Turin, Italy, September 30, 2018 - Poland shut out Brazil 3-0 (28-26, 25-20, 25-23) in a thrilling final of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship before yet another sellout crowd at Turin's Pala Alpitour to collect the third world title in their history, after 1974 and 2014.
It was practically a repeat of the previous final, when the Poles had beaten Brazil at home in four sets.
Led by an unstoppable Bartosz Kurek, Poland took the tight first set and then cruised through to the final victory in just 97 minutes.
Surprisingly, there was no game: Poland proved once again able to strip the opponents of their best weapons.
Impressive receiving by Artur Szalpuk and libero Pawel Zatorski neutralized both Wallace De Souza and Lucas Saatkamp, only conceding 2 aces and keeping an overall 69% reception.
The blocking line put veteran Luiz Felipe 'Lipe' Fontelez out of the match and forced coach Renan Dal Zotto to multple setter changes - which did not pay off, for once - and a tremendous Bartosz Kurek (24 points, 69% attack, 2 aces, 2 blocks) did the rest.
Brazil's most consistent contribution in the first part of the match was offered by Wallace De Souza (14 points, 61% attacking percentage), but the explosive opposite spiker lost his offensive pace along the match, being replaced by Evandro Guerra.
The Selecao once again tried their specialty, the dramatic comeback, thanks to two big serve rounds by Evandro and Bruno Rezende, but eventually Kurek killed the match with a big attack - the right ending for a spectacular Final Six by the Polish giant.
Poland are the world champions for the third time in their history, while Brazil will have to try a new assault to their fourth title starting from 2022.

It's time for the players of volleyball also to be receiving millions in cash prize as it's in golf, tennis, basketball, hockey, football and others for it is one of the most entertaining sports on the planet.
Money is calculated on viewership and sponsors, not entertainment. So that probably will never happen.

Not to worry, M.S. Gannets Dosel, this Mr Commentator doesn't really understand the game of volleyball. In addition to my comment on another post (with the same Mister Commentator), Polish team were not lead by Kurek, Sir. He is a fantastic, great player, we probably couldn't have done it without him. However. Poland team were lead by Kubiak. Michal Kubiak, our captain, in my humble opinion, THE BEST PLAYER THE GAME OF VOLLEYBALL HAS EVER SEEN. Put him in any, and I mean ANY position, he will deliver. Wonderful, fabulous, amazing. I hope he plays until his 60's, I couldn't bare the thought of him retiring. As to Mr Commentator, he needs to look up the phrase "having someone on the ropes". It doesn't mean catching up to someone's score lol, peace again Mr Commentator x
That's right! Racja. Może trochę przesadziłaś z tym, że Kubiak jest najlepszy w historii, ale w sumie wolę takie naginanie prawdy niż teksty jakichś zazdrosnych Brazylijczyków-furiatów, że np. "Kubiak is a cocky wannabe", który to niesamowicie mnie rozbawił :)
Nie widziałam tych komentarzy, ale to najlepszy dowód na to, że Brazylijczycy są lekko (?!) zgorzkniali. Wystarczy poczytać statystyki z meczów, nie tylko zdobytych punktów, ale również bloków, obron, odbioru serwisu, wystaw, asyst... Dla mnie Kubiak jest zasłużenie naszym kapitanem i rewelacyjnym graczem. Brazylia może ocierać łzy porażki najeżdżając na Kubiaka. Żałosne. Nasz "cocky wannabe" ogrywa ich, jak chce.
PS krew się we mnie gotuje, jak słucham angielskich komentatorów siatkówki. Really?!!!

Oddany ojczyźnie i kolegom z drużyny, potrafiący ich "trzymać", a jak trzeba, to nimi wstrząsnąć czy nakręcić do boju. Ponadto - lub nawet przede wszystkim - mocny nie tylko w gębie i gestach, ale też i na boisku. Trochę się obawiam co będzie jak jego (i Bartka) zabraknie, ale co będzie, to będzie, zaś my mamy jeszcze przynajmniej rok, by się nimi nacieszyć. Co do ostatniego napisanego przez Ciebie zdania - nie omieszkałem im o tym wspomnieć :)
Więc widzisz, dlaczego mam nadzieję, że Kubiak będzie grał do 60tki lol obiecał, że nie przejdzie na emeryturę, dopóki nie wygramy złota olimpijskiego... Trzymam go za słowo!!! Tokio czeka i musimy wygrać z Bartkiem, Leonem i wszystkimi chłopakami xxx

Brazil was and still is the Nr 1 ranked Team in the World. They are also the reigning Olympic gold medalist.

@@User-pn4zz Brazil indeed had very long and successful reign under Rezende, that particular championship however Polish team was unstoppable and I think won against Brazil already at group stage.

The same was being said before the 2019 Final Six. The young Polish players were supposed to loose in 3 sets. Brazil had another chance to beat that young Polish team, and failed again loosing a medal. Both teams represent similar level currently.

It’s good to see Poland are world champion however why they always falter in Olympic game recently? Just lost to France at Tokyo 2020/21 and will not medal. That elude them being top of world.
They were winning already 2:0 with France and then lost and I saw that they were playing like not them, for me this match won the team who was prepared better mentally. France didn’t have nothing to lose and our players had much pressure on their minds. Why they lost in previous years, probably for the same reason also I think those previous players some of them were not skilled that much as our present players. We will see in the future how it will go, now we have a new coach so we will see.
