    Honestly I am excited to have you share these details. I had seen several freeze tomatoes, so they could do something with in the winter months when they had more time. I also had one living off my pantry year we didn’t like the canned pie mixes for peaches and preferred simple canned peaches to choose to make crisps or pies with, which got me wondering about canning more basics for the versatility instead. My home grown berries come in small batches so freezing felt like my only option. So nice with others sharing their knowledge and experience to get our heads into different boxes to meet the bigger goals. Woo Hoo! Thank you!

    2) is it 15 mins for both pints & quarts?
    3) if using sugar vs honey, is it the same amount?
    Please share your cherry pie recipe. 🍒
    Thanks for the tip on ordering the raspberry pieces vs the whole berries from Azure! 👍🏻

      2- I did 15 that’s for quarts. It I had some pints in there mixed in so everyone in the pool at the sane time!

    Purchasing frozen fruit from Azure is a great idea. I will say, that even in California(not that far from headquarters) I have had very poor results from boxes of fresh fruit. They have come half spoiled, highly bruised and even if I use them the next day I lose at least half the box making them TWICE as expensive. I love azure and order all the time but keep it in mind when purchasing fresh boxes of fruit. I could not afford the spoilage.

    • @modernhomesteadalaska
      @modernhomesteadalaska  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s a hard thing the fresh for sure. We risk it only because up here even if we loose 2/2 it’s still cheaper. It’s hard to find good fresh organ fruit we can afford anywhere. I love azure too

    I am a bit uncertain about this. Her title says frozen fruit but her opening comment is it’s freeze dried cherries. Frozen versus freeze dried. I just want to be sure that if I can something out of the freezer I can use this process because I don’t have anything freeze dried.
    “The moisture content in regular frozen food forms large crystals that cause your produce to be mushy when defrosted.
    Freeze-drying, however, freezes and vaporizes these ice crystals before they return to their original liquid state-resulting in food with zero moisture content and zero risk of spoilage”
    Viewer please be attentive to what you can. If frozen you have more moisture when you are ready to eat it. Freeze drying results in less moisture and less chance of spoilage. At least this is what I am understanding.
    If this is correct, The title of this video needs to be changed from frozen to freeze dried.

    • @modernhomesteadalaska
      @modernhomesteadalaska  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Title is fine, it’s a month long challenge! I say at the start of the month it’s my goal to freeze dry something everyday or in every video possible, as the challenge is to preserve daily. I do preserve frozen fruits in the video. All good! Good canning practice! Please watch all the way through before warning viewers of an opinion that’s not true. It’s not possible to title every single step you take in a single video. The vast majority of the video IS canning from frozen there for the title is accurate!

      Good grief, I had forgotten how LONG takes for the 23qt presto to reach rolling boil. At the end of the day I will have #20 mixed berries processed but good grief.

      They have to thaw. But after that you can pressure can. If you don’t thaw them they will heat to fast and blow up the jars
