I am one too and you said so yourself 'Sometimes the bass follows the guitar, but thats only because it makes sense within the song to do so.' Which he does here. Which is his role. A role of the bass is to hold up the rhythm yes, but people are making accusations that mr Campbell is lazy or copies the guitar when he does exactly what is needed.
Coming from someone who doesn’t know how to play or read music, This right here makes me immediately appreciate heavy metal that much more. I guess it’s important for all band mates to be on the same wave lengths. I fucking love LOG
I think there's all the musical background in the union of this two musicians.. You find the obsessed, technical and original drummer from Thrash, and the groovy bassist from Hardcore, Death metal, earl Thrash, southern.. Awesome men, Lamb of God fuckin rules! \m/
@fyerfyer1 Maybe he was trying to do that. When you do that sort of thing it reinforces the main melody line giving it a much greater sense of heaviness. And for a metal band like LoG, that can't be a bad thing.
wait... the band has been releasing individual instrumental tracks on bonus disks? damnit!!!!! I knew I shouldn't have bought every album since Ashes on the day it released. I"m missing out on good shit!
If there was a single day I could live A single breath I could take I'd trade all the others away The blood's on the wall so you'd might as well just admit it And bleach out the stains commit to forgetting it You're better off empty and blank Than left with a single pathetic trace of this Smother another failure, lay this to rest Console yourself, you're better alone Destroy yourself, see who gives a fuck Absorb yourself, you're better alone Destroy yourself I'll chain you to the truth, for the truth shall set you free I'll turn the screws of vengeance and bury you with honesty I'll make all your dreams come to life And slay them as quickly as they came Smother another failure, lay this to rest Console yourself, you're better alone Destroy yourself, see who gives a fuck Absorb yourself, you're better alone Destroy yourself See who gives a fuck See who gives a fuck See who gives a fuck Failure If there was a day I could live If there was a single breath I could take I'd trade all the others away I'd trade all the others away
just search for them over the internet. if the master tracks are released (whether it is via rockband, guitarhero, another album, etc) then you should have no problems getting them
@fyerfyer1 I'm a bass player, but have you ever thought to realize a bassist can write a riff, but the guitarist will get the credit for it? maybe he wrote the bassline, and the guitars are following HIM. lol Idk if that's the case for Lamb of God, but there's bands out there ex:cannibal corpse, where that happens a lot. lol alex webster is awesome, but this track is awesome.
@AndersonWave17 Exactly. Theres nothing more that he can do with a song like this, playing the root notes alone would make it sound boring and not nearly as good as it is now as he accentuates the melody which, as schwarg said, reinforces it and makes it 10x better.
@fyerfyer1 sometimes the song wouldn't sound as good if you didn't follow the guitars. Campbell could easily get away with just playing root notes, but instead he fully accents the guitars, and does an amazing job at it in my opinion! :)
saying that one bass player is the "best" is just so relative to personal opinion that saying it on the Internet as a fact isn't a good idea. he's amazing though
@fyerfyer1 The only thing with other bass playes like flea and wooten....is the diffrent styles, Its a hell of a lot harder to play something seprete and unique in metal then it is in things like funk
@koml3uch4 Alex webster does get a lot of the credit, their drummer is original too I believe, but I was just saying in general, a lot of people are like "ooh the bassist is just following the guitars," when in reality, if the bassist wrote the riff, the guitars would be following them. I'm just saying that when people think they're just following guitars, they should look at the flip side of it lol.
@fyerfyer1 Thats because flea is a huge part of that band. For a bassist to try and overshadow Willie Adler and mark morton is a huge huge stretch. Thats why Iron maiden was kind of an oddball band as well. it takes a insane bassist to be noticed over even a decent guitarist...
@crazyheffer93 people get the master tracks from videogames like guitar hero and then join them to make these videos =) oh and master tracks of wrath are from the producer edition
@Nufu7861 Let's not forget mr. Steve Harris. He writes/wrote a LOT of the music for Iron Maiden. 'Following the guitar' as if that is a bad thing, if he'd be doing other things it would be one big mess. Most metal bassplayers have really boring parts, just doing the root notes, John follows the guitar which fills it all up, it sounds great. Most bassplayers cant even follow the guitar. Mr 'fyerfyer1' is clueless.
@fyerfyer1 at least hes not like all those 000000010000000010000001 metal bassists out there. i am lazy too when creating the bass lines. sometimes you just dont feel inspired :)
@fyerfyer1 just putting this out there but Flea from the chilli peppers obviously has to create his own bass line because he has to give the song flow, Flea makes the majority of the songs and he plays a bassline to make it easy for there old guitarist to play along with and make up his own stuff, LoG im not entirely sure but im almost 100% sure that Campbell almost never makes any of the songs but i will agree he just copys a lot lol
Just so all people arguing out there understand this. Yes John does copy the guitar which is the role of a lead bassist. If he was just a bassist he would just follow along with drum kicks and the root notes of the guitar.
Anyone stop to think that maybe he just wants to perform his role as a groove metal bassist? Or that he just wants to make and play brutal music and get paid for it? Dude, if I could get paid and have a lot of fun following a guitarist around...I'd be rocking whatever note he plays all damn day long. Since when was music about wanking? And I love the technical stuff, play it too but seriously...Music is about the music.
BITCHED! (that refers to @eqee1000 's comment haha and if they did release one for ashes it most definitely wouldn't be on the Wrath extended edition... makes no sense
Define 'better'? John's tight and plays exactly what the band wants. Alex can probably play faster or something (don't know much about him), but that doesn't make him better in this scenario.
webster's technical ability is incredible, but way different. ok ,maybe i expressed myself in a wrong way. john and alex are too different for comparison, and defining if one is better than another is a matter of personal taste more than following certain criteria
What do you expect him to do?! You really can't venture out extremely far off of the root with this kind of music. All he could really do to expand his technique is, expand his use of chord voicings, and use octaves. But, this guy is old. He's a very good bassist at what he does. Chris and John make a VERY good rhythm section in my book.
ok campbell is a great bassist but the problem is he is lazy , he follows the guitar thats why u can hear him playing .. but if u listen to bands like RHCP where u can hear the bass very clearly just like the guitar good job tho
Maybe you can't hear him, I do. What do you expect from him? to play triads or scales? This is groove metal, you can't compare it to RHCP. If John had put some licks it would lose all the heavy feeling that this gives to the song.
When the rhythm section can groove this hard and stands alone, no guitar/vox, then it's a damn good team.
John Campbell is a beast!
I am one too and you said so yourself 'Sometimes the bass follows the guitar, but thats only because it makes sense within the song to do so.' Which he does here. Which is his role. A role of the bass is to hold up the rhythm yes, but people are making accusations that mr Campbell is lazy or copies the guitar when he does exactly what is needed.

