Sounds true to the Ssl compressor behaviour, now you need an Aphex aural exciter to insert after the compressor and you'll be set for the 80's "cocaine mix" sound
At least for this song, I don't think your mix is all that "messy." (Even sans compression, it sounded pretty good to me!) All the same, you're quite right, and that bus compressor adds some nice polish to the track. Looking forward to the album. 👍️
A messy mix is not something any bus compressor can fix. ;-) It should just add a little glue to it all. The mix should be great to begin with so I'm happy you found it to be like that prior to the compression. Cheers :)
Nice song! Is the "guitar part" really a guitar or sequenced? Also, in the drum example, are you giving us the wet signal only? I don't have a good ear for compression, but I'm sensing a bit of the dry signal hear. Am I imagining this?
The guitar is all samples. You're hearing the bus compressor on the master insert and it does not have any degree of drywet balance so it's all wet in that sense.
The Xpressor is awesome in its own right. Setup correctly it could easily do the job, but I prefer a dedicated SSL bus compressor, or in this case, a clone. Simply because it mimics the SSL and that's the sound and signature I like.
Yes - that's exactly why I'm not a fan - I think it get's flat and dull, and even more so when a master-limiter is applied afterwards. I much rather like to have a bus-comp on a send-return, and then send only non-percussive elements to it, pre-fader. Thus, only elements with less transients get's "the glue", and "gluing the drums+perc" to that is then taken care of by the mastering-limiter. That being said, the sound of this as a drum-bus-comp only is lovely.
I know several people that feels the same as you on this matter. I think it boils down to that "glued" sound, if you like that or not. I love that sound and find it essential to get that 80s pop sound. Luckily there's no right or wrong.
Stam is improving their craft. Getting closer and closer..Nice job Stam!
Thank you sir!!
Wonderful sounding compressor! I also love running a parallel drum buss with a little more compression on it to get that giant drum sound.
Great track Espen.....love it!!! That bus comp sounds wonderful.
Many thanks!
I'm all for the release. 👍
I have a slight feeling that your album is going to be an absolute banger... :-)
The new album is not pop at all. Just saying. This track here is not part of the new album, this is from my previous one. ;-)
Half way through the video and I suddenly realise I have forgotten to evaluate the gear. I was too busy enjoying the music!
Cheers!
I feel like kicking myself for not getting The SSL native plugin bundle sale a few months ago, great video Espen 👍
It’s fantastic!
Thanks man!
Very nice track (Those Days), especially the "dreamy" guitars. Demo/review - business as usual so to speak (or interesting as always 🙂).
Cheers!

I gave up the Aphex years ago. ;-)
@@EspenKraft Good move!
dope video here
Cheers!
Nice demo and sounding 👍👍
Cheers!
I've almost pulled the trigger on the Dione a few times but I am starting to really consider the Stam instead
Definitely worth trying. They even have a return policy so if you don't like it you can return it. Now THAT's confidence. ;-)
Bus Compressor - sounds like the sort of thing you'd find in a Car Wrecking yard or Metal Recycling plant! :-) Song sounds nice, Espen!
Cheers Craig!
Excelente,saludos Espen,buenos videos
I'm just so used to being a budget producer and coveting this stuff for so long. It's sad, but I make due.
Edit: Love the track.
Cheers!
Love it!!! Good clone compressor!
Cheers!
thanks!
Miku Best waifu ! Great vídeo 💜
Thanks!
Lmao that's Miku Nakano! What a great addition to such beautiful audio gear
Been with me for some time. ;-)

Is your switch backwards? When I click my STAM up aka "In" that is on and when I click it down mine is off.

Hello! What you think about your elysia xpressor in comparison to Stam? IF you could only have one, what would you get?
The Xpressor is awesome in its own right. Setup correctly it could easily do the job, but I prefer a dedicated SSL bus compressor, or in this case, a clone. Simply because it mimics the SSL and that's the sound and signature I like.
Hello, does this make the less flexible SSL buss comp on your Six redundant? Thank you.
I have two SSL SiX mixers, and I have this inserted on the master of the main one and thus I don't use the inbuilt buss comp on that.
Sounds like old Drumulater sounds from EMU
I close my eyes, and it’s like Christoph Waltz is in a surreal John Hughes knockoff movie 😵💫😵💫😵💫

I can't hear any difference. This is why I'm not a mixing engineer.
Good point. ;-)
sounds better without compression, nice song though
Cheers!
