hordes to get Perfect Vigor you need to spend 10-15-20 turns in enemy territory, with the 20th turn giving the perfect vigor portion of the trait.

For a footlord: snikch is quite a good lord, since you can use stalk and this way avoid some ranged damage and choose your initial engagement.

Just love that most single units just stand there and look at enemies they should really speed up the attack animations. Hope they do something about this in WH3 but I doubt it.

@@toggle3927 Yeah but that is not fianl balance and the slow animations are due to blance since they want them to hit hard so if they tweak the numbers down they can hit more often. It is not only the big guys its also footloards.

I think the best tactic with one man doomstacks is standing in a corner, especialy if your a caster or have sword of cain. the AI will form stupid blobs while "searching" for the rest of your army. but its constrained by the map borders and so more offen casting targets where seen in the later part of the video.
This always bugged me how an army may effectively lose a lord, 75% of its quantity, not manage to hurt a single enemy achieving it and still not rout whereas my units would rout just after seeing one rat
It's because of the difficulty level. He said that the save was on Very Hard which gives a fairly big boost to the AI's units leadership but that's not something the player would get
@@Mincecroft I know it's the AI cheats, I'm just saying the extent of the AI bonus effects is crazy.
Hit change is 35% + MA - MD, with a min value of 8% and a max value of 90%. This means that MD caps out at 27 more then the attacking MA for a 8% hit chance. and MA caps out at 55 more then the defending MD for a 90% hit chance.
So with Archeons 115 MD anything with a MA at , or below, 88 would have the minimum 8% chance of hitting. Witch should be everything besides a few really stacked out characters.

I always run Archaon on foot when he gets SoK, yeah, battles might take a bit longer, but his health stays way more stable
As a dwarf i sent thousands of slayers at him. He didnt stand a chance.
Imagine being rallied to fight against a army so strong it will bring the end of the world. Instead of the army there’s only one guy with a weird looking sword and said weird guy just kills all your generals and 90% of your army by himself

To be honest i liked the first few doomstack videos more, when they were about practical and fun to use armies like the Sisters Of Twilight + Ariel and not just the SOK and trait farming.
This kind of trait farming the whole world for a 1 lord doomstack is imo way to impractical and tedious for a normal playthrough (except for wood elves).
He could drop the Mark of Tzeentch for something else, effective ward save is maxed without it
