Great breakdown, Axe! During Corallium (around 27:15) you mention Kanami played slowed down than speed the recording back up on Unseen World but that's not the case. Maybe you are confusing that with an interview where she said she composed a few riffs way slower, but she also mentions learning them in actual track speed for the recording and live playing. And Corallium has been played live already in the Japan tour last month. 😉
Awesome! Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts and seeing some parts of these new songs being played. I'm always happy when someone mentions the chorus of "I'll" and yeah that "Hate?" solo is something else. The first couple of seconds sound so playful to me, which seems like it should be weird but it's somehow my favourite part. I think you did a great job with the video. It didn't feel anywhere near 40 minutes and it felt like you talked about everything you wanted to. Great editing. Your videos are always a highlight and this was no exception.
Another stellar offering by Band-Maid that needs multiple listens to fully appreciate. I WAS puzzled (no pun) also as why this was called an EP and not a Mini-LP. The only corrolation I can find is with CD duration: Unleash and Band-Maiko (the other EP) are less than 30 minutes (28:33 and 27:28 mins repectively). The first three mini lp's are all slightly above 30 minutes - Brand New Maid has the same amount of songs as Unleash, but is 31:07 minutes (almost 3 minutes longer). Their full LP's/CD's are all near the 50 or 60 minute mark and have at least 12 tracks.
Great job Axe. For me this EP contains their best instrumental to date (and that is a very, very high summit) and three songs that are great contenders to be remembered among their best: Balance, Coralium and I´ll. The rest shine at a lower height with HATE?, Sense, and Unleash being the next group of notables. Influencer is so far the only song that hasn't caught me. In short, I thought it was a high-quality release. I really liked hearing your thoughts. Thank you!
Thank you! And thanks for your thoughts on the EP, so interesting. I couldn’t imagine Unleash not being top tier!😂 but we like what we like. Thanks again 🤘
16:42 “Same but Different Po” Great video Axe! You did an awesome breakdown of the guitars. “Corallium” is my favorite song from this EP and watching you play the riffs makes me love this song even more! From memory, there’s two albums I like that have an instrumental as the intro and both songs are called “intro”: 1/ “Intro” (featuring Apolyptica) by Bullet For My Valentine from the album The Poison 2/ “Intro” by The xx from the album xx Sorry for not being able to be present at the premiere but it was a bit late for me this particular time. Thank you again for the guitar licks, there’s new stuff I can try on my own (just the Miku parts, Sensei is far above from my capabilities 😅)
Don’t worry at all!😄 Really glad you enjoyed the video. I’m planning on doing a Halloween live stream at the end of the month 🎃 so hopefully you can make that! Thanks for the instrumentals, I honestly couldn’t think of any . Have fun with the songs 😊
They don't want to consider this EP a full album as two songs where released a year earlier- more of a collection of songs. Their first three collections of 8-9 songs were called Mini Albums, as this one is.
Thanks, yes I guess it makes more sense as it’s collection of songs. I did always find it stage to call 8-9 tracks a mini album as there have been so many 8 track albums but maybe it all depends on the length of the whole record.
Awesome review, I like watching how parts are played. So I’m no guitarist but when you did the solo on unleash you were further down the neck. Check out the vid I posted from Aftershock, I fancam’d Kanami. Just curious.
Regarding the EP/Album thing, something I consider is that one of the tracks on the EP came out a year ago and two others came out 11 months ago. With over a third of the record being essentially one-year old, calling this their "new album" with only 5 new tracks is maybe something they didn't want to do. I know bands do this. But by putting them on an EP, which could easily have just been the 5 new tracks, the 3 older tracks feel more like a bonus. And with this being "just" an EP, it also gives hope that maybe this is a mid-cycle release that doesn't reset the clock on them releasing an album of regular Band-Maid length.
I love balance (my fav), just because of the groove being so interesting, next thing vocals and drum go the separate ways 😂 and some sort of reggae bit pops up...totally my thing. I'd call it experimental because they experimented with something they've forgot to in Unseen World! I'll is an awesome, awesome track...really this EP is so good, the more I listen, the more I appreciate each song...except hate. 😂 your stand out, not for me. Like any Band-Maid songs, fans have different favourite, sure sign of Band-Maid being a great band.
Great breakdown, Axe!

I like this style of review where you point out parts that you find interesting or unique.
Thanks so much, I’ll try and do more like this 🙂

Thanks so much man! so glad you enjoyed it. I definitely want to cover both those songs 🤘
Learned lots, loved the breakdown track by track. My listening experience always improves so much after gaining some insight from your videos. Cheers!
That’s awesome man thanks so much!🤘

Great video, it's interesting to hear your thoughts on songs and songwriting. My favourites would be I'll, Influencer and Hate.
Thanks Ken! A lot of people seem to like “I’ll” a lot 😊 glad you enjoyed the video!

Thanks Glen! I checked out your video and you are spot on, I also now know I got the tuning of that song completely wrong 🫣😂 that helped a lot thanks!

The bit you're playing near the end of Sense sounds like Daydreaming to me!?
Yeah I did a bit, I was a bit heavy on the reverb and delay so it probably made it sound more like it 😄
Thankfully Kanami sometimes repeats some riffs, otherwise she wouldn't be human.
😂 indeed!
