- Don't worry, Erased or Boku dake ga Inai Machi, is an anime that I really realllyyyy like. The story was amazing, the opening song is a banger, it was just plagued by a rushed ending. Erased is an anime about changing the past and solving the mystery of 3 kidnappings.

Imma be honest, before covid, I wasnt really into anime. But, I was surrounded by friends who were. My first anime was this show, and I fell in love with it after the first episode.

Erased is my #1 favorite anime and always will be. 2015 my best friend passed away from suicide, we were both 12 at that time and im 20 now. The reason i love this anime so much is because it reminds me of her and i get emotional, cause i wish i could go back in time to prevent her from taking her own life, just how satoru prevented kayo and the 2 girls from getting murdered.

I liked it all the way through, didn't really have an issue with the pacing and I wasn't shipping Kayo and Satoru anyways bc he's still mentally an adult and that would be _weird._ Like yeah they were cute as friends, but he didn't seek her out because he liked her, he wanted to save her life. He wanted her to live and she did. What she did with the life he saved was always up to her. And yeah, Hiromi was a bit of a weird choice, but again, we missed 15 years. It is totally possible that they met up again when Satoru fell into his coma and that chemistry happened over the years. Sucks that we didn't get to see it, but the anime didn't get enough time to show us.
Yeah, I wanted Satoru × Kayo but it is what it is. We shouldn't call him an,, unloyal bitch " because Hiromi is probably her first boyfriend that became her husband and Satoru is 100% the second most important person in her life ( the first ones would be her family)
Weird? I think it's less weird then 29 year old and 17 year old as hinted at the end. Even when she was safe he still chased after her car and there was still more romantic development between her over Airi. Most wtf thing I ever saw.

Accept for the time they were cuddling in the car, and the time they ate dinner breakfast together, AND THE TIME HIS FRIENDS POINTED OUT THE IDEA THAT HE HAD A THING FOR HER AND HE BLUSHED AND TOLD THEM TO BE QUIET which is a very old trope for when some one has a crush on a person. This end is shit for three main reasons.
1: it comes off as lazy shock factor, BET YOU DIDNT THINK SHE WOULD HAVE A KID, and then gives very brief and very little explanation to it, you can tell because the story would be almost the exact same if that scene was revealed after or before the killer was caught, or not at all.
2: The show very obviously displays them as potential love interests, they even point it out in the show in 2 major key scenes(both I referenced in the beginning)
3: while it logically makes sense that she wouldn’t wait for him for that long, THIS SHOW IS LITERALLY BUILT ON TIME TRAVELING, and how shitty do you gotta be to walk up to the dude who obv has feelings for you, everyone in the friend group knew that, and show him you had a child with one of his BEST FRIENDS.
The ending was shit and a lot of times people who defend it seem to ignore that fact that just because something isn’t realistic doesn’t mean it’s bad, this is a story and in story’s like this one it has 2 main goals, 1 build and establish bonds for you to click with on the story with our main characters, and 2 explain the narrative of the story and progress the world in a meaningful and tightly nit way. that scene while in a realistic sense makes more sense completely cock blocks the expectations the story built for them to be together. So the only real reason I could think as to why he would make this is simple, shock value, it’s not unheard of for the manga company’s to force shit like this into shows, and I can’t think of how this was a good move on any other part, and the write is a VERY good one and this show and many of the other ones he had co written on are pretty ok. SO STOP SAYING THAT ITS OK FOR THEM TO DO THIS TO MA BOY.
P.s. - I was originally ok with the ending and even defended alot when I was younger and I can safely say that one of the biggest reasons I did that was because I wanted to be the “down to earth guy” ya know? Not saying that you or everyone here is but it’s very common for teens and young adults to play devils advocate, it’s a way with coping about our lack of difference, the same way people would go goth for the clout or trans or gay or what ever the “anti” trend is at that point in time. And while not every who follows those trends are only doing it for the trend a lot of those people who do, are, and sometimes someone who is loyal to that anxt whole hop on that train for the ideal of finding somewhere to stop being a nameless face and they find or like it so much they don’t stop.

I always assumed he had some sort of handicap.
This all happened in a small town in the late 80's, right? I figured people knew Yuuki because of his dad's business and let him be in an "everybody knows everybody" sort of deal. I have a brother who is 10 years older than me and I'd hang out with him and his friends sometimes. Still do occasionally when they get together for D&D. And in the show it was the 80's, kids still roamed around the neighborhood wild and free in the 80's. People were less inclined to jump to the worst conclusion back then.

