Thank you for showing that a lot of great fleeces are not pristine after washing, but it is not a bad fleece or a bad wash job. Each step of preparing the fleece is rewarding. I love taking a fleece all the way to yarn. Now I just need to do enough to go all the way to a sweater. Lol.
They do vend at SAFF so I hope you see her there! She’s part of my spinning guild and I get to go to her farm every month. Wonderful people who care deeply for their flocks. Enjoy it!!!
Trish! Thank you so much for showing ✨realistically✨ what processing fiber looks like. I can not wait to get a fleece and do this myself. With hand carders. Pray for me. Lol
I'm in the process of flicking the coarse wool out of a double-coated shetland, so it's helpful to hear that flicking is always going to give more waste. I mean obviously in this case, because I want to get rid of the second coat, but I'm also loosing a lot of the good stuff and I feel a little bad about it. But also, I bought it to learn on and I sure am doing that!
I love when you do fleece videos, it's such a fun process. I'm still in the early stages of my fleece processing journey and this is totally inspiring me to get back to it, oh there needs to be more hours in the day!!
Those look so squishy and amazing. I love your raw fleece videos, and the "trusting the process part" because sometimes I've been halfway and it doesn't look good (mostly I need to be more patient in carding) and then get discouraged! I am re-inspired to tackle some raw fleeces again!
Thank you for normalizing the process! I used to feel like I wasn’t doing things quite right since I ended up with so much dirt in the fleece when I carded or combed it. The fleeces are gorgeous!
I too really appreciate you normalizing the process. I spent so much time on a CVM fleece to have it come out like the Cormo you cleaned. I kept thinking I must be doing something wrong, since the tips still had a bit of clumping. I'm looking forward to cleaning some more and just moving on with the process without sooooo much fretting.
❤ I'm so excited watching you take a fleece and turn it into fiber. It's so creative..I can't wait for summer. A friend of mine got me a fleece from.a Greek 🐑part but he couldn't tell as wat bread it is. 😊
Nice! This video was super timely. I was just given a very fine corriedale fleece that has sat for a couple of years. It is pretty dirty, but since it was free I'm totally down with trying to spiff it up and see where it lands. I've never used Arm and Hammer, I generally use Power Scour, but I always try a couple of samples washes to see how the fleece responds to each method and I choose the better option. Thank you for normalizing farm funk! Instagram and TH-cam videos often show the best side of the results, and sometimes fleece smells horrific (I'm looking at you, rams!), sometimes it has dirt, sometimes you get a poop or two, and it's nice to see that beautiful end results often start with some funk.
Thanks for sharing, I forget how much waste there is with a dirty fleece!!! I did like the processing though...I loved making little folags: rolags on a pair of cotton carders- the carders are smaller and easier to use with old hands...lol...I do really like watching the batt making, makes me miss using my Patrick Green, I'm hoping to do some alpaca in the spring!!! Thanks again for reminding me why it is so worth the cost of purchasing good, clean fiber!!! You are the greatest...
I love it! I just got my spinning wheel put together. My 1st one and 1st time ever on a spinning wheel. So exciting, can’t wait to see where this goes!!!
(Shipping has really gone up in pricing this past year)….. these final chunks of fluff are so pretty….. agree about the lengthy process. Bath the lengthy process taken gives the wool time to speak to you and man alive, did these whisper sweet things!
This was so inspiring! I have a mountain of washed Southdown that I haven’t had the energy or desire to process because I felt like I did it wrong with the leftover dirt and such, I’m feeling excited to tackle it again 😊
Neat! This definitely makes washing/processing a bit less intimidating. I'm still not sure I have the patience for it myself, but it's still cool to watch.
Thank you for weighing each sample before and after spinning. That is useful information if I ever attempt another raw fleece again. I felted my first try :(
Cormo is my *fav*, I love it! enjoyed watching your process as well. I personally have a very low tolerance for VM once I start spinning, but also accept many uncoated, mod-VM raw fleeces to my life so usually end up combing rather than carding. I find it meditative and enjoy it, though. It was nice to see how you accept VM as well as tossing in the flicking, I should probably be less OCD about it, lol.
Thank you for all the time put in to making this video. The ‘waste’ used to depress me. It still hurts, but I’m getting used to it. Trish, can you put an average percentage timewise to washing, picking, carding, spinning? I see fleece, I think spin, but Boy Howdy! is there a bunch of time/work in between! Thanks again.
Those all look gorgeous! I may need to order a fleece from them. I've been trying to get some local Finn fleeces but the local farmers are all so busy, it's hard to get coordinated with them.
I love these kinds of videos from you. I have just started to get more serious about processing fleeces. I love that you share the real look and not the perfect “glorious” shots online. I am attempting to scour for a second try not just a second wash. However, I have a question. I have never heard you talk about using a picker. I just acquired a Patrick Green swing picker. I am not sure what kind of fleeces to use.
❤Very nice Video! This is so much work, i know it, because i wash my Texelfleece, and its So lot of work. I know exactly wat do you doing here😂 but at least, you have had a beautyful and everlastet long Fibre!!!!!! Quality‘ s Best ever!!! Sylvi
I love seeing you do this, Trish. Then I remember why I don’t want to wash raw fleece. I enjoy carding, but like it clean. Do you have any tips on how to not hurt, scratch your fingers when flicking? I don’t do that technique as much, as I came away with hamburger fingers. I am sure it was user error. Thanks and love you!
What is the Arm & Hammer product you show? I stopped the video a few times but couldn't figure out if it was powdered laundry detergent, washing soda, or something else.
I love dirty fleeces personally lol...I just say it's that particular animal's personality. They must love playing. If it's too clean, I feel sad for them.
I know this question shows my ignorance. I've obviously never cleaned a fleece. Do people ever try Oxyclean for stained fleeces? Would it hurt the fibers?
I'm not sure what other people do, but I have read that enzymes included in some detergents can damage protein fibers and oxiclean contains enzymes. But there are no rules and no absolutes. It's possible that if you limit the amount of time the fleece is exposed, it could be the best thing ever. I am just overly cautious

