couple of things that fall short are :
1 when you split a vid then maybe you want to trim 2 seconds from 1 of the splited part, the editor still shows its still a full vid.
2 its hard to pinpoint where you are in the vid while trimming it. Because the numbers beside the slider shows where the vid starts and where the vid ends. moreover its hard to trim cus you cant just cut a vid on where you are, you need to move the edge of the vid marker and as far as i know you cant just move the marker to the dot that shows where you currently are. In fact! the dot moves if you move your marker beyond the dot

One thing to note; Videos can also be trimmed from inside the Windows "Photos" app, but it has a lot fewer functions. Make sure you are actually inside the VIDEO EDITOR to get all the the functions shown in this video. Type in Video from the Start Menu to make sure you get the right one, as shown at 1:13

To those of you who are just recognizing this , Yes . Microsoft has added the video editor to its' photos app on Windows 10 as of 2017 ( 2 and a half years ago ) .
Remember the talk about Story Remix ? Well , here you go . This started off in testing under the name of Windows Story Remix and when it got released
in 2017 with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update ( version 1709 ) it came out as Microsoft Photos Video Editor after it got released to the public
in 2017 as part of an update to Windows 10 and the Microsoft Photos itself .
It started off connecting to Microsoft Remix 3D but that is going away on January 10th , 2020 and they are having
people who have used an app called Paint 3D for that to download their work
from Remix 3D before that date when everything will be deleted .
However , now that it is no longer reliant on Remix 3D anymore it has improved
a good ways since they took off the connection to Remix 3D because they have in
effect made the video editor more usable offline than it was . However there
are still things that are still missing in Microsoft Photos Video Editor that
was once available in the last and discontinued Windows Movie Maker and yes I
was bummed as well when Microsoft chose to do away with Windows Movie Maker
because of the things like timeline and fading transitions , making credit
crawls and speeding up and slowing down scenes so please keep your free or paid
video editors because they can be a good companion to Microsoft Photos Video
Editor, just as Apple's Final Cut Pro X is and has become the companion to
Apple's iMovie on Apple's MacOS because still not everything that was in
Windows Movie Maker has made it to Microsoft Photos Video Editor yet but let's
speak our needs to Microsoft and who knows what improvements we will see in the
    future .
However , remember when I said that it is easier for me to use offline now ?
Well now I have more choice as to where I want to save
and export my videos to I have more choice as to where I want to save and
export my videos to as in my video projects can be exported and saved to my
external storage drive(s) versus where it only exported and saved my video
projects to my pc when it used to be connected to Remix 3D .
So , Microsoft Photos Video Editor is improving and maybe one day it may
improve to where it over ride the things in what was Windows Movie Maker .

Hello, thank you for the video. I have a couple questions: How do you remove seconds here and there from a, say, 5 minute film that you upload to your project? Do you have to 'split' and continue splitting, and editing the pieces out that you don't want?
Second question: how do you compress the size of the final product - do you use an open source compressor to make it small enough to say, for example, share on an online message platform? Are my questions on the level, or am I wasting your time?

I tried the Windows 10 for the first time last night before watching your video and I really liked it until I got stuck on the background music. I didn't have any audio on my computer to add to "custom audio" so I'm glad you showed that option. When choosing the Windows background music, it plays during the whole series of video. Unfortunately I didn't see an option to start playing it at a spot I would have wanted like it is shown in the "Custom Audio" option.

My search continues because, although this is an alternative to Movie Maker, it is not necessarily a better one. I still use Movie Maker to edit my TH-cam videos, but I am interested in a more feature robust alternative that is not terribly complicated. Although there are some enhanced features in this new editor, IMO they are NOT even close to sufficient to justify a change. For example: 1. I don't understand how to select a starting point within a music track and then align it with the duration of an image or clip (i.e. 5 seconds of music for 5 seconds duration). This is one of the great Movie Maker features that is simple and straightforward. 2. Movie Maker allows you to save video in 1920x1080. If this editor allowed you to save videos in 4k, that would be an upgrade worth serious consideration, but it's the same as Movie Maker. 3. This editor does not have a feature that allows picture in picture or split screen videos, meaning being able to insert an Instagram live clip, for example, that viewers can watch in one box and still see you in the other like many do in music reaction videos (hope that makes sense). That functionality is what I want most so if this new editor does not have why change? Thanks for the video, but I will stick to my tried and true for now.

I am trying to learn how to add narration to video (voice over), add my own graphic, and the hardest is taking for example a 15 min video and taking off first 5 minutes, keeping three minutes, then taking off four minutes and keeping two, etc and ending up with one seemless video that has the un-needed scenes taken out.

For me someone who hates editing but likes making youtube videos this really helped out. Especially coming across an easy to use editor I already have. Microsoft gets a lot of flack for how they treat their own product but they did right with the video editor. The only thing I had to purchase was another codex to convert my videos. Thanks a lot for the video, I learned quite a bit.

Thank you for your video! Do you know how long the Photo App will allow for time duration of a video? 3 minutes, 5 minutes, more?

I just happened across this video. I'm brand new to learning video editing and someone told me about Windows Movie Maker. Which is better/easier for a newbie to learn? Movie Maker or Video Editor? I did purchase Movie Maker Pro as well.

I am using the old Live Windows Movie Maker. Is there a function in there whereby I can insert an image (e.g. of a movie star or DVD cover) in the frames alongside my own image as I talk about the pictured celebrity or movie? Is this process called overlay or superimposition?

I split my video and placed a photo in the split. I wanted the audio form the video to keep playing whilst he photo was on screen but the audio paused and carried on again when the video started after the photo had transitioned - so after the split. I want to to place cutaway photo like in iMovie so it is in effect placed over the video (with the video 'behind' the image) . Any ideas

I have a question. If I were to use the default background music provided by the windows 10 video editor, can I trim it for where I want it to play in the video? Can you only trim music if it's your own music file you're importing? If you could please clarify, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

Thank you so much! I'm studying a physcial education, but with the lockdown and all we're getting some pretty creative homework. Only problem is they haven't taught us anything about making/editing videos and whatnot, as it's not part of our normal education. This really helped me out in this weird situation we're in.

u can't sadly, I use this to edit all my videos and there is sadly no way of picture on picture unless u were to go into a drawing app, insert 2 pics on top of each other and then insert them into there, but I'm guessing that's not what u want

Thanks for the great pointers and efficient delivery of info and especially for a nice quiet background instead of talking over music. Found your video when I searched for help finding my test project using Win10 video editor for the first time. After watching your video, I figured out what I did: forgot to "export" my test project, which seems to be the same as "saving" the work, and could not find it on my pc. Good info. Looks like it will be easy to work with. Thank you.

Great video. I have one question. How do I cut out parts in the middle of my videos? I do kayak fishing and I want to cut out several parts of my video. When I use the trim tool it cuts out the beginning and the end.

    • @epacrisimp
      @epacrisimp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

There are two ways to do this. One way is to use the Trim tool and trim to a part you want to keep and then you can drag another copy of that clip onto the timeline and trim to another part of the video that you want to keep etc... Another way is to use the Split tool and drag the timeline indicator in the Split panel to the point of the clip that you want to remove and click Done. This creates two clips on your Timeline. Then choose the second clip and use the Trim tool to trim out the bit you don't want. I hope that helps and let me know if your cannot follow my instructions.
