Take your time, man! I never understand the rush for travelers to hurry from one place to another. If you have the time, savor the journey. It's your life, after all, and you're so fortunate to be able to make these trips. Savor every bite, feel every mile, be replenished with every drink, and bathe in the wonder :)
What you said about time - I completely agree. A traveller (elephanttoindia) gave me this piece of advice: If you plan a trip, half the miles and double the time. Hope you won't encounter bears (we probably can't avoid them next week in Romania), Günter/Nürnberg
Same here. I ride 200-300 km per day, last year I went to Malaga from Pisa, taking backroads, stopping in small towns, no tourist places, So much nicer.
The lucky among us get to ride motorcycles. The luckiest among this select group get to go motorcycle camping on trips like this, and enjoy the most expensive way to live like a hobo. Thank you for taking us along! :D
Hello from Finland! This is my kind of motorcycle travelling. Taking it easy, having some good food on the camp site🙂 Your videos are also super quality, thank you ❤
Seems you lucked into some good, fog free weather on the west coast. It’s a fantastic island home, but being a rainforest, there’s no guarantees of the sunshine you were fortunate enough to experience.
Man, this video feels like a fresh reset to your ride x Great to see you looking more relaxed after the work/ urban interrupted last video x Always appreciate the honesty of your videos x Great seeing you get your mojo back brother. We all have those days when travelling, but not many speak of it.
Good to know, unfortunately, there are more tough days ahead on this ride, but that’s just the way it is. I’ll try to be honest and keep it up beat as I can!
Was down there a couple of weeks ago riding. 👏👏👍👍. A solo camper is a single, bear meal. Group camping is a bear smorgasbord. 🤣😂🤣. Some amazing riding and scenery to be had on the Island!
Fantastic brother! Love that part of the world. Hiked the W.C.T. in 1990 and have been smitten ever since. You have reminded me why. Your videos are a delight for the senses.
Bamfield is a very cool little town. Not having any paved roads in/out has kept it from becoming to touristy yet. Myself and a few friends were out there last year while on a ride. We stayed in that hotel, due to the weather. We ended up seeing the water taxi, and getting the grand tour from the operator. It was a trip highlight for sure!
Like your relaxed travel style Stirling……enjoying with a morning coffee with my Golden Retriever, he’s relaxing too after our morning walk🦮Cheers from Cambridge 🇬🇧
"The gravitational pull of the city" I freakin love that! Very true. That's why I'm fortunate to live out in the country and explore the back roads. BTW got my BDR map, very familiar with some the sections in 4 wheels! Thanks for sharing and being an inspiration. Stay safe
I absolutely love these videos. Each one is a gift. Thank you. Spring is finally here and I'm going to ride the rides I planned during the winter. It's time to go moto camping. Next up is a 350 mile trip to northern Georgia to camp with internet friends and then ride back home.
Hey! That's me and my brother in the video! If anyone is on Vancouver Island or has the chance to go there, i would definitely recommend hopping on some fsr roads and really explore. It is one of the most beautiful places in North America
I am currently in the middle of a two week short trip in western North Carolina, typically don’t leave the campsite till 11:30 AM, sit back and enjoy life, my friend good for you👍🏼🇺🇸
You rode to Bamfield, which is where I, my brother and his friend started the 40 km West Coast Trail hike back in 1980 before it got damaged by a huge storm. Took about a week, was tough but lots of fun.
When hiking we had to take the MV Lady Rose from Port Renfrew all through it's 4 stop delivery run to Bamfield where we had to take the water taxi to the West Cost Trail start point.
As usual great content and top notch camera work, Sterling. Your narrations are so natural too. Nothing forced, just simple thoughts and observations. It makes me want to go back so much. That area of North America has a magical air about it. Quite a bit of rain in the fall and winter but in the summer there's a lot of beautiful days, with very livable temperatures. So so much to explore that it just seems to be made for the adventurers spirit to take in and enjoy. I didn't get to Vancouver Island, and that'll be on my to do list for next time, but the Olympic Peninsula was beautiful. Old growth trees, that looked like they ought to talk to you and give you a history lesson. I enjoyed it even more than the Redwood Forest in California. It's a place that a man could get lost, and not care about it.
Love that you're finally in my backyard. Been a fan of your BDR productions for years. Wish I knew you had a hotel in Bisbee when I passed through there back in 2018. Next time I'll be stopping by! Thanks for another great episode.
