  • On The Force of Nonviolence: An Ethico-Political Bind (2020). Hear more of this podcast at partiallyexaminedlife.com.
What is it to be nonviolent in political activity? Most ethics allow for self-defense, but Judith has a problem with defining "self" as well as "violence," and offers a full critique of the individualism that underlies typical Western approaches to both ethics and politics.
Mark, Seth, and Wes interview Judith about these issues and the connection to Gender Trouble.
End song: "Dancing with Death," discussed on Nakedly Examined Music #111 with Marty Willson-Piper.

An interesting discussion that can be summarized as Judith Butler’s new argument on the classic “Us” v. “Them” debate in relation to non-violence as a social behavior and the concept of Grievance as a social example of this behavior.

It would be interesting to ask a couple of psychoanalysts to comment on contemporary political /public discourse as Butler remarks around 41'. The subsequent comments on gender also.. well wow! Great podcast! Thank you.

Hate to shill. But I will be doing a phil/philosophy-of-film channel soon. I have just done Quine. I will a few Kubrick eps and then get to Zizek. Is there a particular part of Zizek - his work on film, theory, Lenin, etc. you want covered or looked at? Thanks.