Erased is honestly my favorite anime I’ve ever watched. I felt like the pacing, characters, conflict, everything was so amazing. I even watched this twice and had the same fulfillment in watching the anime. It was so amazing and I would watch this anime over and over again

I recently watched the anime and then read the Manga and both of them were almost perfect until the ending. It would have been prefect if the ending was just a little bit better. But overall, I really loved the Manga and the anime was heavenly

Erased was awesome but I cannot explain why my brain cannot accept that ending. Both girls are SSS tier in every aspect but for some reason it hurts so bad to not see him with Kayo. I never really felt like this about any other story, maybe because I don’t care for the characters on those other stories but in here it’s different and it hits different. Absolutely fantastic anime but that ending makes me feel hella empty regardless.

Also isn't Pizza girl younger than him while Kayo is his age in the present? Its not even grooming as they spent the rest of their childhood away to come back in the end. I get it some people like a good sacrifice for the greater good but maybe if the Author didn't build Kayo like a romance route during the time travel just to snatch it away with the most infuriating yet genius plot twist I could've accepted the ending we got more. But life isn't about me, I didn't like what we got but that doesn't make the show bad. Learn to accept other opinions.

Everything was great including pacing up until the last 2 episodes. I just felt those could've been fleshed out more.
The pacing is more the companies fault for the deadline and 12 episode anime being common but seeing pizza girl made the ending great to me. It should’ve been stretched a bit longer but I’m still happy with how it ended

This was a pretty good anime until the ending, ending made it “mid”. But yea, opening was amazing. It kind of reminds me of zankyou no terror ( I think it has the best sound track)

I loved the ending. Kayo was only 11 and shouldn't be expected to have always waited for Satoru. Also, it's cool that she ended up with Hiromi because both weren't supposed to be alive. Satoru got to meet with Airi, whom he never should have met after everything was said and done. The last conversation with Yashiro and Satoru was almost scarily accurate to real-life serial killers' ideas and thought processes. Trust me, listen to their tapes once they were caught, and then you'll get what I mean. I lot of people also complain about the obvious killer being Yashiro, but I didn't think it really was. It was a strange mix of "well, he cares for the kids" and "couldn't he have called CPS?" But the audience and Satoru both were fooled by it because CPS shows up, trying to null any suspicions about Yashiro. Even Yashiro's eyes change from black/brown to pink during the show, keeping people from second-guessing. It was a phenomenal and complete ending.
I had no suspicions with Yashiro, I believed him when he said the candy in the glove compartment helped him "quit smoking", heck I even called him a Chad Dad. People who predicted it must have anime injected into their veins, no one in their right mind would believe the hot school teacher was the bad guy.

I still don’t get why Satoru went inside of the car with Yashiro because he thought that Misato had been kidnapped. Like wasn’t he waiting outside the restroom for her the whole time?? If he didn’t see her leave why would he follow yashiro to look for her, it’s kinda dumb to me. Or maybe he just wasn’t paying attention the whole time, idk, that just really didn’t make sense to me.
Finaly a sane person. Too many people are obsessed with the nonsensical ship, ignoring the themes of the story itself.

There's a thing called moving on. If someone close to you dies do you just keep crying forever? Of course not, you cry and move on. I'm sure Kayo liked Satoru but she couldn't just wait for him to wake up, not knowing he'll even do so. The ending was justified but it was still bad.
Tbh the ending makes sense though neither of them were supposed to live so in the end they were shipped together so that in the end things can go as planned so that Satrou can meet airi in the end restoring balance

Throughout the whole time i was watching i was almost sure Satoru was the killer.
It would've been a much better plot twist, it had the right hints, the scene where he almost pushed Kayo's mother down the stairs and his eyes turned red like the killer's, the story he told Airi about his manga and how he wanted to do good but ended up doing bad due to events he couldn't prevent...
They could've made him the killer going back and forth in time trying to prevent bad things from happening but end up making bad decisions in the process

Airi would've been a lovable character for Satoro if the anime stopped shipping both Kayo and Satoro and instead stuck on the friendzone as a different approach.
Not only that, I also wished that Airi could've been a bit more relevant or a major part of the story or how Satoro "saved" Airi from an accident or into a darker path.

