Strong climbing Darren. I’m amazed that you can get up 30% climbs whilst seated! I guess as you’re filming it’s tricky to stand up. Well done fella. 👏💪
Thanks Steve, it all depends on the moment I suppose, sometimes I get out the saddle, sometimes I stay seated, particularly if I can spin comfortably. It certainly didn’t feel as easy as it looked. I did think It looked easy around that hairpin when I was editing it. I can assure you that it wasn’t.
Great vid. Speaking as a local to St.Agnes the next valley along from Blue Hills there is a climb called 'Rocky Lane' tarmaced of course but its harder :) Ive done alot of the climbs around Cornwall & the south coast area around Mevagissey especially 'Potters Punisher' (Strava name) is also pretty savage, some for next time maybe :)
Thank you, there are some quite testing climbs all along that coast. Further up into Devon I did some in a previous video, and to date, the stretch of hill out of Clovelly is the most ridiculous gradient I’ve seen with my own eyes. A friend of mine says he’s cycled along the coast from St Ives to Lands End and says it’s littered with 30% climbs and one of his favourite ever rides. So still plenty of Cornwall to explore.
Spent a lot of time in St Mawes as a kid, only ever walked up Grove hill, although I image tough on a bike, did you ride around the Castle, stunning views, love Cornwall, thanks for sharing 👍 😀
Thanks Bob, the steep part was pretty tough with the camera in my hand, but it was quite short, so not the worst I have done for sure. We didn’t have chance to look at the castle as we were pushed for time to get them all done. I had hoped to get nine done, but ran out of daylight. I’m going to have to go back for a proper Cornish ride later In the year for sure.
Nice 1 Dar, that’s some driving for those. Shame about StIves better climb out of Padstow! Or Port Isaac I could go on! Still it’s ticked off. Great climb to end on, I had to Street view it to see it for myself. Hats off to Deb sure you made it up to her. Cheers
Thanks Ade, we saw many climbs that were better than some of the official ones, but those are the ones on the app to tick off, and now they’re all done. I have just 9 left in the South West, which I can now hopefully complete this year. It’s getting harder now as a lot of the climbs are over 2hrs away from me and require a lot of driving to get to.
@@ade9685 it’s Simon Warren of 100 Climbs books. He definitely climbs and is a lot faster than me. I’d love to ask him how he picks the climbs. www.100climbs.co.uk
Thanks Lewis, the fitness is coming along, and the climbing is getting easier. Which just as well as my two main events for the year are fast approaching!!
The worse one I’ve bee been down was Clovelly, I was laughing at how ridiculous it was and how far down I seemed to go. To date it’s still the steepest stretch of road I’ve come across.

Well done Darren great ride, all that climbing camera in one hand and a bad hip great job. Happy hill climbing, nice video as always 😁👍
Thanks Terry, climbing with the camera is the easy part, it’s pedalling up the steep bits that’s the hard part!! 😂
Well done Darren that's a great day of climbing💪🚴♂️,Luckett (Kit Hill)is one of my favourite climbs
Thanks Kevin, I can understand why, it’s a beauty!! Some nice views there at the top.
@@DarrenPhillips the worst climb I've seen in Cornwall is Polperro hill,i haven't tackled it yet on my bike, proper steep and long 🥵🚴♂️🙈
@@kevincastell2271 yes, it would have been the final climb had I have got there. It’s 114 Talland Hill on the list!

@@DarrenPhillips Interesting. Do you feed that back to the creator of the list? Seems he may not climb them himself

Top climbing Darren, think how you would fly up these hills without all that kit weighing you down!!
Thanks Lewis, the fitness is coming along, and the climbing is getting easier. Which just as well as my two main events for the year are fast approaching!!
A Cornish local once said to me that wherever you're going in Cornwall it always "takes about an hour" 😂
Based on my extensive scientific research, I’d agree!! 😂
There is nothing more demoralising than cycling down a steep hill knowing damn well you have to turn around at the bottom and cycle back up!!!!

@@DarrenPhillips Have you cycled up the Lecht or have any intentions of doing so? It’s a beaut climb.
@@spikedickey5703 at some point, yes, as it is number 66 on the official 100 climbs list.