omg this song with my bass, game time!
thanks for adding this it really helped me learn this song on the guitar thanks again!!! :D
squigly doo squiggily sqiggily doo... Natan Explosion.
john and chris together are like lesbians and softball...
Thank you i have been looking for just the bass and drums of this song forever
Thanks again for uploading it :)
I CANT STOP LISTENING
this is actually pretty sick
I just shout, "See who gives a DUCK!"
bass tone of god
The Bass is So Fucking Awesome!!!!!
I think there's all the musical background in the union of this two musicians.. You find the obsessed, technical and original drummer from Thrash, and the groovy bassist from Hardcore, Death metal, earl Thrash, southern.. Awesome men, Lamb of God fuckin rules! \m/
i'm happy because of it
Every bass player has their on force and ability, Evan Brevver, Dominic Forest, Steve DiGorgio...
thumbs up for the cover Art!
This is def a sansamp DI. Maybe a mic’d cab. But that sansamp sound is unmistakable
Cosmicly badass
Toca muuitooo...John Campbell muitoo foda!
LAMB OF GOD RULEESS \m/
@fyerfyer1 Maybe he was trying to do that. When you do that sort of thing it reinforces the main melody line giving it a much greater sense of heaviness. And for a metal band like LoG, that can't be a bad thing.
I'd like to somebody to rip the drums and bass for some cannibal corpse songs.
Yes! That would be amazing
Holy shit 2011 became 9 years whoa scary
Ikr