What WE WANT is quite different from what they really want. Actually, it’s not just a romantic story but more beautiful one.
One thing I want to say about the whole Satoru going into the teachers car is that he wanted to belaivr and trust him and I get it he was a really likable charcter and he guided him and helped him trhouout the way even helping him save kayo which really relaived me of most suspicions that he was the murderer even though I pretty much knew he was from like ep 2 not to mention he was like a father figure to satoru
Ives skip the anime for 3 years straight and I finally gave it a watch today, I honestly have to agree with your conclusion about the anime the pacing at the end was too fast

Even before episode 10 already were hiccups in the plot, like the scene of Kayo's mother with the granny, the little screen time with the other targeted kids, that last girl that see to have a huge build up (to kill herself maybe?) and nothing happened because the show ended so suddenly.
And i think Pizza girl should have been like a little sister to the main character in the present, i would've love if he ended with Kayo after resolving the culprit of the murders in 1988 and having a bounce back to 2006 self learning what were the results of changing times, and meeting with a single older Kayo in the last scene.
for me the large problem with this anime comes from the character interactions and mainly revolves around age. The amount of stupid nonsense the main character does as a 29 year old man is weird, it feels like he should be smarter. Kenya is also way older than his age (keep in mind he’s 11). The 29 year old man in an 11 year old body having romantic moments with an 11 year old is really weird too. Also the ending hints at a relationship between pizza girl and main guy but she’s 21 and he’s 33 in that time which also feels wrong. Overall there was a lot of weirdness in this anime for a story that felt forced filled with incompetence and illogical solutions.

So from what I understand the reason people didn't like the ending is because they're romance degenerates and their ship didn't work out and also because people read the manga and the ending was faster paced than it... To me the ending logically made complete sense so it was fine with me, I guess that just means I care about understanding how an event happened and couldn't care any less about ships... Man this is confusing, I expected completely positive reviews about this anime.

Kayo doesn't deserve to live, neither do the other 2 kids and Satoru's mother.
Yeah I see that it ended a little too quickly, but I feel like they ended it as well as they could have with the time contraint. I would even say that the ending was great! Now excuse me while I copy and paste my comment from another video:
Just watched the show for the first time and was nervously waiting for that bad ending I heard about... That moment never came.
Kayo and Satoru didn't need to get together (he always gets the short end of the stick after revival right?). 15 years passed and things happen. Hiromi and Kayo had all that time together and probably bonded because of Satoru's sacrifice.
Also, animal cruelty at a young age is a sign of a psychopath so the killer's motives made enough sense. It was a Joker and Batman situation (they fill the void in each other) and Joker didn't need a full backstory did he? The manga giving him a more in-depth backstory and making him out to be a sociopath is great, but the anime portrayal still works really well in my opinion.
About the killer being obvious: I felt just like Satoru at the reveal (being competent doesn't mean perfect). He gave so many signs but I kept shrugging them off because he was so likable. I even noticed the "she's alive" line (instead of "she's safe") and the candy thing, but I shrugged those off too. I know other people were disappointed, but that reveal was perfect for me!
You don't have to be THE BOYFRIEND of someone to save her. They were friends. TRUE FRIENDS.
This is enough for being a reason for saving, even giving your life for her.
Gladly, all the friends were together the end, that's really what I wanted.
And yes, Airi was not a character who you could just make "ERASED" from the future timeline.
i kinda wish the killer was actually yuuki. like satoru spent that whole time trying to clear yuuki's name and catch the 'real' killer, but he realised that he wasted his time and he was defending the killer the whole time

I've just finished watching Eraesd foe the second time and I actually like it Even more than the first time..and the ending was indeed fast but we got the revenge somehow so ya I like the twist it has..
Also kayo never ment to be his gf she was his childhood best friend so I'm not even upset let her be happy.

I just finished the anime, the overall anime is great I’d give it a 9/10. But the ending was good but could of been a bit better. It would of made more sense if Satoru and Kayo ended up together, like there’s TONS of scenes through out the show that heavily implies that the two had a special connection, not to mention the great lengths Satoru went for Kayo.
I get that waiting for someone for 15 years to wake up is a long time, I don’t blame Kayo, but I wish the creator made it so that they could still somehow be together. Like if Satoru could go back in time to avoid the 15 year coma, then him and Kayo would of most likely been together

Kei sanbe has made quite a few manga series like hohzuki island and cradle of monsters. He actually has two other series that got physical releases recently titled for the kid I saw in my dreams and island in a puddle. I'm glad more of his work got licensed after erased got popular. Maybe one day some of them will get anime as well.

At the end of the series they are in 2010 based on the school banner, so Airi who was 17 in 2006 is 21 so there's that.

Imo the very last episode was fumbling (supposedly due to the manga finishing at the same time). Every other episode was amazing for the reasons you gave. Imo, if you didn't have this sad ending you wouldn't walk away the same. After it's over, you grow to immensely respect the characters and the author for not selling out heroism for "and they lived happily ever after". Heroism choses the main characters as much as they chose it, and the man behind it all got NOTHING in return, not even knowing what he went through. He did what he did because he could not STAND the guilt had he not. If others move on or are even ungrateful (they are, thankfully), then in the end, he is satisfied. That first part speaks to me immensely: Some leaders are NOT content with the world, and will give everything to change something.