It takes skill to capture and share with us viewers the beauty of your experience. It leaves me with some really great feelings and inspiration for riding and exploring. Thanks
Lovely part of the world. Last on the Island 2017. Tofino and Ucuelet well worth a visit as you head north. You’ll get that beach camp fire in on Long Beach between Tofino and Ucuelet. Enjoying the trip. My next big trip starting 20th July. Heading from Scotland to Nordkap on the north coast of Norway. Should be a great trip. Al, Airdrie, Scotland
You don't need to worry so much about the bears - WORRY about the cougars - Vancouver Island has the highest concentration of cougar/mountain lion in North America and is considered our top predator. If you smell an intense cat pee smell - you've found a cougar marking site and you NEED to pay attention. Bears on the Island, you can chase them off - no grizzlies here either - just make noise while in the bush - cougars here - if you see one - WORRY. Another point - the roads you are using - the one you call a "back road" are active logging roads - as well as a highway for the residents of the small villages. Be aware of that.
More than once, a good trip has been tarnished by not enjoying the passing of time. Your time is just that. Yours. I watch your video's on a television. I have a laptop close and follow along on Google Maps for two reasons. First, It brings me closer to the road mapping situation of the area and Second it gives me general information of the regional area your are traveling. If I ever decide to travel there few few brain cells will be familiar with what you have already shared. Thank you.
Locals make noise and honk to scare off the čiims / bear because they are so done with them being shot and killed. Tourists don’t understand that they are conditioning the bears to interact with humans more pulling over, especially if they feed them with poorly secured food let alone directly by hand.
The road from Jordan River to Lake Cowichan is one of VI' best motorcycle roads - and the pub in Renfrew is super pro motorcycles - in the spring/summer to early fall - you'll pass tons of motorcyclists.
So good!!!!! I spent many years and miles on a couple of R1200/1250RT-P’s. Now have a Victory Cross Country, but really contemplating a GS or version of it.
check out one of the tiny pad inflators available. they keep setting up camp from turning into a dizzying experience and double as a way to blow on the fire.
I’ve never ridden out to Bamfield. Cool spot. The Jaun De Fuca trail China beach to port Renfrew. is really nice not so well known as the west coast trail. From Port Renfrew to Bamfield. Must put the ride on my to do list. The Port Renfrew Loop to Lake Cowachen is nice,
Sterling how did the BDR trip go? Looking forward to watching that video release. Always appreciate your videos. The shots are always beautiful. The encouragement is welcome.
Your videos are amazing and I would absolutely love to travel with you. I live in deeeeep souther California in the imperial valley. Thank you for being you and for making these videos
Thanks. Superb quality photography. I was thinking of downsizing my GS but, thanks to your good self, I got out and rode her around for a few hundred miles and I'm flaming well keeping her as long as a can get my old leg over! You've probably been asked umpteen times, but what's the amber warning triangle on for? Love your vids, thanks a lot, keep safe.😃🏍. By the way, you have shown me what a fantastic country the US is! I'm not that bothered......do not have your skills to ride that big heavy beast off road anyway!😂.
Chris I have a road bike. It's a Yamaha FJR1300a. I really like it, and have traveled on it a lot, but more and more, even at nearly 63 years old yearn for something more versatile. Maybe I'm an old fool that doesn't know when to quit. I was in the same place for so many years, that wander lust keeps calling me. I'm working on my health maintenance, I'll see how it goes. Do you know where I'm coming from with this ?
@@letitrest4662 Yeah, keep going and stop worrying. I know an old bloke, in his early 80s, still pottering around on a Honda 250! I'm only a young lad of 61, lots of time left for biking fun...I hope😂
@@letitrest4662 - I'd ridden dual sport bikes intermittently throughout my life. For my 60th birthday I bought myself a BMW G310GS. I knew my days of serious off road riding were over. "give yourself the gift of time" great statement, one we all should live by! 11:32

Thanks Sterling. Being from Arizona I’m surprised you forgot your water. But, of course, you were prepared.
Bears have a phenomenal sense of smell. Cooking, especially goodies like smokies would attract them from many miles around.
Great vid, Thanks from Seattle

You chose a good time to visit. I think most of the year it's raining. Vancouver island is one of the wettest places in North America.
Blessed to live on an island with a view of Vancouver Island. All the benefits of island living BUT in the USA !
Love it here.

Don't worry about Island bears. They're tiny. They don't grow very big at all over there 😁
Thanks for the video and your thoughts. Cheers!