If there was a single day I could live
A single breath I could take
I'd trade all the others away
The blood's on the wall
so you'd might as well just admit it
And bleach out the stains
commit to forgetting it
You're better off empty and blank
Than left with a single pathetic trace of this
Smother another failure, lay this to rest
Console yourself, you're better alone
Destroy yourself, see who gives a fuck
Absorb yourself, you're better alone
Destroy yourself
I'll chain you to the truth,
for the truth shall set you free
I'll turn the screws of vengeance and bury you with honesty
I'll make all your dreams come to life
And slay them as quickly as they came
Smother another failure, lay this to rest
Console yourself, you're better alone
Destroy yourself, see who gives a fuck
Absorb yourself, you're better alone
Destroy yourself
See who gives a fuck
See who gives a fuck
See who gives a fuck
Failure
If there was a day I could live
If there was a single breath I could take
I'd trade all the others away
I'd trade all the others away

best song !
you just got served!
Thanks a lot dude!
@VirtageBass good argument !
i feel the urge to scream the "fuuuck" when its time for it...does it make me weird? :D
@AndersonWave17 Exactly. Theres nothing more that he can do with a song like this, playing the root notes alone would make it sound boring and not nearly as good as it is now as he accentuates the melody which, as schwarg said, reinforces it and makes it 10x better.
@fyerfyer1 Don't forget Rage Against the Machine. Timmy knocks out bass lines that are ALWAYS able to be heard throughout the song.
yeahhhhh d la ptm
@Direksone Excally! The bass player is suppose to make the guitar heavier
@fyerfyer1 sometimes the song wouldn't sound as good if you didn't follow the guitars. Campbell could easily get away with just playing root notes, but instead he fully accents the guitars, and does an amazing job at it in my opinion! :)
porcupine tree- open car backing track with bass and drums only please.😁
saying that one bass player is the "best" is just so relative to personal opinion that saying it on the Internet as a fact isn't a good idea. he's amazing though

@Nufu7861 meh am a bassist too and i think this is true dang ...
@celica49 true true ..
@Bludhoundz8 I would say this is actually slightly different than what the guitar riff is (subtly). But i see what yer sayin.
@lifeconsistsofmusic no problem ;) btw, nice nickname! :)
@crazyheffer93 people get the master tracks from videogames like guitar hero and then join them to make these videos =)

Lol I learned this song awhile ago, and put a cover up. and I just found out that I learned it perfectly. It sounds exactly the same.
Yes you are right i checked your cover to see if you actually played it well and i liked it. The only thing i can tell you is get a better bass
No cover I can see mate
@YouNoob93 well i got both tracks from other people around the internet, i suppose they got them from guitar hero
Evilllllllll
sounds like Doom 95 shit!! noiceee
yeah esta poca m...
@fyerfyer1 at least hes not like all those 000000010000000010000001 metal bassists out there. i am lazy too when creating the bass lines. sometimes you just dont feel inspired :)
@fyerfyer1 or maybe some jaco pastorius or victor wooten :P
John Campbell FTW!

@kimimaro9876 i think there are not bass/drums rips of cc =( i would be so epic!
Where did you find the tracks?
@Bludhoundz8 i know right? I mean im a bassist and i cant think of a better way to play with this song other than copying it, right?
@cameronj279 alright i give up ..
@Nufu7861 i thought webster did get the credit. doesn't he write like the majority of their shit and is the only original member?
como aislaste los instrumentos???
Does anyone know if this was made with Moses
Anyone stop to think that maybe he just wants to perform his role as a groove metal bassist? Or that he just wants to make and play brutal music and get paid for it?

yeah alex is like (insert random number here) times better than john, but they are waaaaayyyy different styles. and both are hard
Did you make this from guitar hero?
Do you realize LoG is much more heavier in the guitar sound than RHCP? You probably wouldnt hear the bass anyway under all the distortion.
webster's technical ability is incredible, but way different. ok ,maybe i expressed myself in a wrong way. john and alex are too different for comparison, and defining if one is better than another is a matter of personal taste more than following certain criteria
john campbell is one of the successful metal bassis.no more talks let him copy he is on tour not us babe
@TheFinalDude lol listen to flea and u will be inspired ..
hiii guy...how u separate sound gitar, bass and drum ? can u teach me ?
Like Mozart decided to go metal.
... but not for ashes of the wake
The bass sound is so loud,,
If you reduce the bass sound a little bit, it will be more best..
?
go listen to atheist. roger paterson and tony choy.
What do you expect him to do?! You really can't venture out extremely far off of the root with this kind of music. that's Jesus, man. Doesn't count, too OP

I'm the best bass player ever, so suck it
Dafuq did I just read.
Steve Harris is the best bass player. don't forget that
Lol. You're ridiculous.
LOL are you blind?
Yea right dude. That guy is so over rated.
ha ha ha no. There is no "Best" bass player. I think Geezer Butler is the best, but that's just an opinion.