Hello! I'm not sure which who you are but I go to the spinners group too! I'm Michelle 😊
I love seeing the process start to finish, and all three look so nice. I wish I could feel the squish! The explanations are really good as well.
I always love watching fiber prep! I love spending time with peoples who love raw fleece like I do! 💜🥰❤️
Trish! Thank you so much for showing ✨realistically✨ what processing fiber looks like. I can not wait to get a fleece and do this myself. With hand carders. Pray for me. Lol
Such beautiful fleeces, I know I'm weird but I love washing raw fleece it is so satisfying to see what they become❤
So calming
Oh, I use 5 gal paint straining bags from the hardware store to wash fleece portions. Cheap and they last!
Thank you for walking us through this process. I am just starting to learn fiber prep, and it’s fascinating to see the transformation of it 😊
I love that you normalize dirty (well not dirty, but uncoated) fleeces.
Love the fleeces...so sorry the shipping was SO much!!!
So enjoy your videos!
So much work, but such beautiful fleeces and yarn afterwards! Thank you for taking us through the process!

I lover your videos! I can learn so much! Thank you!
I am fluro green with fleece envy!
Wow, those samples are *so* beautiful. I love seeing the processing, too; it's so satisfying to see those fleeces become soft, clean yarn.
This is for sure my FAVORITE video! Thank you Trish!
This was the perfect video to watch while spinning wool that I processed myself!
Thank you for another wonderful video. I haven’t tried processing fleece yet but I might need to give it a try.
I love when you do fleece videos, it's such a fun process. I'm still in the early stages of my fleece processing journey and this is totally inspiring me to get back to it, oh there needs to be more hours in the day!!
I love these videos. Someday I will be better at processing my own fleeces.
Fleece! Beautiful, fun and a bundle of surprises! Enjoy your upcoming projects 🧶

I am jealous plain and simple....I know you will enjoy whatever you end up doing with this box of loveliness
What beautiful results. It’s really worth all the work.

Bahahaha that’s a midwestern thing - if it’s closer than Florida it’s not that far. That is so true!!!!
I love washing raw fleece! Those are beautiful!
Another super informative video. Thanks. 😊
Love watching you processing fleece. One day I’ll try it
I love your intros! 😂
Love Heelside Farms, I always make sure to stop by their booth and get their cormo/silk blend when I'm at SAFF.
I have Navaho churro with heavy vm . I love the idea of picking and flicking over an open box. I learn so much from you. Thank you.
You are in your element! Your make it look easy and fun. Beautiful yarn. Blessings.

Wow!! Such great information. I have some raw fleece but have hesitated to process.. you have inspired me to do so. Thanks Trish😊
More squishy goodness :) My favorite way is flicking, then I can just do whatever with them. That fin was a pretty color.
Hi Trish, Cormo is a lovely fleece.
This was so inspiring! I have a mountain of washed Southdown that I haven’t had the energy or desire to process because I felt like I did it wrong with the leftover dirt and such, I’m feeling excited to tackle it again 😊
Looks cool. Yay being organized!

Yes it is hard work washing and cleaning out the vm and double cuts. But it worth it. Yes after washing and spinning I do dye it.
cleaning and picking is not my favorite thing to do. lol. But how rewarding when it's all done. These are beautiful!
Thanks for showing the process.
Bravo! 👏🏻. Great video felt like we were there with you.
They all look so good.

I have a large teeswater fleece to wash once the weather improves.
Hi, I have bought a Finn batt with Angora Rabbit, also lovely.
It’s so nice to watch fleece processing. My poor fleeces are all washed but otherwise neglected. That dark Finn is gorgeous!
great timing. i just ordered cormo top from paradise fibers. so this will be a great comparison❤

Hi Trish, your samples look awesome! I'd love to see if you do dye them 💚
Great personality!!
Oh my gosh if you ever came to North Carolina I would want to meet you! I live in North Carolina
Those all look gorgeous! I may need to order a fleece from them. I've been trying to get some local Finn fleeces but the local farmers are all so busy, it's hard to get coordinated with them.
They are all lovelt
Hoping to buy my first fleece and carders at Maryland Sheep and Wool this year
That was so helpful, thank you!
Wow this was so neat

Uch!!! Looks like my girl’s fiber!😂

If you were to dye the cormo, would you need to do anything different from your normal process because the fleece is so dense?
I always tell myself, it's clean dirt😊😂
How long did it take for you to pick a few ounces of the fleece?
Wow. No wonder hand dyed hand spun yarn is so expensive.
I love Cormo. I had a cormo fleece processed at a mill and they ruined it. It is full of neps and is unusable.. Very sad for me.
Thanks for this video……now I know I’m doing mine right and that’s just how washed fibre looks.
